The Neopets Mini Pals toys were handheld electronic games produced in 2009 by JAKKS Pacific, with gameplay similar to the Tamagotchi: play with, feed, and care for a Neopet on a daily basis on a device small enough to fit in a pocket. Each Mini Pals unit was star-shaped and came with a virtual prize code in the package. An additional 5-character prize code could be unlocked by playing with the Neopet until it reached Level 50.

Overview[edit]

Each Mini Pals toy featured a single Neopet in a streamlined version of Neopia.

A Neopet needs periodic food and entertainment. It will automatically go to sleep at 10 pm and wake up at 6 am. The Neopet will not do anything during its sleep time.

Games[edit]

JubJub Dodge

The Neopet must dodge falling JubJubs. The game ends after three JubJubs hit the Neopet on the head OR the Neopet successfully dodges 250 JubJubs. Neopoints and experience are awarded 1:1 depending on how many JubJubs were successfully dodged, for a maximum of 250 NP/250 XP.

Last Stand

This is basically a game of Nim, where the player and Neopet take turns removing 1, 2, or 3 black dots. The player wins if s/he removes the last black dot(s) on his/her turn. 100 Neopoints and 50 experience are awarded if the player wins. 50 NP and 25 XP are awarded if the player loses.

Strategy: Always try to leave a multiple of 4 dots remaining for the Neopet's turn. This ensures that the Neopet cannot be the one to remove the last dot(s).

Moon Rock, Scroll & Slorg Scissors

This is basically Rock, Paper, Scissors played best two out of three. Ties do not count. 50 Neopoints and 30 experience are awarded for winning. 25 NP and 15 XP are awarded for losing.

Item-O-Rama

An item will be shown before each round starts. The object is to press the + button when the item is shown again. 10 Neopoints and 10 experience are awarded per item successfully matched.

Fashion Fever

View the Neopet in outfits purchased from the store. For fun only. All wearable items for this game cost 500 NP in the store.

Inventory Access[edit]

This is where to feed your Neopet, give it a toy, or give it a Petpet. This is another place to view purchased outfits one at a time vs. scrolling through outfits in Fashion Fever, or view which trophies have been earned. Trophy view is also where to see the code after reaching Level 50.

Stats[edit]

This shows basic stats for the Neopet, such as name, hunger, happiness, level, Neopoints on hand, and experience.

Neopets Store[edit]

This is where to buy food, toys, and outfits. Four random items are buyable at any given time. The store gets new items in every so often.

Neo Lodge[edit]

For 1000 Neopoints, the Neo Lodge will keep a pet's hunger and happiness consistent, for instance, at night when the Neopet needs to sleep or for extended periods without play.

IR Mode[edit]

This is how two people with Mini Pals units can play games or exchange gifts. The units must be within four feet of each other to make a connection. To compete, both units must go into IR Mode at the same time and select the same game, either Last Stand or Moon Rock, Scroll & Slorg Scissors. To exchange gifts, the gifter must select Give Gift and the recipient must select Receive Gift.

Options[edit]

This is where to change settings like date/time, contrast, and sound. This is also where to reset the game if needed.

Levels[edit]

Level increases are based on experience, with more experience necessary to reach the next level as the Neopet becomes more experienced.

To advance to the next level from

  • Level 1 - 5: 100 XP
  • Level 6 - 10: 200 XP
  • Level 11 - 15: 300 XP
  • Level 16 - 20: 400 XP
  • Level 21 - 25: 500 XP
  • Level 25 - 30: 600 XP
  • Level 31 - 35: 700 XP
  • Level 36 - 40: 800 XP
  • Level 41 - 45: 900 XP
  • Level 46 - 50: 1000 XP

Level 50 is unlocked after earning 27400 XP, which also awards a 5-character prize code. This code is supposed to award a virtual representation of the Mini Pals unit, but it usually gives a different model; e.g., a Blue Scorchio Star Balloon with Screen for a Green Acara unit.

Interestingly, one of the possible prizes is a Blue Shoyru Star Balloon, which is not representative of any of the four Mini Pals released.
