Well my answer was less than 3000 and it didn't even need rounding. But it might be messed since to try the combo 0 0 0 0 you don't need to move. maybe it only works for combos which involve different numbers but that would make it too hard for me

We should give out hints because then more people can get a trophy... these things are Hard!! And look at the prize money... 2 million nps? Thats not very much.... thousands and thousands of people will be getting it right. I will like to see the look on peoples faces when they end up winning 15 np from the counadrum! *WHAT??! I was supposed to be RICH! RICH I TELL YOU!*

Now, somebody said with the direction factor that the combination could go right-right-left or left-right-right or left-left-left or something.... lockers dont work that way... you could just pass the number and keep on going, and have one of the numbers correctly. So, its either going to go left right left, or right left right. They are bascially saying it needs to be multiplied by 2. I still havent figured this one out, but I can allready tell that yeah, it should be above 3000....... I ... think... *brain hurts*

Well, Scott and I attempted with this conundrum...and ended up with an answer far over 3000 days. In fact, it ended up very, very close to 100 years. Hrm, I guess people have a lot of different ways to do this one. :\

well i'll show everyone the way i was taught to do these types of problems.. first u know that there're 59 different #s it could be.. and the options are it could either be 4/3 dial #s and could go left or right so what i did was

turning right(3 dial #s) 59*59*59
turning left(3 dial #s) 59*59*59
turning right(4 dial #s)59*59*59*59
turning left(4 dial #s)59*59*59*59

then i added all of this together and multiplied by 15.. then i divided by 60 to get minutes by 60 to get hours by 24 to get days.. is my strategy wrong? eh whatever :) i think that ppl should help eachother tell answers and the reason neopets is doing the 2 mil. thing is to try and stop us from teling eachother but yea i think its nice too..

My only problem with that is, the dials go from 0-59. Meaning 60 total numbers. But neo didn't really say if you could use zero or not. I used a similar formula, except I also accounted for the 'direction of the wheel' portion of the challenge. ;) And it doesn't matter how big the pot would be, people would still share the answer. Still, I do like this much better, since they now reward everyone who manages to correctly answer the question, and not just the first 250 people. (Plus, for the really hard ones like the meerca chase one, the people who got it right would get a substantial prize. ;) )

Assumptions, mostly. Are there only two ways to turn the wheel? Can numbers repeat?

In any case, it would be something like: 60*59*59*59+60*59*59 if they can't repeat, and 60^4+60^3 if they don't, if you don't count the two directions (multiply by two).

Wouldn't that be 60*59*58*57 + 60*59*58 if they can't repeat?
I assumed numbers are allowed to repeat, anyway. :)

He meant they can't repeat one after another.

Im not saying this is correct, but heres my method.
There are 60numbers, 3 or 4spins, left and right spins.
so....
There are two tree charts. I assumed that numbers dont repeat (cuz that would be dumb, you wouldnt have to turn the dial at all. I also assumed that it didnt matter how many times you spinned it in each direction.).
Tree chart #1 - 60x59x59 (3 number combination)
Tree chart #2 - 60x59x59x59 (4 number combination)
Then I multiplied each chart's result by 2 seeing that the direction can go both ways. I dont want to give MY answer away here, so ill just remind everyone that the answer is in days, not amount of combinations.

Its not about what you do, but about how you go on doing it.

Yes, and I'm wondering if we can also use 0, as well as turn right AND left.

I need that NP! After I lost my spellbook...

I'm not sure if it is right, but I am guessing the method above that explains the way of calculating it by not repeating numbers is the correct way except multiply by 2 multiply by 4 because each combo w 3 number and 4 numbers has a possiblity of going right left right or left right left so that would be times 4 not times 2...Just thought I would mention it...It's just what I think!

Nope, sorry, it is multiply by two, as the two events are unrelated.

(In other words, you have double the tree-digit pool because you can go left-right-left and right-left-right, and double the four digit pool) 2(A) + 2(B) = 2(A+B)

same difference...I'm saying (A+B) x 4...this is the same as what you just said just they didn't state it like that above.

Double post combined. Read the rules and use the edit button in the future.

nevermind mine is different, but above the say (A+B)2 and I knew that was wrong and I said it wrong, but that is the correct way

2(A) +2(B)

sorry about that

I just was thinking that it wasn't just multiply by 2 once I knew both had to be multiplied but I stated it wrong.
