My Neopian Experiment

#1 Post by jrtman »

The One Black Meowclops Pen experiment (OBMP) was inspired by Kyle MacDonald's One Red Paperclip experiment in which Kyle started with a single red paperclip with the hope of trading for more valuable items until he receives an offer of a house.

On May 03, 2006 an idea popped into my head: I wanted to know if I could replicate the ORP experiment in the Neopets virtual world and thus OBMP was born. As the title suggests, I started out with a Black Meowclops Pen (worth around 2000 Neopoints) and have been trading up for better things ever since.

You can view the entire trade history by visiting PrinceGrizzly's petpage.

CURRENT ITEM FOR TRADE:
    Disco Petpet Paint Brush

    The trade lot is here

It's offering time :D

One PPTer discovered that some tiny little creatures cause electrical damage.

When I was younger my brother's youth group did that. They started out with eggs and somehow ended up with furniture.

I almost want to try it myself and see how it goes.

Very interesting. I like your idea :)
Although, personally I'd scrap the petpage for now, cause like the reallife version, popularization of his project may have compromised the actual true potential this experiment could've had.

But who knows. Haha. Keep it up :P

Good luck! But I agree with ScottNak - the fact that they know about this project may affect the results. But I hope it suceeds nonetheless!

I'm now up to Grilled Islandberry Slices. Thanks to everyone who traded, I hope I can keep this up :)

I agree, but without it I couldn't give credit and would make the mods mad by spamming the boards posting the new link. I could see it get complicated fast... :)

This is a very original and interesting idea :D Maybe keep a log of everything, make it look pretty, stick it on a petpage and I think you'd be in for a good chance of winning petpage spotlight (or whatever it's called).

Good luck ;)

I think it's an AWESOME idea!! I just read the entire trade history of One Red Paperclip, and it's fantastic -- and it's realistic! You slowly ask people to be just a little generous, and it slowly pays off! Good luck -- I'll go trade! :D

Thanks! I had read about the paper clip a few months ago and then today this experiment just came into my head; I have no idea what sparked it.

EDIT: I'm currently at a Christmas Petpet Paint Brush, I didn't expect to get this far so fast.

Wow, that beats my friend's group, one guy started with a paperclip and ended up with a bike. Now that's awesome, but furniture?! Man, I gotta get me a deal of eggs and the number of that youth group.

No new offers yet, but I suspect the more valuable the items get the slower I'll get offers but I'm not going to stop with this experiment until I get to the goal.

The current trade for the paint brush is here, so if anyone wants to put an offer on it while I'm logged off they know where it us.

All the past trades are listed on PrinceGrizzly's petpage so you can check that out if you want.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I'm having fun with this :)

I loved the idea of the ORP guy. and i'd totally offer you stuff to help you out on your quest, but i've got no items that i could trade it for. but a little later, i'd be happy to offer a florbix blaster for whatever it is that you obtain.

good luck!
