The Kau (a homophone for cow) is a cow-like Neopet. They roam Neopia in herds looking for pastures to play in and graze. Kaus have cloven hooves and horns, but don't appear to have udders.
Kaus seem to have a penchant for magic - Kalandra and the Kau Fortune Teller both use crystal balls to predict the future, and Kauvara is Neopia's foremost potion maker. They also love to sing - although they only know one note, "Moo!".
While Kaus can eat many foods, if they eat any milk item, like Kau Kau Farm Milk, their hit points are fully restored. In the Neopets Trading Card Game, they are associated with the element of earth.
Battledome
In the Battledome, Kaus take 10% less damage from all elements - Air, Earth, Fire, Light, Physical, and Water. They also have three species abilities:
- Kau Charge - Attack: 1 - 2 x Physical; Defence: none; available from level 2;
- Kau Kick - Attack: 2 x Earth; Defence: none; available from level 14;
- Kau Restore - Attack: none; Defence: 1 - 2 x Fire; gives 1 - 3 Lime Elixirs, available from level 20.
There are also fifteen pieces of equipment that can only be used by a Kau.
Old designs
The Kau was first introduced at the site's founding as the Macy Gray, based on the singer of the same name but armed with a ray gun. It was replaced with the bovine-like Kau on 26 July 2000 "for legal reasons".
