Neoquest II: The IV

Written by: Xil

As many of you know (probably not), despite my constant load of work for school and enjoyable 'job' I still manage to make my way onto Neopets enough to keep up with current events. One of the things I do in my spare time is Neoquest. I've played Neoquest I through several times (5, in fact), and each time has been more enjoyable than the last. However, recently I've decided to go and attempt to complete Neoquest II for a fourth time. After Insane was completed, I was rather bitter and took some time off. But now I'm back and even more bitter! Grand, eh?

The question I'd like to pose is simple: why does Neoquest II have absolutely no 'replayability' after Insane?

Firstly, we come to hate the fact that it's consumed such a large chunk of your life. There's so many other things we could be doing! Like restocking, or reading, or baking me a cake. For as enjoyable as the rewards are, once you've got them all it's a tad less of a challenge and a lot more of clicking a mouse. We also start getting angry at the sheer amount of inaccuracies--is Rohane a white Blumaroo or yellow? Where are Mipsy's shoes? Is Velm really that useless? Alas, despite our constant questioning, sheer discontent and pure absolute hatred for any four-set of enemies who may come our way, we continue playing.

What keeps us there? Well, besides the NP, glory, and trophies...it is kind of fun. I may get incredibly bored and fall asleep every time I make it to the Lost Desert, but we all know and remember that familiar feeling when you see you've found a new weapon, or forgotten to use old Level Points and find you have 4 or 5 to spare. I have, for every March break for the past three years, played through a game of Neoquest, and I’m proud to say this year will be no different!

But still, why do we cringe when we feel the urge to play this game through again? The replayability, is in fact, in the game itself! Shockingly enough, neither NQI or NQII are very long games, it just takes commitment, a steady internet connection, and a lot of coffee. So next time you see you have no dates for the next week, your homework is all done, and you're bored out of your mind...turn on your screen, flip to Neopets, and remember how useless Celestial Hammer really is!
