No New Moderators?!
Written by: Nessa
Recently there was an announcement made to stamp out all of the gossip about moderator applications opening soon. The general feedback from the members was that we trusted the administrators to know what was best for PPT. Here’s what NeoPet_online, Tymaporer, and PuddingofEvil had to say on the subject.
---
How do you feel about it?
:NeoPet_online:
I was distraught. I cried for days on end.
::Tymaporer::
I feel weird. The weird part is that I don’t really mind. I know I would’ve minded a whole lot back in the day. I’m sure some of you remember how obsessed I used to be with becoming a mod… I even wrote songs about it. *cringes*
:::PuddingofEvil:::
I used to be a mod back in the day and I really enjoyed it. I'm a little disappointed that more PPTers won't get the chance to moderate the forums because it was such a great experience for me.
Do you think this is a mistake?
:NeoPet_online:
Not really, but they shouldn't have excited all of us as much as they did.
::Tymaporer::
A mistake? No. I think we’re doing fine with our mods. Mod apps shouldn’t be held just for the sake of holding them. If we have good mods, why would they need applications?
:::PuddingofEvil:::
The logic behind this decision makes sense: the staff turnover rate is fairly low at the moment.
Are you disappointed that mod apps won't be happening anytime soon?
:NeoPet_online:
Yes. I've been wanting to be a mod for forever and a day. I mean ever since I joined this great community, waaaaay back when Kym first opened the forums, and fell in love with it the moment I joined. I've gained a lot of friends since then, including Tasha, Amber, Kym, and all of the podcasters, so nothing would've made my experience here at the forums more than the possibility of being able to take care of it and make sure everything went well.
::Tymaporer::
Not really. It’s fun to try and picture friends555’s reaction though…(my old username, for the confused newer-than-me-bies.)
:::PuddingofEvil:::
I understand the logic behind it, and I can't fault the decision. However, 2-3 years is a long time to wait. There will be loads of PPTers joining in that time frame that would make excellent moderators, and I am fairly disappointed that they won't get a chance until 2008/9.
If you were a moderator, what is one thing you would want to do?
:NeoPet_online:
Help this community be even better than it already is. By just helping new users find that handy edit button, I can help this community be better.
::Tymaporer::
Establish justice; insure domestic tranquillity… I don’t know if I’d make any changes. I guess I’d just want to help. Sometimes it’s hard to resist backseat modding… I haven’t seen many reasons to do so lately, which is probably why they’re not hiring front-seat mods.
:::PuddingofEvil:::
Well, the thing I miss most about modding is talking to PPTers who had questions or needed help. I had a lot of fun with that, and I made some good friends.
Do you think the staff is missing anything on PPT?
:NeoPet_online:
Not at all, they're a great team, and in some ways I am sort of part of it, I mean I'm part of the Podcasting crew, right?
::Tymaporer::
Sanity. But then again, aren’t we all?
What are some words of acknowledgment you can give to the current PPT staff?
:NeoPet_online:
You guys make this community even better than what it is, even if some of the users here disagree.
::Tymaporer::
When waiting for mod apps, people tend to overlook how smoothly things are going as they are. I don’t see any problems around here. Awesome job. Keep it up.
:::PuddingofEvil:::
You’ve been working hard on the forums for a long time now, and you're doing an excellent job. Don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise.

At the beginning of October, the entire PPT world was turned upside down, all around the world members were sighted with dropped jaws, some jumping up and down yelling hallelujah, others too shocked to say anything at all. That’s right folks, Moderator Applications had opened. We never thought that Jasujo was capable of such a mean and dirty trick, but it appears that no one is safe from the curse of the administration. The curse of tricking PPTers that is! I PMed NeoPet_online, Tymaporer, and PuddingofEvil again to update the article. Here's what they had to say about all of this trickery.
What was your reaction when mod apps actually opened?
:NeoPet_online:
I was flabbergasted, surprised, enthralled... AND UBER-EXCITED! I applied as soon as I saw the topic. It was very exciting.
::Tymaporer::
I was shocked that I hadn't seen it coming. I would've caught it within seconds if it hadn't been so long.
:::PuddingofEvil:::
I wasn't too surprised. I had started suspecting that something was up about a week before. Come on, have we ever had a mod application cycle start without some of these terribly...fun...jokes from the admins?
Do you think that new mods are actually needed?
:NeoPet_online:
Well, you know, with the addition of new members everyday, especially during plots, the site gets kind of wacky, so the extra help would totally come in handy.
::Tymaporer::
The admins would know better than I do. Personally, I haven't seen much need, but I don't know...my guess is that the mods are feeling overworked or something.
:::PuddingofEvil:::
Couldn't hurt. I like it when new mods are picked; it's terribly fun to see all the new moderators get started. I'm really thrilled that there's going to be some new moderators getting a chance to learn the ropes.
Did you ever believe Jasujo was capable of such trickery?
:NeoPet_online:
She's a sly one, that Jas...
::Tymaporer::
I never suspected. I suppose once you become an admin, you automatically turn evil... or maybe it's a requirement. *shrugs* They need their laughs.
:::PuddingofEvil:::
If it had been any other admin, I would have known it was a trick immediately. She fooled me for some time...but I did eventually guess.

Well there you have it, thanks to NeoPet_online, Tymaporer, and PuddingofEvil for their time and input. It's well appreciated. Also I want to just say good luck to everyone that applied to be a moderator, I have good feelings about this batch.
‘Til next time - nessa
