I'm not sure if this has already been posted, but I thought I'd start a new topic just in case...

From the Neopian Times Editorial:

Quote:
Here's a burning question for you... Why do male Usuls have a bow on their tails? And it is a big fluffy girl's bow. I just noticed that when my green Chia was turned into a green Usul. - Al_cranan
When we designed the first Neopets we didnt differentiate between male and female. This may be something we do in the way distant future, but for now some Neopets do look more male or female than neutral.

Honestly, I think this is a pretty good idea... on the surface.

However, when you think about it, it technically means twice the work. Instead of having to draw the poses for one pet, you have to draw them for two - one for the male, one for the female.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a male-looking Blue Usul and a female-looking Red Graarl, along with a wide variety of other pets, but then I think about how long it takes TNT to release decent pet colours now... and I'm not sure it's worth it.

Comments? Ideas?

Are you saying that all pets should be like Royal pets in the way that they are distinguished in gender, or do you, for whatever reason, think that Royal pets don't have any genders?...

Royalboy: "They do so, yo!"

I had to add that... ;)

:roflol:

Those little randomly added "Yo!"s are hilarious.

Well, think about it. What exactly would a female Red Grarrl look like?

I believe there was a picture of a very effeminate-looking Grarrl somewhere... maybe a caption or something. But what could differentiate a Grarrl in gender?

(Sure, a Grarrl isn't a good example... but yeah... I dunno. XD)

Maybe female graarls have a frill or head crest, or something. Or maybe it's the other way round?

"This may be something we do in the way distant future" - she's clearly forgotten that they already do differentiate for Royal, Usuki and Quiguki, and hopefully the trend will continue, because I like it :D

Personally, I hope if they do male and female wockies, the female won't look like this rather grotesque shopkeeper:

Scary!

That looks like a valley girl...

I don't think it's a good idea to make make and femake different, plus, it's a lot of work to do it with all the different colors and a lot of people will complain about it...

I don't think there is any need for male and female differences for colours that don't involve wearing clothes. Like Royal and Usuki, fair enough, because they wear clothes and it makes it easier, but how would you have a male/female glowing or cloud pet? And male pink pets? It's just not going to work...

I think the only problem is really the Usul with the bow. I don't know what they could change it to or how to make it more masculine, but if the male Usul had something rather than a bow, it might be better.

Or they could just revamp the ugly Usul so it doesn't have a bow at all :P Hehe
