I definetely support your view. Reducing the size of ads(if possible, since you already told us it's the standard industrial size) would make the rest of us MUCH happier Smile Along with the faster loading for us dial up users as well!

Oh, I wasn't talking about reducing ad size, I know that won't happen. I was talking about making the page title banner much smaller in height and sticking it onto the bottom of the yellow bar. I think if redesigned it would look cool. And get rid of some whitespace...then, the content could be moved up a whole banner's height while not changing the ad banner.

I don't see ads, I love Adblock. People who get dizzy from seeing them should really try Firefox. :)

Anyway this was offtopic...sorry! Site is deffo faster, this time of evening Charter (ISP) is always lagging for me so I notice it more now.

What would Honor do?

No difference -- it's usually fast in CET (for a broadband connection, that is. Dial-up is faster now :) ).

(Adding mod_gzip also increases CPU cycles / request, which in turn can lead to the speed being reduced -- if the server is handling too many hits. But hey, looks bright so far.)

Its ok we have more than enough servers to handle the load, which incidentally is only a 5-10% CPU hit, so not too bad. Less network traffic is nice for us too :)

Only a 5-10% CPU hit?!?! *faints* That's some nifty server management get up you guys got there. *impressed*

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.

It is moving faster for me now, which is nice. I will try playing the game that was seriously slow tomorrow, just to see how that works out.

So, thanks, and thanks to all who got the shops back and everything else that went kind of haywire for awhile :)

The topbanner. I am starting to scroll as soon as I click a page, but it's not always working. Firefox I can't get to work right, don't know why...probably me (sooo non-techie it's pathetic)! One of our guild members did announce tonight that they're leaving because of the topbanner - just can't take the big animation (also has physical problems), so yes, I am very unhappy about seeing a long time player and a friend leave.

Pfft, silly me for not reading carefully others posts :p Well, I guess I should give firefox a go.... I've never used anything other than IE though, so is it any good other than you can block the ads?

Just how many servers does neopets actually have. I looked in a source code and found 173 servers.

Tell doug to rent out the servers to serve specific people faster loading times for extra cash instead of a big banner on top :)

Save the trees! Don't do homework!

i havent noticed much of a difference, as i'm on broadband, but is there anyway you could re-code the pages so the toolbar images dont refresh when you hit f5? As it's really annoying to refresh a page (eg inventory) and the images refresh. its fine when you're navigating the site, as it doesnt load the image every page, just on refreshes...

I'm not sure about it being faster (as long as neo is working, it's fine by me), but does that mean the side bar is supposed to load faster now? It still loads at the same speed for me - first the old side bar - wait -pauses- Suddently it all loads together quickly! Yay! ^-^;

Yes, if you're switching from IE, Firefox is your best bet. It's layout and buttons are more IE-like compared to Mozilla & Netscape. Of course there are still some Netscape-ish things too, like IE 'Favorites' are still called 'Bookmarks' in Firefox.

Download it here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Someone here recently posted instructions for installing Firefox & Adblock and blocking the banners...I think its in a sidebar thread.
