They read the IP address for the maps. I am American, but I live and work in Korea. So instead of Movie Mountain on my map, I get this dumb MTV Asia building and Zazzle instead of 99 Dogs. When MTV Asia was advertising their 2006 awards in Bangkok, there was a very irritating banner that popped up in the top and side banners, and if you clicked on it, the page came up in Korean.

Pull up your Neopia Central shops and look at the source. Locate a line that reads similar to the following:
contentURL=http://images.neopets.com/maps/map1/map1_en_KR_12_3_48_2.swf
In mine, map 1 is in English and location is KR is for Korea. I am unsure what the trailing numbers are for. Before, I could change the KR to US, JP, and others and get that country's map, but they changed that with the trailing numbers.

There is also another line farther up with your user name, sex, DOB, and specified country embedded in it. Look for the line with template_username and you fill find it.

Anyway, being from England can be a bit annoying, especially when it appears that if you live in the US, then you already have an advantage:
- You can access 'Movie Mountain'
- You can get 'promotion codes' from buying products.
- You can get the Neopets game
- You've actually heard of some of the people mentioned in the sponsor games.

At the moment, I can accept it, but if it gets to the point where living in America gives you a huge advantage, it would be very unfair. I mean, if the Altador Plot relies on knowledge from the game, that would be very annoying to foreign players (me included in that), who could find it out from other people, but it would be a lot more satisfying if we were able to do stuff for ourselves.

Have a nice day! :) I'm not all horrible and grumpy!

Getting the game is not even much of an advantage in the US, since they released it for Playstation 2 only. I'm not about to go buy a new system for one game. So I feel your pain! (And as for knowing the people in the sponsor games, I'm 24, so I don't recognize the teeny-bopper people either!) Hmm, maybe I should just move to England!

Just use the link in the news.

I don't have Movie Mountain in the Plaza/Bazaar - as an Aussie or an honorary American. :)

Move to England? Why? The weather's terrible, and everything's really expensive, and released about a month after anything in the USA.

Although it is quite nice at the moment.

EDIT: No, sorry, it's raining. For a change.

Thanks! That was a great explanation...and eliminates one item on my "Random Things to Ponder" list... now, if only I could figure out why the lab ray hates my Mummy Baby, but looooves my Baby Fireball... o_O

I know that Neopets has had promotions/games before that were only offered in countries other than the US (Singapore, Australia and NZ come to mind). As far as I remember, this is the first one for the US. I could be wrong, but I don't remember anyone complaining about the unfairness of those promotions. We just changed our country in the user prefs or did without. Does anybody else remember anyone complaining about the unfairness of any other country-specific promotions/games? I think this would be a good time to add, "Life isn't fair. Deal with it." *lol* but we all know that anyway.

As far as I can recall, theres NEVER been a country specific event for the UK

Interesting buttwig, I guess I ought to have realized that there were other country only promotions, but I don't remember ever hearing about them. Thanks for mentioning it though, because it does make the whole thing more palatable.

I'm a US citizen living in Canada (hubby's Canadian). I have changed in my prefs to the state and zip I'm from, and am hoping that given how many fansites reccommend that, that it's not something that will get me frozen. 0:)

I need a zip code to change countries.I'm Canadian

You could also just do what I did. I put my state as NY, and googled for New York City zip codes.
