Friend Grabbed

Thu Feb 16, 2006 7:28 am

A friend of mine was cged today and his gallery/SDB cleared out, so we're starting over and rebuilding what he had. Does anyone know if Stone Fragments are findable and what their prices might be? I tried looking in the SW but came up empty handed. Irritating in that he spent hours on that plot lost in the Temple to loose his peices to some greedy little cheat. I can imagine telo's shock in loosing the RotL. That plot was tedious and long work. Now trying to figure out how much its going to cost to get him back to where he was.

Unfortunately there's a lot of people who are doing it too- not just Kaos. Only they're not as well known...

First of all, it's not bravery. Bravery is what makes firemen go into burning buildings to save children. Hiding behind an internet alias while you screw with people on a game site because you say you're trying to teach TNT a lesson is not bravery.

Second, for all we know he could be stealing his coding from somewhere and TELLING everyone he wrote it. You don't have to be smart to do something like that. And even if he IS some amazing coding genius, he's using all his marvelous intelligence to hack a game site. That makes him stupid.

Hmm yeah I suppose but still...*backs out* Hes definitely...scary... LOL unfortunately my neopets living depends on restocking...

I'm not sure. I don't know what's been done by TNT and what's being done by these rotten people who're still cg'ing. I know that at least for awhile alot of the cg codes were being typed in white font, meaning if you just view source you won't see anything. You have to highlight everthing in a user edited area to see the js or whatever they're using.

I wouldn't take the time, personally. If you get cg'ed and want to see, get the view source, minimize that, then go directly to user pref and get that password changed ASAP. That is why I suggested having your user pref page open in another window or tab, and have a list of new passwords typed out on a notepad. You could just c&p your current, then the new one in the spaces provided. Then I guess you could go and look at the source page.

Ira, from my understanding of things I've seen posted, no it's not completely safe. Much better ... Thank you TNT ... but not completely. Notes cheshyr1's post above.

cheshyr1, I'm really sorry for your friend getting caught in this mess. Using the PIN right now for everything you can is SO important. If nothing else, it would definitely slow someone down from being able to get into your account and taking your items/np/pets.

It's really annoying, maddening and frustrating that TNT does go and look for and find vulnerabilities, fix them and there has to be people who have nothing better to do than go in and try to find new ones. It's ridiculous. These scriptkiddies should be very glad they're not my child, trust me. It would not be pretty.

Has the problem been fixed?

Thanks for the suggestion, Everconfused, I will keep open my preferences window.

I have been putting off buying codestones all week because of this.. grrr..

Good news

There is good news, everconfused. :) The CGer neomailed my friend's old (hacked) account to gloat over their accomplishment. I've told him to check that it isn't a 'victim's account he was Neomailed from. If it is the CGer's real account and they aren't Neomailing him through a 'hacked' account, then the CGer deserves what fate they have in store.

Actually ... he (or she) didn't get caught in a net. This is something that's been going on for at least a month. Accounts that aren't being frozen either by the cg'er posting something awful on the boards, using the stolen account to scam or just cleaning it out and/or just using the self-ice link appear to either: A) be used to plant more cg's on lookups/shops/pet lookups/galleries; or B) being used by the cg'er or one of this group to neomail the victim and taunt them - which usually ends up getting the account frozen.

I don't know that there's any such thing as a cg'er "real" account. They may make new accounts, but those tend to be frozen pretty quick. Mostly they are using accounts of people they've stolen.

Even trying to trace IP may not be effective, as those can change. *sigh*

I just wish this was over, once and for all. I'm so tired of either not being able to do anything but play some games (can't even enter WC anymore, grumble), go to the boards and my guild ... no shopping, no checking out a new lookup and then going to the boards or coming here and finding out that even more people have been grabbed. It's just very sad and disheartening. For something that's supposed to be fun, an escape from teh real world and not stressful.

I am past my shock and denial and into full-fledged anger (been in depression the entire time). Today (late Friday night) 4 days after submitting my abuse report my account gets frozen for 'you may have either fallen for a scam....'. I filled out the suggested form to get my account back, however I doubt anything will be done this weekend. Based on my current experience, getting premium would be a hard sell. I would like TNT to be held accountable for the mental anguish they are causing so many innocent people. I think they should be ashamed and deserve a dressing-down for letting this continue. There are many solutions, but I see that they spent time implementing more ad scripts. I can see how these hackers have been turned to the dark side. I started playing Neopets with my nine year old daughter (now she's 11) to make sure she was learning something on a safe site. She enjoys collecting these trading cards and many others. We have even played in TCG tournaments. I came in third in the Akon Inuyasha draft event last June. As I said, I am angry. I cant vent to TNT, so I hope you all can understand my feelings. I have done nothing wrong and it seems that there will be no restitution.

Seems like I ask this question every couple of weeks nowadays which is just incredible but....

Is it over now?

Tue Feb 21, 2006 8:34 pm

Trick, NO, it's not over. There don't seem to be as many people ... either that or the awful people responsible for this are being quieter about it.

Shops in particular at the moment seem to be bad news. Go to the shop wiz, search, say, a codestone. Find one for really cheap, go to the shop. The shop is blank, nothing to click. And this is not a new person who doesn't know HTML so messed up their shop layout. There were at least 4 shops with this yesterday, and there's been a few cg'ed accounts out of it.

Thanks everconfused :) Buying codestones is a big one for me *pets pet stuck in the training school* This forum has been great for keeping everyone up to date with when it's safe and when it isn't, it's always easy to tell when it starts but if you're being careful it's hard to tell when it's safe again.

Big thumbs up to everyone for sharing the information and keeping us all safe!

There was tons of people being frozen on the kad boards today, I guess it should be a good idea not to go in shops today.
