Letters to Santa: Billy
Written by: Lillie
Dear Santa Claus,
I haven't written to you in a while 'cause I grew up a bit and I didn't believe in you and they said I was big. But now I'm a bit like a child again so I'll be able to send this to you. They say that Santa only gives to the little children. They tell me I'm a big boy now, especially now. Why especially now? I dunno. But Santa, couldn't you at least please pretend I was a little boy again? Just once, this year? I promise I'll never do it again if you'll give me my present this year.
I don't mean to sound like I'm bargaining with you, but I really really do want this present. I think I've been a good boy this year. I've tried, really I have. And it's been so hard, Santa, to be good. Maybe ... do you think that maybe I've been good enough to have this present? I've done my very best to be good and not to argue. I've helped round the house and done my homework and tried to keep up in school. I listen to what Daddy says and look after my baby sister best as I can when Aunt Martha's busy.
See, Mamma died three Christmasses before we got to have a Family Dinner. Mamma and Daddy were working so hard all that year and I never gots to have a dinner with the whole family. I was a bad boy that year. I think that's why Mamma went to have Christmas with God 'cause I was bad. She didn't like me being bad and I'm so sorry. I wish I was gooder 'cause then Mamma would've stayed and we'd be here together.
But Mamma left to heaven and she didn't have dinner. I've been a good good boy this year, so maybe she'll be happy and come back this year?
I want to have a Family Dinner where we all sit down and eat yummy stuff. We always have yummy food but I eat it all alone and I don't like being alone. When Daddy comes home he just eats and then works again. We don't talk that much. Aunt Martha's always busy with Baby and it's all quiet. When I was real little, Mamma and Daddy would talk and laugh and joke with us. Talking about work is okay 'cause I understands that they need to earn money, but they only talked about work to each other that year. They never talked that much to me. I didn't complain though, so that's good, right?
Santa, for Christmas this year I would like you to bring me my Mamma and a Family Dinner where we can all sit down, eat and talk happy and have fun. Aunt Martha can join us I s'pose. Christmas is a time of family and sharing, right?
So please Santa, I've been extra specially good, so maybe you'll give me this present this year? That's all I want, Santa. Mamma and a Family Dinner. Maybe they won't fit down the chimney or under the Christmas tree, but I'm sure you'll find a way.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Billy Brown
