Congratulations. Here begins the crushing debt that will dog you for the rest of your life!

Well, since you're stalking interested, it's Drury University in Springfield. I'm planning on studying teaching, with plans of teaching high school math. Luckily that means a huge number of scholarships, including a possibility of a full-ride from the state.

Congratulations!!
I am happy for you! Getting accepted now is fantastic! Do you still have 1 semester of HS to go? I had an "early" acceptance to my University of choice, too. It made my last semester of HS a true joy.

Ooh lucky you! It's a huge bugbear of mine that teaching qualifications are so expensive here, yet the government complain about a lack of people going into teaching...durr.

Teaching maths to teenagers, though? Masochist.

Welcome to the most expensive and dull four years of your life.

There's a 1/5 chance you'll be kicked out too!

YAY FOR UNIVERSITY.

Yeah, I owe the government $30,000 already.

FOR TWO SEMESTERS.

There's a reason I'm not going back to my current uni, and the $24,000 bill for next semester proves it. I'm thinking my plan of transferring and continuing to work while doing uni distance ed/part time is the smarter option.

Luckily I don't have to pay it back until after I'm earning over $41,000. Although, that means once I'm promoted to supervisor, I'm a bit screwed :P

That's lucky.

Here in Ontario, within the year you graduate from university, you're billed from the government for your loans.

That's not cool.

We can make voluntary payments, but most choose to wait until they have to. Basically, each year, the government sets the minimum income where you have to pay. It rises a little each year with inflation, but for the next couple of years I should be right. That said, I'm almost considering making some form of payment while I don't have huge debts :/

We have a six month grace period in Alberta, then the debt is laid down. I do think that people can apply to have the period extended, though, if they haven't found employment.

How have you racked up such a large bill, Alex? That's mind blowing :o

Combination of private uni (thus the fees are more expensive) and the way that the government aid for private unis is set up - not only are you subject to a 20% additional fee when you take out the loan, but it also goes up each year with the CPI - yay!

I got my bill for next year - I should scan it in some time. It was ... not pretty.

Yeah, I basically owe about £8000 each year, the fees are just over £3000 and the rest is the loan that's meant to pay my rent and bills and food and stuff.

Hilariously, my rent (before bills) is £4800 this year, and the loan was £4850. Wow, realistic...

A very belated but well meant congratulations!! So tell us... which college did you get accepted to and what will you be doing? (I scanned through the posts but couldn't find anything.)
