Eh, not really. It looks more like a sugar glider or chipmonk. Mutant looks like a rat because it's a mutant and rathings are cool.

Why's "looking like a rat" in with negatives? I and lots of other people here have rats as pets, they're adorable.

Anyways, aside from the cheerful color scheme, this is a fantastic mutant. Maybe not as cool as mutant blumaroos, gnorbus, or tuskaninnies, but it has a LOT of personality on top of being blatantly ratlike and having cool bulgy eyes.

I always thought the Xweetok was closer to a chinchilla myself. Maybe crossed with a bit of chipmunk (just because of the stripes)... but since chinchillas seem to be gaining popularity as pets lately, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what TNT had in mind.

And I don't really think the mutant form looks like a rat. It just has a furless scaly tail, which several mammals have, including non-rodents like opossums. But more than anything it's just... a mutant. A randomly creepy version of the original.

It's probably negative since so many rats have become a 'pest' species; and with good reason. They're incredibly destructive and have destroyed quite a few native species in the process of being a pest species. Not to mention the transfer of disease... However, one can hardly fault them for they really were transferred by humans, so really it's our fault. I myself live in a rat-free province (or so it claims). Rats aren't allowed to be pets, and they're only kept for lab use under strict restrictions. If they are given away after lab use they're supposed to be steralized.
I myself, am not a rat fan. Native species of rats, sure, whatever, but your typical everyday rat is simply not cuddly to me. It may stem from the farming background. I'll admit, they can be cute sometimes, but as a pet? No Thanks.
Generally I think it's the whole "rat bias" due to the history of the black/norway rats that give rats a bad name. But I suppose thats a whole other discussion best left off neopets boards.
As I go, I am neither for nor against them. To each their own.
