A Quiet Christmas

Written by: Lillie

In many countries, Christmas Day is a public holiday. Not everyone celebrates it though, and not everyone has something to do on Christmas Day. If you're spending Christmas at home with not very much to do, why don't you try out some of these ideas?

Chocolatey Drinks

It's easy to buy a packet of ready-mix hot chocolate or a tin of cocoa. Nothing is better than a mug of hot, steaming chocolate on a cold winter's day. All you need to do is shiver with the cold, prepare a drink, and sip it. Mmm, comfort.

If you're living in an area that has warm weather, make cold chocolate or cocoa! Cold cocoa is one of my favourite drinks. How do you make that, though?

Simple. All you need to do is follow the instructions on the hot chocolate packet or cocoa tin (whatever you've got). Only when they tell you to add so and so much hot water, you add a tiny bit. Let me illustrate with how I make mine:

  1. I mix a teaspoon of cocoa and two teaspoons of sugar in my cup, as following directions.
  2. The tin tells me to add a cup of hot water. I add a little bit, only enough to cover the mixture. I stir it and allow it to dissolve.
  3. When I'm quite sure it's dissolved, I take a cup of cold milk and pour it in. (I can add a cup of cold water if I wanted to, but I like milk. It's a personal choice - you can do either.)
  4. Stir it a little bit and then drink.

As you can see, all you need to do is follow the instructions up to a point and then just change the amount of hot water you add.

Curl Up with a Book

What could possibly be better than curling up on your favourite chair or sofa, and reading a good winter or Christmas book? If you haven't got a suitable one lying around, you can borrow from a library (if they're open), go online or just read another kind of book.

Watch a Wintry Movie

Chances are there will be a movie showing on your TV that has a Christmas or winter's theme. If not, rent a movie or rummage up old movies you've got. Recline on the couch and lounge around - movies can be delicious.
