i hope i get to keep my duped items
i checked some guys auctions, then i went to his shop and found FSS, TT and h40000 helmet for 99k
i immediately went to my bank and got 99k, and in my excitement, i bought TT cause i always wanted that, and then i realised that i should have bought FSS

Hmm, wonder why they didn't dupe any Bony grarrl clubs.

Hopefully a freezing of the people responsible and a rollback to reinburse everyone else will happen soon. It's hardly fair for people that legitimately worked for a real version of a duped item to have bunches of copies out there.

Well. I was frozen for warning people about the duped items.
Imagine that.

How did
that happen?!

I went on the neoboards during all this to watch the confusion, and I saw a board with someone who was as clueless as ever on it. I started telling them what this was all about, and then I was logged out. And frozen.
I already emailed TNT.
Good luck to everyone else! Please, don't post -anything- on the neoboards for the next little while, take it from someone who knows.

what the...?
Anyway some people from different time zone may not have catch on yet. I saw people bidding up to millions for a duped item. How do i know it's duped? I noticed the seller releasing the same item one after the other ended...
Tue Jul 26, 2005 4:54 pm
Wow that's ...*can't think of a good word for it*
All I can say is I hope they do unfreeze you and everything gets sorted out.
Wonder if anyone else was frozen for
telling people about the duplication?

In order to duplicate an item, I believe you have to own it first. o.o
They must have saved up all their money from previous stuff and spent it all on expensive things, then duped those.

Could it be possible they found a way to duplicate np too? That seems like a lot of work that someone would put into to doing something like this. Think about the kind of items that were duped, G-bomb, FQD, and T-Tear among other things, that would take some massive np, and a heck of a long time. Then again, I think someone mentioned something about oldish accounts being the ones that mass-donated to the money tree. Still though, that’s some seriose cash they’d have to earn to buy only one each of the origanl duped items. I’m rather wondering how they got ahold of them…

Well, if you realize, the items they sold in the shops were priced for 99k. They had like 50 of them. That's 5 mill right there. They also used some of the fake items to trade for more expensive items, before anyone knew people were duping them.

No no, I was talking about how they got ahold of the origanl ones, the ones they managed to dup. They still had to actually have the item to dup it, correct? That means they had to buy it for some amount of np.

I just got online and all this is happening. All I can think of is that they are going to have to roll back the site. It won't effect me much, I haven't really done much over the last few days, except sell some stuff out of my SDB. As long as I get that stuff back, I can just resell it again. I just hope they don't have any glitches with the rollback. I mean, I guess something weird could happen, and people could lose money or pets. And well I guess that would happen anyway, if you adopted a pet in the last few days, it might be gone or back in someone else's account. That would make people mad. But then some people were probably trying to transfer a pet in the last few days, lost it, and they would probably get it back, and that would make them happy.
Anyway, there are so many duped items out there, that I don't know what they are doing about it. Are they going in one by one and deleting them? That would take a long time. I still say a rollback is easier, though not as popular.

digital_anime_fan_20, I know that if I were doing something like this, here's how it would go:
I'd restock, like a normal player. Note that a lot of the accounts donating to the money tree were older, so they probably had some accumulated wealth.
Then I (and my friends as well) would start really unloading most of our goods, and use our massed wealth to purchase products that we intend to dupe.
Then start duping the items and putting them out there. As they sell, you can buy more and different items to dupe, and then keep the chain rolling. It eventually becomes a snowball that's almost impossible to stop, because the only cost outlay you had was the initial one, and after that everything is free money.
My guess is that this was a coordinated, team effort by a few players who were sick of neopets, or wanted to make a point, or just wanted to mess with the staff. In cases of mass scamming of any game, it's usually one of those three.
EDIT: And duplicating NP wouldn't be hard. They probably just bought a few bags of broken neopoints, and duped them, since they go from item to cash directly, without selling them.
To clarify: I wasn't involved in this, and I have no idea how to dupe items. But the above is the most logical process.

Ya know, I hadn’t really thought about the broken bag of neopoints, but now that you mention it, those would be a good way of getting some quick np, especially if they could just dup them.
I agree, this was most likely a team effort, theres no easy way one person could have pulled this off on their own.
