This article is about the Neopets Mobile service from 2006 to 2009. For information about the upcoming mobile phone service, see Neopets App.

Neopets Mobile was a mobile phone application operating between 28 June 2006 and 30 June 2009. It was initially only available to American Cingular customers with a WAP-capable phone, with other providers (Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon) becoming available later. It allowed limited access to the Neopets website, and featured an exclusive location called Lutari Island. Subscription cost $2.99 per month, not including data rates charged by the telephone operator.

Since Neopets Mobile was discontinued, there has been no way to access Lutari Island: although it appears on the explore map, it has been continually battered by storms and has been unapproachable.

Features[edit]

Neopets Mobile allowed players to care for their Neopets through their phone. Playing done via Neopets Mobile was synced to the Neopets website when the user logged out of the Mobile application - this included acquired items and Neopets. If the user did not log out of the Mobile application properly before returning to the website, then this syncing did not occur, and they were reminded that they would lose the items in their inventory and those they acquired on their phone if they continued.

As well as caring for their existing Neopets, they could create new ones on their phone. This allowed them to create a Lutari, a Neopet not normally available via the website. Lutaris cannot be transferred to new owners, and will simply disappear if placed in the pound - this restriction was presumably to protect their rarity.

While unable to access most of the website on their phone, users of Neopets Mobile had exclusive access to Lutari Island, a tropical island that floats around Neopia's oceans. Several attractions were available here:

  • Bog of Charity - This was a Lutari Island equivalent of the Meridell Rubbish Dump, with items being 'donated' by non-player characters. One item could be taken per hour. The list of items available could be made to updated by changing one's active Neopet;
  • Briana's Quests - Resident Air Faerie Briana would sometimes give the player a Faerie Quest, giving feathers in return;
  • Fluorescent Pools - These could heal the player's Neopet, like the Healing Springs. They did not give out potions;
  • Island Market - This restocked primarily Lutari Island-exclusive items. Three items could be purchased from here per hour. Like the Bog of Charity, swapping active Neopets updated the list of items;
  • Island Gossip - A text-only New Features page;
  • Lutari Savings Bank - This branch of the National Neopian allowed the player to access their savings while on Neopets Mobile;
  • Survival Academy - A training school, courses were paid for in feathers. Training only occurred while Neopets Mobile was connected - logging off would suspend training;
  • Wheel of Happiness - This wheel could be spun every thirty minutes, costing 100 Neopoints. Possible prizes were 250 NP, 500 NP, 10,000 NP, feathers, healing a Neopet, or making a Neopet more happy. Possible penalties were having some Neopoints stolen, having half of the user's on-hand Neopoints stolen, having an item stolen, or a Neopet getting ill or hurt.

Two games were available to play, Blockstravaganza - a cross between Tetris and Sutek's Tomb - and Go Go Lutari! - similar to Turmac Roll.

Lutari Talisman[edit]

The Lutari Talisman.

The Lutari Talisman is a trophy shaped like a dream catcher that was added to every user's lookup with the release of Neopets Mobile. There are five different shapes of bead, each available in four different colours, that can be placed on it - these beads are items that can be bought or sold. They can be found through special Random Events. One type of bead - the tongi beads - could only be acquired by signing up for and referring people to Neopets Mobile. The different types of beads are called matu, oranu, ranaka, tongi, and urapa. They come in the colours blue, green, red and yellow.

The Talisman has a chance to increase Neopoint payout from games and lower the price shopkeepers offer when haggling with them. The more beads the player has collected and placed on their Talisman, the greater the probability of this happening.

Players can only view their own Talisman, even when they click on the Talisman on someone else's user lookup.
