Band Aid 20

Written by: Ixistant

In the year 1985, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure saw a report on the TV that there was a humanitarian crisis raging on the other side of the world. Both being talented, caring musicians, they decided to help the people who were starving by creating a song which all the proceeds would go towards helping them. That song was called "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and it was a no.1 hit. Now, 20 years later, another humanitarian crisis is happening in Sudan, and both Midge Ure and Sir Bob Geldof are helping. They have formed Band Aid 20, which consists of the cream of the british music crop. They recorded their own version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?", and in this article, I'll be telling you my opinion on the new single.

Well, the obvious question would be "Is It Any Good?" Well, to be quite honest, I don't even know. It is definitely different from the 1985 version of the song, considering this version has a mini rap in the middle of it, it's slower than the original and it has more female artists than the original. This song has divided the musical community, half saying "S'alright" and the other half saying "IT'S RUBBISH!" but I myself am neither. I think the song is OK but I don't like the rap in the middle. But one radio station disliked this song so much that it banned it from it's radio station! Another thing is that Dido has a part in it and I'm sure that she only sings about three vowels in her part. The rock band The Darkness were also involved and they do a terrific job on the guitars.

Although this song is all in the name of charity, there is a bit of controversy involving the song and the singer Rachel Stevens as she turned up to the recording uninvited to an invite only recording. Now, you would think she would have been refused entry, but she was allowed in and allowed to sing in the chorus as they were all too embarrassed to tell "You're not invited so sling your hook". This has upset many artists who weren't invited to the recording and some people have even gone as far as to say they won't buy the single!

OK. So, I'm presuming you will all want to know whether to buy it or not? Well, I wouldn't buy the song if it was just an ordinary song, but since it's for a good cause, I suggest we all go out and buy a copy, so we can help make the world a better place. And Once we've hanged this world for the better, we can move onto mars, then Jupiter and Saturn, until the whole solar system is a big place of love!!!! Erm, yea, just buy the single.
Feed the world! Let them know it's Christmas time! Feed the world! Let them know it's christmas time!
