Yeah. I'm doing it the hard way. I've been playing on and off for 6 months on dial up and only just got 250K. Thats an achievement for me and i'm very proud of it considering I have no trophies and have no luck when it comes to RE's and The Dailies..

Urgh, autobuyers suck. And i also hate the other programs like Auction Snipers progs and wiz rs progs, it just sucks. It progs like these which get innocent people frozen.

But as long as Neopets is phtml and php, there'll always be programs. If they re-did the whole rs system in flash or something, i'm pritty sure these C programs would be blocked.

not sure if those people are purely innocent

and i'll admit it is tempting to people who cannot compete with the bigger earners, i'm on dilaup, which often fails to hit anything higher that 45.5kbps on average, and yeah, people in my situation would be tempted

but personally, i wouldn't want to lose my 2 lab rays which took me forever to get, my pets and my accounts and galleries. the longer you've been on the less incentive you have to cheat like that.

and as for satisfaction, alot of people get satisfaction out of having nps to spend, so yes, people do do it and don't care about things like that.

If you see my sanity, get it to give me a call.

I have to agree with autechre.

It is just my opinion, of course, but I think a person's "innocence" is thrown out the window once they decide to cheat at the game. If a person is cheating, he/she is not innocent and shouldn't try to talk themself into thinking they are.

It's not like these cheat programs are crammed down the "innocents" throats. And, just because a program is out there doesn't mean you should download it and attempt to cheat.

The real innocents are those people who play the game and do not cheat. Because they are the ones affected the most by the AB programs. They are the ones who can never get a rare item by RSing or have to pay exorbitant prices for rare items because some restocker is hoarding all of them.

They also end up paying higher prices than they should for rare items-- it's pure economic theory--because sooner or later, Neo finds the AB cheater and freezes their account--along with freezing all of the rare stuff sitting in that same account. So, if only 10 of a certain rarity 99 item is out there and the cheater has 1 sitting in their frozen account, that means the price of the other 9 will rise.

I greatly admire anyone who is given the opportunity to cheat and does NOT do so.

[joke]What's the link? :P[/joke]

If I was given the chance, I honestly wouldn't use it. I'd almost surely lose my account!

But if a newbie was offered it, they may not know, and....bam.

I must admit, a FAKE program that asks for your loggin would be a VERY effective account grabber for any nasty scammers out there. Greedy people will try anything.

When there is an oppertunity to cheat the sad thing is people will take it!

*shrug* there will always be people like that. and as for the cheats for games and stuff, i walked into my newsagent today to buy another magazine, and saw like 7 magazines which were purely dedicated towards cheating on ps2, gameboy and ect.

Here's the thing, though. When you cheat at Half-Life or something, all you're doing is cheapening the experience of the game for yourself. You make yourself bored, and then you won't be as inclined to play it again in the future.

But when you cheat on Neopets, especially using an autobuyer or grabber program, what you're doing is actually making it harder for someone else to play the game successfully, thus making it less fun for THEM as well as yourself.

Before the great PPT crash of '04, there was a long thread about autobuyers, and FirebirdGM (who wrote one) came on and mentioned how he looked at writing cheat programs as a challenge. I can understand that - if you're looking for a challenge, defeating anti-hacker or anti-scammer technology is one way to do it.

But here's the thing: what you're really doing is beating up on little kids. When you use a cheat program, you're doing the equivalent of stealing candy from a baby. What's the point in that? Does that sort of thing make a programmer feel good about themselves?

I honestly don't know. But it peeves the heck out of me.

I don't understand why anyone would use an autobuyer. Yeah, I suppose I understand people wanting to be rich, but it my experience playing neopets, earning np was always much more fun than having np. There were numerous times when purposely speant all of my np just so I could start from scratch and it always got me more into the game.

They are too lazy and extremely greedy. And impatient.

What is the point of games if you cheat on them? You are totally losing the point of playing the game, i.e challenging yourself. All you do is give yourself a fake sense of accomplishment.

To us, Neopets is the game, to them cheating is the game. People like this are always self centered and most often psychopathic. People like us don't understand how they could stoop so low as to hurt other people, but to them other people are insignificant and unworthy of compassion. They do temporarily feel good about themself when they accomplish their goal. Beating up on little kids gives them pleasure, sick as it is. Someone crying is funny to them.

There have always been and will always be people like this. The only thing you can do is try and make it as hard as possible for them.

Thankfully most kids and adults are wise enough not to fall for stuff, and once most people get scammed they don't let it happen again. Neo seems to spend a lot of time thwarting this crap, which is great but sad, since if it weren't for such ugly people they could put their efforts into more fun stuff.

Why do people cheat on Neopets?

That's the same as asking why people steal in real life, isn't it?

As a side note, most of the 'elite' hackers/programmers really do take cracking popular sites as a challenge. It's just unfortunate that Neopets happens to attract these people, and kids as well. So, it's like instead of stealing from an adult, you're stealing from a child as well.

Of course, being a lazy person myself, I can understand why people would want autobuyers doing the work for them. Like, in real life, wouldn't you prefer to be some fabulously rich heir then having to work hard to achieve upper middle class status?

Erm. *stops rambling*
