Worried.
Turns out we *did* have roof damage from Ike. We found this out Saturday when my husband was on the roof, cleaning the leaves out of the gutters. There was a "soft spot" on the roof - which is now a small concave dent. He checked in the attic, and some of the wood up there is soaked and molded. After trying to get in touch with *anyone* on Saturday (the best we managed was a "we *might* be able to have our scheduler call you back by Monday"), he is now at home trying to get *anyone* to come inspect it so that at least we can get it tarped, and prevent further damage to our house. Most of the major (reliable) companies can't even get someone to come *look* at it for 3-4 WEEKS.
3-4 WEEKS just to LOOK at it?!!?!

...yeah, by the way, it's raining right now, and supposed to rain all week. :(

That's horrible! Good luck getting it fixed :)

Our hurricane damage was mostly roof damage and leaks. A lot of our carpet was destroyed, so we're replacing it with wooden floors. We also had leaks in several dual-pane windows, although none of them were broken out.

The roofing contractor for the guy across the street (who had a tree fall on his house) showed up to start work on his house (thankfully, just like our neighbor said he would), and took a look at it. Looks like it's just the one spot that's damaged, and it is a quick fix - the major support beams hadn't rotted or anything, so they just need to clean it and put on some sealant stuff. Some of the wood directly below the shingles will need to be replaced, but apparently they can actually do the whole bit of it today - for significantly less than our insurance deductible is. This means no insurance rates going up, either, which is great, cause they think that the leak might have been going on for a couple of years, and that Ike just made it worse. :o

The guy even apologized to my husband for not being able to work straight through lunch (it started pouring) to finish the job.
Yeah for good roofing people! :)

Dumfounded. How the heck do I keep pulling this stuff off? I thought I for sure failed my Physiology midterm (I got fed up 20 minutes before the exam was over, and just put "C" for the questions I didn't know the answer to). Turns out I didn't, and I was only 6% below the class average. How do I do this?

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to break up with her in a week. Which makes me feel like a jerk, but I think it's going to have to be done.

Now slightly less flabbergasted, and more "Aww yeah!"
I got nominated for an Irene Ryan Scholarship, which is a big-deal theatre scholarship, but like 500 people get nominated each year, and I'm not expecting to make it past the first round of auditions. However, this does mean I and the other nominees (and our scene partners, whom we get to choose) get to take a week off school to go to North Carolina for a theatre festival, where--apart from five nerve-wracking minutes auditioning for the scholarship--we get to choose what plays we see, what workshops we attend, and how much time we want to spend hanging out. Bonus: our lodging is paid for by our college, and our teachers HAVE to let us make up any missed assignments without penalty. Score!

^ Congrats on the nomination, Mongrel. And an even bigger congrats for the opportunity to skip out on school with no consequences. Teenagers everywhere are jealous.

I'm soooo frustrated. Why is it so hard to research pancreatic enzyme therapy? I'm pretty sure it's been around for a long time, so why are there no articles on this. GAHHH!

It's karma. I only missed two days for mono when I got it my first semester in college, because many of my teachers would only excuse two days, even with doctor's notes.
Good luck with your pancreatic enzyme therapy research. I have no idea what that is, but it sounds daunting.

Awful. I'm just wiped out -- and have been for several days now. I don't have time to be sick! I skipped 3 classes today (that's where I should be right now).

^Mongrel, congrats on the nomination. Are you going to Asheville, by any chance? I know they're huge on the arts there.
^^Regan, I put "pancreatic enzyme therapy" as a keyword in Medline and got 66 articles (I was actually researching zoonotic viruses and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for a project). Maybe if you tried putting in specific enzymes, you might get more results? Or you could always look at the references of your references to get more articles.

I have found that Northwestern University is really awesome, has a beautiful campus, and is close to my home! If I get enough money, I can still live on campus, but be close enough to hang out with my underclass friends and go home when I need stuff. This college search just got easier.

Tired, but somewhat more relieved. The roof is fixed, and there has been plenty of pouring rain today to prove that it's fixed well. :)
