Its worth buying a few incase they release an av for them. But there are so many released that it would take an awful lot of money to drive the price up!

At least I know who has been driving the price of noils up! *Glares* j/k :roflol:

Items that have been around for that long aren't worth trying to drive up. A few months ago I realized it was worth driving up the price of I Love Sloth Cushions because there weren't even enough to fill up a whole page of Wiz pages, so I bought all the buyable ones (about 15, I believe). The price is now above 200K, so that's the kind of thing you need to look out for.

It wouldn't be freezable to corner the market because then it would be illegal to sell an item for far more than what TNT has estimated the price of an item. They estimate the price of the Wand of Reality to be like 33K or something, and it could cost you 5 mil to buy it. That could be seen as price gouging, but it isn't because that's the demand for it and stuff. It's all economics.
The problem with this isn't trying to inflate the price, it's that you could raise the price a little, but it would go back down before you could sell them all.

The only way that seems to work is buying when things are ultra cheap (or at least cheaper than normal) like with advent calendar items or occasionally MP prizes or the McDonald's plushie giveaway. Price goes back to normal, and you can ame a profit.

My guess-timate is that you would have to spend about 2 mill to corner the market.

The morality of such a thing ... I will leave alone.

cost of buying up x number of the same item and moral issues aside (though that is a good point as far as I'm concerned) - it is against the rules to try to artificially inflate the value of an item.

I've seen it in action - the one I remember most for some reason is the tyrannian amulet. Seems a few people got together, bought up a whole lot of them, then went on the boards saying they were going to be retired, become something wonderful for the BD, all kinds of things. The price went up to just under unbuyable .... then dropped below the original prices within 24 hours. There were alot of people stuck with those things that they either couldn't sell or had to take a huge loss on, just for listening to a rumor by a few np-hungry people.

There's enough inflation on the site, IMHO. None of us needs to add to it.

Well, sageinwhite didn't mention anything about being malicously deceptive, so that's not really the same thing. Buying how ever many of an item with np that you've earned shouldn't be against the rules. If someoen specifically said that an item was worth more suddenly when they did know they were lying is scamming.

There are only a few times when buying a lot of an item is a good idea, and normal items aren't usually a good idea. I remember buying 20 Trick or Treat Bags for 6K each when people were still picking them up last year, and now they're worth 70K. It just depends on circumstances at the moment, and you have to be able to see how it is going to change in your favor.

Now LYING about an item is TOTALLY WRONG!

My pet peeve is people who put regular items in the TP for a lot more than they're worth and people accept that value because the didn't check the Wiz and nobody else has that item in the TP. Dirty Trick!

Yeah I wasnt being malicious or anything, :) I just wanted to drive them up because I think there are way to many of them and think they should be retired. Anyway, I spent about 1 mil on buzzers only to drive them up by 300 np :) so it really wasnt worth it, lol.

Heh one person driving up prices, that's funny :D I have seen whole guilds try and do it and most of the members end up losing np. A few players cannot control the market forever, and it's kind of funny to watch them try. They start out making a profit, but soon the market crashes, it's inevitable.

Driving up prices is not a good thing, but if it's happening anyhow (like an item needed for an av), that's the way the market goes and it can be very profitable to go along for the ride (so long as you know how so you don't lose np when it crashes). But if it's just a few people trying to rope you into helping drive up the prices, run, because you'll lose your np in the end.
