our advertisers, not us creating the popups.
I hate the banners just about as much as you do ...

I sort of figured it wasn't Neopets and that when Adam found out he'd get on it.I'm glad he knows about it. Hopefully everything will be taken care of soon.

For some reason, every time I try to email him, he sends back a form reply referencing some sort of restraining order. Hmm.

And Neopets is stepping up efforts to make money from the huge volume of traffic on its free Web site by signing licensing deals and selling ads, which are already stirring up controversy among some parents and watchdog groups.

This unfortunately isn't the first pop-up and I doubt it'll be the last. Not because Adam, Donna and the staff don't care -- on the contrary I believe that they DO care.
There's still something that tries to d/l something Active X now and then on my computer, I still don't know what the ad is. I get a blank space and the Active X warning.
The bottom line is the banner ads are bad. They cause computers to slow down (mine sometimes crashes); they bring tracking cookies, adware, malware and if you click any of these ads (most of which are scam/spam sites) you run the real risk of spyware - at the least.
With just about any of these ad networks there's going to be pop-up woes. Burstnet is one that defeats my pop-up blocker, Spybot and ad-aware. It's a very persistent pop-up. I just hope they don't start using them!

The "stepping up efforts" part. I going to guess that's what the bottom page ads were?
There's been talk of a movie for I think close to a year now.

If you look at the second image I posted, you will see that under the pop up window, it says "Thanks for submitting. We'll look into it as soon as we can." I copied and pasted the pop up's url and submitted it to support immediately after it happened.
