I adopted a pet about a month ago and was wondering if it is possible to change the name the previous owner gave it. I sent an e-mail to neopets but they never replied

Does anyone know this? And is it possible to change the name of your original pet?

I don't think so.

I have the same problem with a pet I adopted. I really wish Neopets would allow name changes; I don't see why it would be a problem, so long as they restricted people from using already-taken names (which is the case when you create the pet anyway). Heck, it might even allow a few good names to be freed up.

Perhaps that's the concept for some people, but those looking to personalize their pet can change all of those aspects of the pet once they adopt it, even the gender. The only part of the pet they can't change is the name.

I think allowing for name changes might help alleviate the massive number of pets stuck in the pound; how many potentially good pets are stuck in there because they have a horrible name?

Yeah. I makes me sick when I see limited edition or painted pets in the pound with names like x_fartfartfart_134857162438957_x. Seriously, they're there.

Not that much of a drag on the dbs depending on how they implented it. It's a feature a lot of people would like to see so I don't see it as any more "unneccesary" than people talking about 5 pets per account.

You never know what tnt would be able to do in the future, but I certainly don't think the point of the pound is to just make do with what you get. As has been said, the name of a pet is the only thing that cannot be changed about any one pet, and depending on the implementation it would be perhaps possible, certainly not impossible, and certainly not a given that it will never happen.

Just give it a try. When I adopted my 2nd Ixi, Lugftgfg, I hated the name, but it has really grown on me. He's now a starry Ixi! Anyway, just give it time. You'll start to like your pet's name in no time. And if not, then you cvan create a pet yourself.

I think one point is that you could look up a pet of yor friends, discover that the pet with that name belongs to someone else, and have tons of peope reporting.

Besides, you can nickname your pets. For example, I have a pet named ANewDayHasComeAgain whom I call Andy. I call Batty_Scare_Freak Batty and FallenFaerie Faerie. You don't nessesarily have to say Fluffy495798759847698 everytime you mension your pet.

You can never say TNT wont do it. YOu never know with them.

I personally think that would be a great idea, just to relieve the pound. I would definatly get my pets from thre if I could change the name. Theres no point of creating more if you dont have to

I think being able to change your pets name is a great idea...BUT...

it probably should cost the user somthing. Enough to where people won't/can't constantly change their pet names and slow down the database, but not so much its like earning for a PB. 50k or somthing like that should be reasonable.


I don't think name-changing should be that hard...I'm sure they could program it just like actually creating a pet, but the stats, color and species, age, etc, are pre-set depending on the current ones of the pets. Okay, so maybe it could be difficult...honestly, I have no idea how hard it would be. But there has to be a way...

Renaming a pet with the current database setup would likely require deleting the current pet and making a new one of a different name with the exact same height, color, gender, age, petpet, stats, abilities, etc.

Now, if you take into consideration all the variables, and how easy it would be for just -one- to mess up... that is why we aren't able to rename pets. XD

Being able to do so would probably require a total overhaul of how the site handles pets and stuff, if it works the way I think it does.... ^^";

Maybe somehow they could give out a nametag item that lets you rename one of your pets once. It could be be one of those items you can't sell or trade, and only given out in newbie packs.

Why should just newbies get it? We should all be able to get it. But like the gender potion, itll probably cost a fortune :/

But I like the idea. I mean, hey. If you adopt a dog named fluffy, you dont hav to keep the name. You can call it FIDO for all it matters.
