Sactors: What Entertainment Has Come To

Written by: Ammer

Lately, we have seen many stars switch from singing to acting, or vice versa. From Jennifer Lopez to Lindsay Lohan, we're seeing a brand new age of "sacting" (Singing/Acting). The one question which boggles everyone's mind is: can these sactors possibly do both? Wait, of course they can! However, can they do it well?

Throughout this article you'll see various comments made by various sactors and various PPTers. However, let's start off with the most famous of all sactors: Hilary Duff.

Hilary Duff truly shined when her show, 'Lizzie McGuire' debuted on the Disney Channel. The show was aimed mostly for girls around 8-12, and did amazingly well. It even had it's own movie, 'The Lizzie Mcguire Movie'. Due to Hilary's rise in fame, she left the show to pursue her fashion line, acting career and newly found singing career. After singing various songs from 'The Lizzie Mcguire Movie', Hilary Duff launched a singing career which sold very well. Soon enough, Ms. Duff's career soared into many film roles and a brand new album.

But the question is, can she actually act or sing?

Here is what Hilary has to say about her music and acting career,

"They're [Acting/Singing] such different feelings. When I'm on tour, I'm in a new city every single night, and the energy and the crowds and the kids and the screaming and them knowing every single word of my music and my being onstage is such an energetic feeling, with a big payoff. Working on a movie, things are a little more slower paced. But sometimes if I'm in the middle of touring, I'll be like, 'Man, I really wish that I was working on a movie right now.' Or if I'm working on a movie, I'll be like, 'Oh, I wish that I was touring right now.' I just love them both so much,"

Here is what some PPTers have to say,

"I don't enjoy watching or listening to her, but at least she's been able to keep a decent public image, unlike Lindsay Lohan."- Fiddelysquat

"Actress, yes, singer, NO!"- Twinkle

My opinion: Hilary Duff can sing to an extent. However, after that "extent", her voice must be computerized. Her acting isn't very good either. She is slowly beginning to become a better actress, but this should've been modified before she got the role of "Lizzie" in "Lizzie McGuire".

Next, we shall talk about the lipsynching pop princess Ashlee Simpson.

Ashlee Simpson started her career on the hit series, "7th Heaven" where she played one of the main roles. After the success of her sister, Jessica Simpson's, singing career, Ashlee began her own singing career. Her song, "Pieces of Me", became a huge hit, and she became one of the most loved teen singers overnight. Ashlee later released a song, entitled "Shadow", which kept her career soaring. However, one performance at SNL (Saturday Night Live) led to Ashlee's career crashing down (not really, but close). Based on that performance, Ashlee's respect from various artists such as Avril Lavigne, and her own fans, wore down.

And the question truly is, can she sing or act?

Based on her fathers inquiry,

"Just like any artist in America, she has a backing track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national television. No one wants to hear that."- Joe Simpson [Ashlee's father]

I doubt it.

And based on various PPTers,

"Saying she can't sing doesn't mean I'm being rude. I'm just stating a fact."- Optimus

"I don't think she's particularly talented in either profession. Her voice is mediocre (absolutely no vocal range to speak of), and her acting is still strongly reminiscent of her days on the campy, overacted Lizzie McGuire show."- Fiddelysquat

I highly doubt it.

My opinion: Ashlee Simpson cannot act or sing. I believe her acting is terrible, and the only way she can sound good when singing is... Lipsyncing.

In conclusion, it seems that sactors are looked down upon, based on various opinions gathered throughout PPT and the media. However, if they can pull it off, all the power to them. Let's just hope that the newer generation of sactors are much more talented...in more than one area.

Until next time, I'm Ammer.
