Same here. I didn't mind the Red Lobster, Wall Street Journal, and Eddie Bauer ads--still ads, but from respectable companies. But the "Kiss Brad Pitt' ad so one can "win" (ha!) an IPod is even sleazier than the one that had a cockroach running across my screen. I mean really, now, kiss Brad Pitt? Just how much lower can you go in the advertising world?

is there any way to block the ones at the bottom and/or the top? I seem to have heard of one, but I don't remember. Restocking is a pain now, as my method brings me to the ads first, rather than the bottom items. :(

to get rid of ads:

[quote=Alright, well, this does require Firefox...but I have good news. I found a way to block the advertisements AND all that blank white space at the top. Follow these instructions carefully.

Step 1: If you don't have Firefox already, get it here. Configure it, etc.
Step 2: Download these 2 extensions in Firefox after installing the browser -
AdBlock 0.5.2
ChromEdit
Step 3: Restart Firefox, then click on Tools - Adblock - Preferences
Step 4: Add 3 new filters:
http://images.neopets.com/buttons/*
http://images.neopets.com/728ads/*
http://images.neopets.com/ads/*
Click Add button to save them. Then click done.
Step 5: Go to Tools - Edit User Files, then click on the userContent.css tab.
Step 6: Scroll all the way to the end, then enter a new line:
#ban { display: none !important; }
Click the Save button.
Step 7: Restart Firefox and enjoy an ad-free NeoPets experience[/quote]

For IE:

Open note pad and paste the following in there:

div.ban,div#ban {
display: none !important;
}

Then, rename the txt part of the file to css. Remeber where you put the file.

Open IE, go to Tools>Internet options>accessibility under general. Check the "format documents using style sheet" box and browse for the file you saved as css. Restart IE and you are done :)

To remove some of the bottom ads: if you are on firefox, right click the bottom ad and click "ad block *insert ad url here*" Do that for every ad you see and soon you should have blank spaces instead of ads.

Edit: evil typos =P

Sorry, was too lazy to read through the previous posts as I haven't been home since 8 AM and now it is about 11 PM. :(

And also, sometimes, they don't show up at all, and sometimes they do. So it is really random and annoying to never now when it will or will not be there when your restocking and have to scroll up or not. :x

EDIT: Thanks dark. :) Worked for me in FF, but my IE is in a different language, that my parents can understand completely, but I cannot. So I guess I will just have to live with them on IE unless I can figure out which one says the english tab. :P

Rest assured no banners will appear on your userlookups!

I just love how they put this with the announcement on the news page. Hmmmmm.... somehow I just don't believe them. I'm still waiting for the ads to appear in the item lookups. Or better yet, getting more adware from them. :x

And for those of us that are technologically impaired... will getting firefox affect anything important on the way the computer loads? Is it difficult to set up? just wanted to know before I started following all the directions on the posts. Thanks :hug:

This is infuriating. I'm using Firefox and adblocking them all. I blocked an MSN and a Valentines ad, and they came back on other pages. I blocked them several more times, and now they seem to have finally gone.

I keep getting stupid annoying Ebay ads down the bottom, too. >_>;

no, firefox is perfect and easy to install. i love it so much and i'm never going back to IE! not after i got a trojan virus that installed over 500+ malware programs and killed my last computer; and that was WITH norton. it happened from something downloading without my permission on a lyric site. :P

You can just use asterisks as wildcards to block all ads from a same source. ;)

Best-case? They realize that the wiser players are blocking the new ads, too, and so they just live with it and get on with their lives.

Nah, I think it has room to get worse.

Next up, neopets will scrap making the "Mok" the newest pet species in Neopia, and we'll all be forced to adopt one of these:

Hey, stop looking at me funny...

...it could happen....nothing they do will shock me at this point. :roll:

:lol: ya know, at this point i wouldn't be a bit surprised!

:roflol: That is too funny, especially the ipod petpet and the petpetpet! It wouldn't surprise me either; if this goes much further I'm not going to use their site anymore. It's funny that they were able to get along for so many years with several sponsors and selling plushies, but then all at once they have to put a banner, then change it to a larger banner, then put an additional ad at the bottom of the page.
