Books. When I'm ready for sleep. I grab a book I've read so I know what's going to happen (don't want to get caught up in it) And read. I read every night for abotu 10minutes before I fall asleep.

I read somewhere that artificial light is bad for you when you want to sleep, because it tricks your body into thinking it's daytime. So that means stay away from computer screens, bright lights, TV, etc.

I usually just read a book. However there is some nights I can just not fall asleep. A lot of times it's because I'm too hot, so turning my fan on seems to help me fall asleep quicker.

That reminds me, I heard somewhere that you shouldn't be on the computer half an hour before you sleep.

And I agree with Jellyoflight, hot baths help. It helps you cool down afterwards and makes you sleepy at the same time... Just... dont fall asleep in the bathtub. ;)

Whenever I need to fall asleep I just pop on my headphones, lay back and just try to shut my brain off. I find that I loose a lot of sleep just because I spend the entire night thinking about my problems with friends, family and whatnot.
I never tried the warm milk thing. I think the idea of warm milk that isn't hot cocoa sounds a bit nasty. :P

Don't use the net. For some reason... being on the computer will keep you up in a zombie state.

I actually need help staying awake. Coffee or tea fails to keep me awake.

Guess I shouldn't on the computer until 1.30 am, then go to sleep :P

I find rolling on the bed useful, but if your bed is close to a wall, don't roll too much. I crahsed my head to the wall once. Try not to think of everyday things while trying to sleep. It's not possible to think of nothing at all, so I'd focus on thinking black.

The only thing that keeps me awake in noise which isn't helpful when you have a brother who falls asleep with his TV on or uses MSN Messager with the sound on late at night. The countless times I asked him to turn them off at night really drives me insane and up the wall. :x

Then in the following morning his alarm to go off early in the morning and he then doesn't bother getting up when it goes off so he then presses the sleep button, then soon after it goes off again and he presses the sleep button again etc. This goes on multiple times in the same day until he finally decides to get up. :x

Unplug his speakers and hide them.

pfft, set his alarm clock to go off three hours early.

mostly when i need to sleep i just stumble to bed and bury myself in pillows (i seem to have acquired six of them somhow o_O )

DON'T DO ANYTHING STIMULATING BEFORE BED.

Apparantly, reading a book, magazine or watching TV in the half and hour before you go to bed gets your mind stimulated, taking upwards of an hour to wind back down. Exercise is a good idea, because it is also a stress reliever and will calm you down.

also:

Exercise right before trying to sleep is actually bad. It results in increased heart rate, blood flow, and so on. If you want to wear yourself out with exercise, plan on finishing an hour or so before you want to sleep.
