Cool, glad to hear it will be for everyone. This should be marvelous for security when it happens. (For that matter, my credit card company uses a PIN number on their site...)

Agreed that they should have it for user prefs, although, can you change the email without knowing the password? Cookie grabbers don't get the actual password so they couldn't change the email. (Other sorts of hackers could, though.)

One big oversight: STOCKS!

Self-freeze would be nice, too, although I think people have had a fair amount of success getting TNT to un-freeze accounts that were self-frozen due to hacking.

As a premium member I opted to beta test this new option, and so far I like it, I haven't used it in all the areas it can be used for, but it's great. Although in one's shop, you do not need the pin to withdraw the nps from your till, just to make changes like taking something out or setting the sell price. This is the only unfortunate situation I have seen so far, and I'm going to request a change on that right now. You should need your pin to withdraw nps from your till, just like the bank.

I'm testing it too, and I do wish it covered stocks as well. Most of my nps are in my stocks, I'd like to be able to protect that!

You can password protect any or all of these areas:
Neopian Bank
Safety Deposit Box
Shop Stock
Unequip Your Neopet
Gallery
Pound

WHAT??
Could this mean, perhaps... putting a pin on your pets, so you could adopt it on a side?

...wishful thinking, probably... but would be waaaaay cool

Some people on the premium boards had a good idea:

Quote:
At the bottom of the page it says that you can recieve your PIN # once a day at a certain e-mail.

You SHOULD send for it daily incase someone gets your PW and then can change your e-mail and get your PIN number.

I guess that would only work for one day, though, because it only blocks for one day, but it'd be enough time to email support.

So, the PIN number can't be cookie grabbed?

No, so that you have to enter the PIN before you abandon. That way they can't get rid of expensive pets.

From what I'm reading, it can't, as it's not stored anywhere. You just have to enter it to access the page each time.

People over on LJ have also thrown up the idea of having to enter a PIN before you go onto the boards, so that if you're hacked someone doesn't post offensive messages and getting you frozen.

I wouldn't use it myself, but it's worth thinking about.

Whoa, hold on now guys. Won't this get annoying after awhile if it was on EVERY major page?. Honestly!. Priority sections like banks, pound and SDB should be the limit. Sticking it on Stock Markets, Neohomes, and anything else you can think of seems a little.. over dramatic. If a hacker actually breached your account you'd be lucky with them running off with things like that, for if you were actually hacked it wouldn't be too damage intense.

Hm. But I'm planning my pin number regardless.

Image How come in the TCG: Darkest Faerie edition there's a Yellow Gallion, but no such option to paint your Gallion this colour exists?.

Well, there really wouldn't be a problem because you can choose what you want to put the PIN on. It's all optional and you can pick and choose, so you'd only PIN what you want to protect. Different people would PIN different things depending on their priorities.

Spoken like someone who doesn't earn their income from stocks. If someone sold all my stocks and ran off with the money, I wouldn't be "lucky," it would a disaster, and it would certainly be "damage intense". Stocks are a priority section to me. Losing that would probably be worse than losing the contents of my SDB when you count the loss of income as well as the face value of my portfolio.

I think stocks definately could use a PIN, and I think the option to have one on the Neohomes "remove item" would be a good idea, too. If you don't want one on you're stocks page, you don't have to have one.

Also...you can turn them on and off individually at will, so some of them you may not want to activate unless you were going to be away for many hours or even days, so someone couldn't run amok unbeknownst to you. The more the merrier :)

75% of my wealth is in the stock market, so that isn't dramatic to me. If I had to choose whether to have them take my bank or my stocks, I'd choose to lose my bank nps.

One thing though - if someone gets in your account because they know your password, but not your pin, can't they just change the email address to their own, and then request the pin? To change your email address, all you need is the password to your account, which they know since they got into your account. And to change the email doesn't require any confirmation from the old email account, just the new one. So all they have to do is change the email account, and they can request the pin.
