Welcome to PPT!
I got lucky and got it after only a few refreshes. But it is random and having to refresh A LOT is common. Just keep trying.

So to sum this up:
For under tournament 11:
The number of tiles you play has to be within +-1 of the tournament #.

For tournament 11+:
The total number of tiles played (yours plus the opponents) has to be within +-2 of the tournament #.
or
The number of tiles you play has to be within +-1 of the tournament # /2.

I think your theory is incorrect, unless it's randon once you meet one of these scenerios or it is not obtainable untill a certian Tournament level.

Yes, it is random once you meet those conditions. I stated that in this post. But now that you mention it, I should probably edit the initial post to include that as well.

What score do you need to get from the king to get the jester avatar? I made him laugh with the peophin joke and got a 625 out of 1000, but no avatar, so I'm guessing the score is higher?

I have scored 811 with the peophin joke from the Jester TCG and not gotten it.

About PetPet avatars and the petpet lab ray:

I have what started out as a snowbunny, but it's now it's been zapped into some wierd thing. Will I get the snowbunny av after i've had it long enough?

And, if I have a petpet zapped into something else, will that count? like my poppit gets zapped into a huggy, when it's been a huggy long enough, will I get the av?

You won't get the snowbunny av unless the petpet is currently a snowbunny when it is over 365 days. If it is zapped into something else (an avatar petpet) and is old enough to achive that avatar, it will count.

The age resets when it is detached.

People loan aged petpets by swapping the pet they're attached to through the pound. It's very risky.

I hate to clutter up the thread, but my old post was getting rather messy from edits. Here is a more concise version of what we know so far about the Master Vex Avatar:
This quote was in the Neopian Times Editorial. I see it as a challenge to figure out exactly what the requirements for this avatar are.

TNT, can you make it where you can go back to tournament 1 on cellblock, most game avatars are hard to get, true. but dang this is just crazy, at least on flash games it dosnt just keep getting harder and harder to the point where you cant play it anymore, thats just crazy. it bugs about 30% of the people that play and arnt lucky couse you made the avatar random, i mean why does it have to be "SUPER HARD" AND "random". dosnt make it fair one bit for us unlucky ones. ~ mystic_fever
We will look into a reset feature, however the avatar is not random. Not random at all. From what we've seen, not one person has actually figured out the real trick to getting the avatar. It may seem random, but it's not by any means. I think it's the only one we've ever really stumped people with. *cackle*

So to sum this up:

I also noticed that with the first set, where the number of tiles played is within +-1 of the Tournament number, the number of total tiles is within +-2 of the tournament number plus the number of tiles played.

For now, it appears to be random, once you’ve met the conditions above. I've purposely lost and lost and lost on tournament 11 trying for the avie and still haven't gotten it.

There must be something else we are missing.

According to a member of TNT, this avatar is practically impossible to solve. The program for awarding it was designed by the programmer of the game. But some of the great minds here at PPT have encouraged me to keep at it, so please keep those screenies coming! There must be a method to this madness somewhere.....
