Sharks and alligators are a stupid thing for the army to be spending their time on looking for. The chances are extremely low that a shark or an alligator will attack at the moment.
They do have people and hellicopters bringing in supplies for these people. It's been all over the news that they're doing it.
And yes, there are people dying, and yes it sucks. But they are working on getting these people out. And the death tole at the superdome is higher. But it really was only a temporary shelter. Considering it has no food, no clean water, and no facilities, i'm honestly surprised the death toll isn't higher. They do have doctors there. But how much do you think they can do at the moment? They're exhausted, nurses are exhausted, and theres' a never ending demand at the moment for them.
They have to get the military in there, and they've done that. They're working on it. It's not a miracle process. Moving that many people takes time, resources and a heck of a lot of money. It's being done. And at this moment in time, thats all that can be hoped for.

And you think they're not doing that? These are trained professionals, of course they're doing that. But in that situation it would be very hard to get proper sleep. And if you're a doctor or a nurse and there's kids screaming around you are you really going to be trying to sleep?

And i'm still waiting for the proof about the cannibalism.

Someone told me that Australia has pledged $10 million to help out. Over 50 countries have donated money so far, including Sri Lanka, who is still recovering from tsunami.

.... then...fine i give up.. i fighting anyway....and im tired.. but still, they were warned like a week ahead of time so they should have left then, and sri lanka gave us money because we helped them out and the US almost never gets anything from anyone...

And to your claim about no country ever suffering a Category 5 storm - aside from the absurdity of this statement, I can think of one off the top of my head. Cyclone Tracy.

It was technically classified as a Category 4, though there has been a lot of evidence to suggest it was in actual fact a Category 5 when it hit Darwin.

Sri Lanka gave us money because they're not selfish and help people in need, even if they're still trying to fix damage in their own country. It's not about payback. And the US doesn't get money from other countries often because the US seldomly needs it.

Alien, you really should go and back up your claims. Your facts are all messed up and you need to back up your claims with links to news sources instead of just "I saw it on the news last night" because frankly, you're making yourself look like an idiot.

Inrun is right, the US isn't the only country that suffers from category 5 hurricanes. Almost every hurricane to hit the U.S. on the Atlantic side also hits Bahamas and other countries in the Caribbean.

And the U.S. never gets help from anyone? May I quote the article that Alex posted:

I found it rather interesting that the red cross has millions of dollars left over from the 9/11 tragedy but they can't use that money to help with the hurricane. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing and that the 9/11 victims do not deserve it, but right now I think the children and victims families don't need all of it. It would be nice if meanwhile while they raise funds for the hurricane they could allocate some of the 9/11 money towards the hurricane relief and then use the funds raised from the hurricane to put back into what fund people donated for 9/11, as long as they didn't spend more than they could replace of course. Just to imagine all this money sitting in a fund that probably won't be tapped into until the children of the 9/11 victims go to college or something to pay for their tuition.

I'm happy to see though how fast people are donating online and how fast the red cross is rasing money through sites like amazon.com and yahoo.com. I donated a shamefull 10.00 last night, I hope to give more once what I spent on textbooks clears through. Well the way I see it every little counts huh. I urge those who can to help out, if you can't donate money perhaps try to see what your city is doing, if there are food drives or clothing drives which you could drop off supplies.

I agree, it has been almost 4 years. Yes, they deserve it, but it's over. It already happened. Right now, we have more to worry about. I'm not saying that 9/11 wasn't significant- it was! It was the worst attack on American soil- but right now, many other peoples' lives are at stake in our country.

I hope you guys donate. You can do so at amazon.com. I'm amazed- they raised over 4 million dollars already! At my mall they have somewhere you can donate and they give you a bracelet. Maybe they'll have places to donate in your city. I'm planning to donate. I don't know how much- I still need to save my money for college/my trip to Europe but I'll contribute somehow.

In other news...they FINALLY got the help today from the soldiers. A little late, but better late than never!

I must say I'm rather disgusted with some of the gas companies and hotels near my city who are trying to, of all things, price gouge the people trying to rebuild their lives, and people in general.
I'm also horrified that the looting going on over there has gotten so out of hand. They SHOT a cop in the head who was trying to stop them.
-There are kids coming all the way out here to middle Georgia to try and keep up with school. I know one of my friend's cousins are.

I can only hope it's fixed as quickly as possible, those poor people are in my prayers.

The damage and such from this is awful, the video footage and pictures horrifying. My mom mentioned a man being interviewed on the news talking about what he and his family would do once they 'got back to America.' I haven't been researching the disaster too much or watching a lot of TV, but that statement really struck me in terms of just how far removed from normal life the victims of this hurricane are. It is hard to believe that the security and protection many Americans take for granted deteriorated so quickly in the face of such a horrible disaster. Watching the footage on TV with some sort of musical background and watching the news advertise its coverage is just surreal. And I know they aren't showing the worst of it.

I think it is unfair to say that the people were warned and that those who didn't get out deserved their fate (there are a lot of bloggers on the internet expressing this sentiment, which is rather shocking to me. where is the American comraderie?!). Of course there was probably the naive or foolish person here or there who stayed despite the evacuation orders, but one has to take into account the elderly, the poor who have no means of transportation, the children, as well as the sick (and the doctors & nurses who stayed behind with their patients). Without some outside aid to help these people evacuate, they were stuck there, in the hurricane's path.

I just hope that the military and aid organizations will be able to rescue those who are stuck in the midst of the disaster quickly, because people are dying as they have been stranded and without necessities of life, such as water. It is hard, because while I know donating money helps, those people need hands-on help NOW! Just frustrating to be ONLY able to help in a monetary fashion.

My prayers are with those who suffered so much loss to due the hurricane, and most importantly, those who are still trapped; those whose very lives are still in danger.
