Well the RE did come out way before the grey pets did... But I think thats an awesome idea, it would make much more sense for a grey pet to be unhappy.
Then of course, everyones goal will be to make their pet miserable.

here's what i sended them through the idea form:

Hey there neopets team! Great job making all neopets colors and all those items and making several people happy that you have this site, and thanks for reading this while you guys are probably hard working on NeoSchools (if not, that's a tip)

Now what i wanted to talk about is the random event that randomly changes your pet color to blue when it is unhappy. This random event has been released before the release of the gray paint brush and i think you see where i'm going now... The random event should change your neopets gray. It's random anyway and it's very difficult to make your pet unhappy, poisonous jellies, rotten omelettes and broken toys are difficult to obtain anyway.

I hope that is not to hard to understand, again: great job making neopets a fun place, keep up the good work, anyway, you have my comments. Bye!

i think my opinion about it is in there 0:)

I feel the Lab Ray is completely random. If we collectively kept stats, we'd probably find there isn't anything consistent happening to those of us that lab regularly.

So in stating that, I feel like there was a brief period of time where I felt like my labbed pet was reset to level 1 a few times too many, then all of a sudden it stopped, and hasn't happened since.

Probably not the answer you were looking for eh?

Here's my best (approx) guesses on one pet over the course of 2 months...

Changed gender = 11%
Changed species = 2%
Changed color = 5%
Changed levels = 20%
Nothing happened = 2%
Defense, movement, etc. = 60%

Did I miss anything? I know that some actually keep track dailly, maybe one day I will purely for stats sake.

It's been done... IDB has it listed somewhere what the percentages are for lab ray effects... they did a big study on it a year or so ago...

(Why does everyone forget these type of things? :p)

Ummm, maybe I wasn't clear enough. Those are MY stats over the past 3 months. Not Nepets users collectively.

As far as why don't people remember stuff such as that, I can count off multiple reasons, the first simply being, some people are new to PPT, maybe saying it again for their benefit wouldn't cause any harm. Just a thought?

;)

hmm shouldn't it turn grey not blue? maybe thats just me lol try not feeding it.. and not playing with it.. and keeping it at 0 hp

It just makes sense for when they're so sad, that their face reflects their sadness. I'd suggest it to the ENT, but the editorial link in the NT is down.

I did it once to my Elephante that I turned mutant. It was so hideous that is why i wanted it to become blue, and it did become blue.

What I did was making the pet sick. I remembered feeding it a rotten omelette.

My pet has been miserable for months. It's much better if you use the lab ray because it changes color more oftem than one little random event. 5% is more than the much less than 1% of getting that RE. Besides, you'll probably get a more desirable color using the lab. As a last resort [that is if the RE doesn't come and your lab disappered] buy a paint brush. I wouldn't if i were you because almost 100k on a one use item isn't worth it, even though I get that much on a good day. Shouldn't paint brushed be multiple use? Make people buy paint instead. ;)

Oooh! Now I understand why my pet is unhappy !

but that can't be! that would just be TOO mean. plus i remember reading something in the editorial about the roo island merry-go-round and how it helps avoid the blue RE.

i am paranoid about my pet turning blue! i was lucky enough once to get a fountain faerie quest--i doubt i'll be that lucky twice. :(

Mon Jul 26, 2004 3:14 pm

If they made the RE a grey one then people will start starving their pets and making them unhappy just to get that RE :(

Mon Jul 26, 2004 3:25 pm

My pets are all painted to the colors I wanted them to be. I dun want that RE. :o *run off to find their favourite toy in SDB*

edit: funny, my Shoryu was in an extremely happy mood. After playing with the Blue Poogle Toy, he is delighted. My Draik was happy, now he is joyful. My Zafara was ...(I forgot) he is delighted too.

Hmm be patient when zapping. And on the bright side, while you wait, your pet's stats will be upped.

I believe you have to get to lvl 10 before you're safe from that one

Yeah, I've also heard that it doesn't matter what their happiness level is. My friend got the RE and her pet was "joyful". Just in case though, I feed my pets smiley neggs.

Well that's pretty disturbing.
I remember the announcment about that Random Event leading us to believe that it was more of a punishment for people who didn't keep their pets happy. Not something that would be a terror to those upstanding neopians who are good to their pets.

Hmm, if your friend got that RE with a joyful pet, then there is something not right with it. I agree with B, that RE should really only affect pets who aren't being taken care of, not people who do all the right things and keep their pets healthy, happy and fed.

As far as the RE turning pets grey instead of blue...first, I agree with Azzie, people will start neglecting their pets, giving them broken toys and feeding them awful things so they can get the RE (not a good thing). I know that when a pet is unhappy now, the pet shows as unhappy or crying on your lookup. Maybe they should make it so the pet looks unhappy on your pet description.

And the price of the grey pb would probably drop. Part of the whole grey pet thing is that it's a rarer, more expensive color.

Personally, I don't like the grey pets. I don't want to look at the Neopets version of ziggy. All the grey pets need is a storm cloud sitting over their heads constantly raining on them!

Oh the lab ray? We are not friends right now! At least once a week my lab pet goes back down to level 1. All I've gotten for weeks is stat increase/decrease. If the defense points get raised (they're dismal right now, but hp is up to 83), my current lab pet is going up for adoption.
