Plot summary
A mini-plot based on the Park was released on September 4, 2008. Each of the six missions will involve users accomplishing tasks to safely retrieve a petpet from portals connecting Petaria and Neopia. The plot is available only in English.

Mission 1
Mission 1 was released on September 4, 2008. Players had to go through a maze in the caves of Terror Mountain. If they take a wrong turn, they will encounter Snowbeasts. At the end, they will reach the portal, and retrieve a Drym.

Mission 2
Mission 2 was released on September 9, 2008. To complete this mission, players had to rotate a special stone, called the Moonlight Opal, so that it refracted the moonlight from a nearby window onto three special markings. After all three markings were bathed in moonlight, a portal opened revealing a Hifflo.

Mission 3
Mission 3 was released on September 16, 2008. Yurius has opened numerous portals. The player had to equalize the magnetic field and shut down all the incorrect portals.
At the end, the player would find a Pinixy

Mission 4
Mystery Island - Kassegat
*...to be added...

Mission 5
Haunted Woods - Oukin
*...to be added...

Mission 6
Maraqua - Dipni
*...to be added...

Trivia
*As of September 2008, there are 6 items featuring each of the 6 new petpets. These items can be obtained from the Toy Chest.
*The 5th mission makes reference to the Tale of Woe plot when the caretaker gives Mick the shovel he says, "Oh no! More gravedigging! My arms are still tired from a couple of years ago..."
Yurius is a Skunk Kyrii that got fired from either Petpet Park or the Petpet Protection League for Not following office rules. When he left out of his anger he stole some equipment from them. He also makes Kaylee, Deckar, and Mick take a "test" to try to prove he was a better agent than them.

Petpet Park plot
Mission 1
*At Terror Mountain, Kaylee found some of the stolen equipment.

Mission 2
*In Shenkuu, Yurius' foot and hand can be seen as he runs out of the Moonlight Opal's temple. His face is also reflected in the Opal as he is running out.

Mission 3
*In Faerieland it is beleived that Yurius is the one who opened the numerous portals to random places and things all over Neopia. When the agents arrive, Yurius is no where to be seen.

Mission 4
*On Mystery Island, Yurius found the portal and opened it. He took the Kassegats deep in the temple on the island and hid them, forcing Kaylee, Mick, & Deckar to solve a series of traps and find the Kassegats. When the agents finally find the Petpets, Yurius is gone.

Mission 5
*In the Haunted Woods, Yurius once again opened and closed the portal to Petaria, taking the Oukins away. He hid the Petpets in one of the many tombs in the Haunted Woods, leaving behind riddles to confuse the agents. Since Yurius had already left the woods, the agents never really see him in the mission.

Mission 6
*In Maraqua Yurius found the Dipnis and closed the portal. When the agents arrived he trapped them in an underwater capsule that they could only escape by figuring out a puzzle quickly enough. Yurius also trapped himself in one of these capsules. The agents escape first and get the Dipnis.

Comic: Chapter 7
* Yurius had already written his answer down on a sheet of paper. However, the ink had washed away in the water. After the agents get him out of the capsule, Mick lightly reprimands him for not using a pencil, and he has a flashback of when he was in the PPL, remembering when he took the agent exam, and he could not persuade Professor Patrice or Lindesen to pardon him for using a pen instead of a pencil.
Neopet Version 2 (or neopet v2, for short) was a computer program created by Dr. Frank Sloth that was supposed to be a replacement for neopets. When Sloth was defeted by the space faerie, however, the project was shelved.

In the bowels of the Virtupets Space Station, Neopet v2 turned itself on, asking for a doctor and repeadtly asking the question "Don't you want to play with me?"

Two days later Neopet v2 watched four neopets, Billy, Sarah, Karai, and Helena, through a security camera, and overheard them talking about how they had no friends. Neopet Version 2 decided that it would be their friend.

As the four neopets entered Virtulift 4, the lift went pass their level and jammed. Neopet v2 appeared on a monitor in the lift and told the neopets that they were its friends now.

The next day neopet v2 asked the kids if they were "Ready for another game", and the game Kau Korral came up on the monitor Neopet v2 was on, and all the kids complained.

The following night V2 told Billy to 'Solve this equation' and neopet v2 typed out a very long stream of numbers and symbols. Billy guessed and said 2, and the computer announced that he was wrong, and zapped him with a bolt of green electricity.

On the 9th day of Storing, 8:45 pm, Neopet Version 2 was deactivated, and the kids escaped.

Neopet Version 2 was a puzzle plot run in November 2001, where four Neopets were trapped in a Virtupets' elevator by a digital pet, Neopet Version 2, an abandoned project created by Dr. Sloth to replace Neopets when he conquered Neopia.

The plot involved the user searching for clues to find the four programmers who worked on the programme in order to obtain the deactivation codes needed to shut down Neopet Version 2. There were ten codes and each programmer had two. The final two codes were hidden inside the malicious programme itself, and could only be extracted by using several key questions, found in the plot.

Plot Summary
Plot Progression
On the 5th November, a forgotten computer programme deep inside the Space Station flickered to life, asking after a 'Doctor' and requesting its 'first lesson'.

That evening, Billy and his sister Sarah, Usuls who moved around constantly due to their parents careers, were appearing on Better Than You, the most fantabulous game show in Neopia. Although they never managed to make friends, moving about as they did, they did become incredibly good at video games, and a score of 1,260 in Meerca Chase won them the competition. Their prize: a week-long holiday on the Virtupets Space Station.

At the Station, Billy and Sarah met Karai and Helena, a green Kyrii and a pink Gelert. On the second day of their trip, which they were enjoying greatly, the four friends were in Grundos Cafe, talking about their lives at home. Sarah commented on how she had no friends at school, and the others agreed they, too, would like more friends.

Watching through a security camera, the sentient computer programme, Neopet Version 2, listened to their conversation. Neopet Version 2 had no friends. The programme wondered if these four pets would be its friend.

Billy and Sarah, with their two new friends, entered Virtulift 4, and pressed the key for floor 3. The elevator shot past their floor, plunging down through levels in the Station, then jamming, the screen reading the current floor number only convey gibberish. Billy hit the emergency key, but the lift remained stuck, despite the alarm bells ring through Virtupets. A monitor in the lift light up with the Neopets Version 2 programme. It declared its hostages its friends, and told them they would be in the lift forever. Neopets Version 2 wanted to play.

On Neopia, a letter was sent to Dr. Sloth, the creator of the Space Station. Although he was Neopia's enemy, he was the only one who could help. He replied, although was far from helpful. He explained that the programme was an abandoned project of his, designed to replace Neopets, and that ten codes were needed to deactivate it. Dr. Sloth, although saying he could shut the programme down, refused to. He did, however, explain how the deactivation would work: the ten codes needed to be inputted in the correct order into a deactivation console, hidden on the Station. The four programmers who worked on NPv2 knew two codes each, and the final two were hidden inside the programme itself. Sloth went on to mention that interrogating the first programmer would be useless - his mouth would be stuffed with "that vile purple vegetable he craves so much".

With the air in the lift running out, and Neopet Version 2 taking a violent attitude to its captives when they failed to solve its puzzles, almost the whole of Neopia were rushing to track down the programmers. Finally, with only 3 1/4 hours left before air ran out, the programme shut down, the Virtulift started to move, and air began ventilating once again.

The four children were given a hero's welcome and treated to as much food as they could eat, and tickets to come to the Station again any time. Billy and Sarah, however, were more interested about what was going on in Neopia: after their adventure, they would be the most popular pets around.

Mayor Thumburt was capable of being fought in the Battledome from November 17, 2006, to November 19 (in any of the three forms he appeared in). Users needed to visit Neovia and receive a challenge from him before they could face him in any of his forms. Fought in the Stone Dome, users across the world needed to band together to take down his large HP amount, due to the face he could not be defeated by any one Neopet. Mayor Thumburt's total HP was lowered by the amount of damage each Neopet was capable of doing to him.

Regardless of what Battledome Equipment used during a battle against him (including a full blocker such as Thick Smoke Bomb), Mayor Thumburt automatically gives a Neopet with over 800 HP of damage, even if he doesn't use any weapons. With weapons, he is capable of giving well over 1000 HP of damage with such weapons as Pirate Captains Cutlass, Ghostkerbomb, Sword Of Skardsen, an assortment of Battle Dung, and his signature weapons (Mayors Walking Cane, Mayors Top Hat, and Mayor Throwing Stars). He was capable of freezing Neopets at any time with a H4000 Helmet in his first form , and Magical Marbles of Mystery in his final two. Not only that, he had a Jade Scorchstone, Prismatic Mirror and Thyoras Tear, capable of healing or blocking all damage, rendering all a Neopet's efforts useless. He could also use Berserk and the Sponsor Ability Scorch.

The 1st form of Mayor Thumburt was defeated around 9:27 PM NST November 17, 2006, just hours after his release.
The Apothecary was a shop in the Haunted Woods created on October 24, 2000, which has since become retired on March 20, 2002. Before it was closed, it sold Mystic Mushrooms, which users could use to boost their Neopets stats.

The term Plot refers to events on Neopets or stories in Neopia in which users can participate for prizes or experience something different from normal Neopets play. Plots first began to appear on August 15, 2000, with Arrival of Virtupets.

Overview
In the ever growing world of Neopets, it's through plots that it's expanded the most, by introducing new characters, worlds and facts/history of Neopia which each new plot. There are many different examples of plots in Neopets, but the basic premise behind every plot is the same: a story taking place in Neopia is told, and users can participate in some way to receive prizes. Participation is different for each type of plot, which can include puzzle solving, fighting in the Battledome or a combination of both. Sometimes participation can only happen at certain times of the plot as well, either while the plot is being presented, or at the climax of the story.

One of the more popular participation methods in plots is fighting in the Battledome, in which users fight a series of special 1-Player Challengers for points to be collected for prizes. Sometimes there is an official "war", in which users join with the army of a warring party in the story to fight against another, or even choose opposite sides to fight a users opposite side.

Plots almost always have lasting impressions on the world of Neopia, the most common of which being new worlds for users to explore. Characters new and old are also more defined by plots, and are the driving force by how we understand them. Depending on the world in which the plot takes place, characters make reappearances now and then, the most common of which being Dr. Frank Sloth, the most notorious villain in Neopia.

The majority of plots today are presented through a comic book format, yet plots of the past have included animations, plain images with text, and sometimes no images at all, leaving users to use their imagination as to what is happening in the story.
Gilly is a young Usul girl who first stared in The Castle of Eliv Thade. Some time later, she appeared as one of the main characters in the plot, The Tale of Woe, for which she got a redesign.

In the Castle of Eliv Thade game, she is lost in the woods and accidentally stumbled into the castle seeking shelter, but is trapped when the iron door slams behind her. She must solve word puzzles and claim Thade's artifacts to put his spirit to rest and escape.

Plot summary
The Tale of Woe
:Main Article: The Tale of Woe

Gilly was lost in the Haunted Woods (again) and came upon a travelling Gypsy Camp, where a pink Elephante gypsy told her The Legend of Neovia. The next morning, she found a path she went through before, and discovered Neovia. While walking through its streets, she found a burnt down house, and investigating it found a mysterious silver locket. Curious about it, Gilly went to the Deserted Fairgrounds to ask the carnival workers if they knew anything about it. The responses varied from worker to worker but she did not get any definitive information.

Returning to Neovia, she investigated a path into the woods that lead her to Sophie's shack. Gilly entered warily and asked if Sophie knew anything about the cursed town. Sophie, annoyed, merely said that there were a lot of myths associated with the Woods. When Gilly said that she had seen the city, and had a locket she was trying to investigate, Sophie snatched the charred relic and demanded Gilly to leave, lest she turn her into a stink beetle like she should have done to begin with.

Gilly ran from the house into the rain, and discovered a cave. Taking shelter in it, she was pursued by a monstrous, shadowy creature who she managed to trap using an assortment of broken furniture and some rotten food as bait. The muscular, disfigured Gelert rose from the trap and chased Gilly from the cave, and crashed through the woods after her to Sophie's shack. She pounded on Sophie's door, imploring for help, and when Sophie came out to send Gilly away, she suddenly recognised the beast as her brother: Bruno.

Bruno told his sister what had happened to him, and Sophie explained that Ilere took her to the shack and vanished, and that when she returned to Neovia a few days later, it was deserted. It remained deserted until Halloween, where it was bustling with spectral, unreal and strangely vacant forms the inhabitants. Every Halloween, they reappeared there. Sophie had worked ever since then on a cure, but to no avail.

Gilly realized that this must be the price the Spirit of Slumber executed for his services. Sophie and Bruno did not know this of the legend, and encouraged by Gilly, they went to find Ilere, in the hope that she knew more about the Spirit.

After travelling through the woods for some time and solving a Ghost Meepit lock puzzle, the trio entered Ilere's home and told her what they knew of Neovia's curse. Ilere claimed that the Spirit has great power and that they should abandon this mission before they got hurt. Bruno, enraged at this, ran at Ilere, who fought back with a blast of magic. Sophie separated the two with a spell of her own, and Bruno complained that with all Ilere's power she just sits back and does nothing about Neovia, and left Sophie to fend for herself.

Ilere admits that Sophie is stronger than she suspected, and tells Sophie what she knows of the Spirit, but suggests they seek out older denizens of the wood - those that have been there far longer than she, and would know more of him. They part with Ilere's wish to them that they, for their own sake, do not succeed.

Gilly suggests they do as Ilere mentioned, and seek out other habitants of the Woods. She suggests the Brain Tree, but Sophie refuses on account of a "bad experience" with him. When Gilly insists, she receives the brunt of a blast of magic. Bruno complains that Gilly is right, and Sophie had to overcome her grudge. However, when they talked to the Brain Tree, he said he needed to know when the Spirit died before he gave them his name. Gilly takes them to the Esophagor, to the protest of Sophie who had another "bad experience" with it, but the Esophagor requires the Spirits name to give a date of birth.

Gilly complains about the paradox, which prompts Sophie to mention that she can use a potion to identify the bones of the Spirit. When asked how they could know which grave to search, the answer is obvious: Bruno, Gilly and Sophie had to check every single grave in the Haunted Woods until they found a match. Gilly finally found the Spirit of Slumber's bone, but the headstone on the grave it came from was broken, so they could not find the name yet.

They decide that the best way to find the Spirit's name is to go to the Caretaker's house, look through the books storing the names and cross out everyone until they're left with one match. The Spirit's true name was Jubart Igig. Gilly comments that this could be an anagram of something, but then decided against it. This was probably a reference to her experiences in the Castle of Eliv Thade. Sophie slams the book shut, saying that the only way they can summon him is to have the Spirit inhabit their body. Bruno says he'll do it, for Gilly was too small. After some potion mixing and testing, the Spirit of Slumber inhabited Bruno's body and led the way to Neovia. Gilly says that she hoped that they don't run into any werelupes, and Sophie says that werelupes are quite rare around Neovia. On the way, Sophie stares at her necklace, and Gilly comments that it's very pretty.

After ariving at Neovia, Gilly adds that Sophie would have to introduce her to her mother one they cure the town. Sophie commented that this might not work, but Gilly objects, saying that she knows they will. The Spirit of Slumber undoes his spell, then leaves Bruno's body, leaving him weak.

Looking quite frazzled, Gilly tries to get Sophie's attention. Sophie turns around just in time to see that the townspeople, including her family, were mutating past there cursed forms into even more monsterous forms. Gilly yelled that the Spirit of Slumber only undid his spell, and not the potion. Horrified, Sophie bolted out of neovia, leaving Gilly with Bruno. They try to run, but were surrounded by the mutated Neovians.

Mayor Thumburt pointed to them and said that they were the ones to blame, and the Neovians attacked. Bruno then spotes Mr. Krawley, at the edge of the mob. Seeing that he noticied him, Krawley ran. Bruno says he'll hold back the crowd, and Gilly runs ater him. While running, Krawley brings a couple of grave stones and then some trees to life, and Gilly defeted them with a shovel, probley left over from the grave digging.

Gilly finally catches up with Mr. Krawley and accuses him of selling the potions, then asking who he was, where Krawley revieled his name. He tells her thaat what she needs is inside of the building they where standing infront of, and Gilly objects him of lying, but Krawley tells her he led her to the house for a reson. Then zombies grouning for brains walk in to the courtyard, probley summond to life by Mr. Kawley. He talls her that the way is becoming blocked. Whearily, Gilly goes inside. Meanwhile, Bruno is being attacked by the neovians, and Sophie, returing back to her shack, begins mixing up a potion.
Trivia
On January 4, 2007, Gilly was featured in Better Than You, scoring 600 in Sophie's Stew. Prize was a Cauldron. ==How to play==
To begin a game, choose which difficulty level you wish to play. The harder the level, the more the payoff will be for winning! To play, you simply have to click on any of the neggs on the board. If you click on a Negg that does not have any bad neggs surrounding it, it will clear all of the surrounding neggs as well, up until it reaches a negg that does have a trap next to it. You may even get a bonus if you clear multiple neggs with one click!

If you click on a negg that does have a trap next to it, then it will display a number from 1 to 8, depending on how many of the surrounding neggs are traps. The higher the number, the more dangerous that area is to click in. If you click on a negg that has a trap, the Jackpot is reset back to 0 and you lose! To add or remove a flag, hold down the Control Key while clicking on the negg!

If you can successfully clear all of the neggs without clicking on any of the traps, you win all the points that have racked up in the Jackpot!

The Tale of Woe is a plot based in the Haunted Woods and entails the release of Neovia. It began on October 2, 2006, and finishing November 20, 2006 (designed to coincide with Halloween). The plot follows the travels of Gilly, who first appeared as the star of The Castle of Eliv Thade.

Plot summary
The gypsy camp
Deep within the Haunted Woods users happen upon a Gypsy Camp, where a Pink Elephante greets and warns them of the dangers of the woods - "[...] Trees and creatures roam the night, and they can swallow the unwary. It's no accident that so many legends and myths surround this place [...]" - and reads the user a story of Gilly, when she visited the Camp and heard the story of Neovia...

The Legend of Neovia
The Elephante began his tale of a family of Edmund and Alice, and their three children: sons Bruno and Reginald, and daughter Sophie (who the Elephante avoids mentioning until his story is almost over). They lived in Neovia, and had many troubles. Bruno sought the affection of Lily, but lacked the charm and strength to court her, and was not helped in his attempts by Oscar, Lily's current protective companion.

After Oscar hit Bruno for talking to Lilly, Bruno resigned to his fate but stumbled upon Mr. Krawley, who offered him a potion which would make all his troubles go away for only a few Neopoints. After drinking the potion, the very next day he was handsome, strong and much more presentable to Lily.

Edmund claimed Bruno was foolish to take such an action, complaining that one must work for success. However, when he was offered the potion by Mr. Krawley, he reluctantly took it to resolve the family's financial hardship. Like Bruno, the elixir worked and he became rich within the next few days. With the testimonials of Bruno and his father, word of the potions spread quickly. When Reginald took a potion as well, increasing his intelligence and knowledge, the popularity of the elixir was assured. Before long, everyone was taking the potions to have their wishes - such things as height, beauty and youth - granted with a single swig, and only the innocent, such as Sophie, refrained from drinking the potion.

The potion seemed to give everyone in Neovia happiness... but as the days passed, the effects of the potion continued to make their wishes more twisted. Edmund became suspicious of everyone, carefully guarding over his fortune. Bruno became a muscular, deformed monster. Reginald became lonely, seeking refuge in his books when people couldn't stand to talk to him and his great intellect. Curses like this spread to everyone who drank the potion, and the angry town joined together and searched for Mr. Krawley, only to find he had disappeared. They then decided to put the blame on the family which advertised the elixir, and attacked Edmund's home.

Bruno ran outside to distract the villagers while Reginald and Sophie sneaked out the back and ran for the woods. In the forest, they encountered Ilere, who said Sophie had no where else to go but in her care. Reginald refused such an action, but relented when Sophie went of her own free will, saying she felt safe with Ilere. Returning back to Neovia, Reginald saw Bruno being chased into the woods outside of town, and escorted his parents to an abandoned mansion on the other side of town, used in the past for games of hide-and-seek.

Bruno lost those chasing him in the forest, and when the towns people returned they attacked, determined for retribution. Suddenly, Mayor Thumburt stopped them all and said they must be cured before bring justice to those responsible. The Neovians summon The Spirit of Slumber, who cures them with magic, but at a terrible price...

The ruins of Neovia
The story ends and Gilly goes to sleep, and after a night's rest she sets out into the woods and stumbles upon Neovia itself. The small town is in ruins, but after looking through a burnt wreck of a house she found a strange silver locket hidden, with the picture inside decayed beyond recognition.

Gilly headed to the Deserted Fairground and took the locket to Lyanka, of the Cork Gun Gallery; Leeroy, of the Coconut Shy; Harker, of the Bagatelle stall; and Ssidney, of Ssidney's Scratch Cards. None of them knew who the owner was, although some seemed impressed with the metalwork and one mentioned they were quite popular a long time ago. Heading back to Neovia for more information, she discovers a path leading to a hut in the swampy part of the woods.

At the hut, Gilly met the adult Sophie, who snatched the locket and shouted for the Usul to leave and not to disturb her. Gilly ran off through the rain and took shelter in a cave. Inside, amongst strange, old artifacts, she was stalked by a dark creature. By arranging a mirror, a broken lamp post, and a chair around a pile of food for bait, Gilly managed to get the monster to eat some of the food, leap back from its own reflection, and stumble across the lamp post and into the chair, where it banged its head and fell into the moonlight, revealing itself to be the horribly disfigured Bruno.

Taking pity on Bruno for her actions, even though he was trying to scare her, Gilly approached him, only to be chased outside of the cave. Gilly ran all the way back to Sophie's hut, asking to be let in from the chasing Bruno, and Sophie answered the door angrily, but calmed into shock when she saw Bruno was alive. Exposition ensues as they related their stories: Bruno hid in a cave from the townspeople deep in the Haunted Woods, never daring to return to Neovia. Sophie went with Ilere to her now current home and was only given a chest which Ilere said contained all she needed to survive, and left her.

A few days after Sophie settled into the hut, she returned to Neovia only to find deserted buildings. Sophie returned several times in the weeks that followed, but there was no sign of what had happened to the residents until Halloween night, when she saw ghostly apparitions of the inhabitants living their lives. Sophie noticed the Neovian's faces were without emotion, working and moving in silence, and when she touched one of them, her hand went straight through the Neovian. Sophie concluded they were not physically there, and returned to her hut to work on a cure. The next day, however, the town was once again deserted. For ten years, Sophie revealed, she had been working to cure the Neovians on Halloween night, and had little else left to try.

Gilly, almost forgotten in the exchange, remembered the Gypsy Elephante's story and explained the Spirit of Slumber's involvement, realizing this must be the "terrible price" mentioned in the story - while the spirit restored them to their forms before their use of Mr Krawley's potion, they would be unable to enjoy their restoration. Sophie was sceptical it would help, but decides to ask Ilere for information. She was reluctant to bring Gilly along, but relents when Bruno asks her to come, providing Gilly doesn't get in the way (to which Gilly finished Sophie's spoken request before her).

Seeking the Spirit
Travelling deep into the Haunted Woods, the trio finally found Ilere's home after opening the gateway with the aid of Ghost Meepits. Sophie began to explain to Ilere the curse placed on Neovia, and was interrupted by an excited Gilly about the Spirit of Slumber and how they wanted him to reverse the spell on them. Ilere called them mad and said the spirit of Slumber was far too powerful, and told them to leave before they got hurt. Bruno then attacked Ilere in a rage, and while she defended herself with her magic Bruno got the upper hand. Before anything more developed, Sophie threw Ilere and Bruno apart with her magic.

When Sophie asked why Bruno attacked Ilere, he explained he could feel Ilere's great power, yet she did nothing to help Sophie during the years, help save Neovia ten years ago, and refused to even help now. Caught in a magical spell by Sophie, Ilere acknowledged who powerful she had become, and when prompted by Sophie told her the Spirit of Slumber was an ancient spirit of a Neopet who had died long ago, before she ever came to the Haunted Woods. She then said there were others in the Haunted Woods who would know more about the spirit than her. As the trio turned to leave, Ilere said to Sophie, "For your own sake, I hope you fail."

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter5_jf78siR7ks.gif
As Bruno complained about Ilere's lack of help, Gilly began to suggest they see the Brain Tree, who was one of the oldest residents of the Haunted Woods, to which Sophie immediately refused because she had a bad experience with it. Gilly began to drag her along, saying it wouldn't be so bad, to which Sophie blasted Gilly with her magic. Bruno scolded her, saying Gilly was only a little girl, and the Brain Tree may have the information they needed. Still feeling grumpy, Sophie apologized and went to the Brain Tree with them.

Upon asking, the Brain Tree said he would give the Spirit of Slumber's name if they told it when he died. Gilly immediately set off to see The Esophagor for the answer, and Sophie began to say how she had a bad experience with him as well, but stopped when Bruno and Gilly looked at her. When they came to the Esophagor, the Esophagor said he could only tell them when someone died, and the Spirit of Slumber never did. He said he would give the date if the trio could give him the Spirit's real name.

This angered Gilly, as it created a paradox: they needed the Spirit's name to know the date of his death, and the date to get his name. Sophie, however, said she could identify the remains of the Spirit of Slumber's if she used a special potion, finding his name on his gravestone. When Gilly asked how they would find the Spirit's grave, Sophie said they would dig up every grave in the Haunted Woods, to which Bruno and Gilly gulped in fear at the thought.

Seeking the Spirit's name
http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter2_d83kdw3e32.gif
The three heroes arrived at The Caretaker's Shack to find his indices had been stolen by an unknown thief. Without them they could not find and search all the graves of the Haunted Woods, so they searched for them and eventually found them in a maze (corresponding to the plot action in Fetch!), and had The Caretaker guide them through the gravesites.

Bruno dug up the graves while Gilly helped Sophie create and use potions on the bones unearthed one by one, until one of the bones tested glows, signifying if was of the Spirit of Slumber. Sophie excitedly asked which grave it came from, and Gilly pointed to a broken headstone which bore no name, to which Sophie cried out in frustration. Without much enthusiasm, they all realized the needed to go back to every single gravestone, marking off the legible names they found on the gravestones from the indices and have only one remaining name, it being the Spirit of Slumber's. Upon returning to the Caretaker's Shack however, he was furious they had dug up all the graves of the Haunted Woods and taken his indices, and chased them out. Realizing they needed to move more quietly through the graveyards because of the furious Caretaker, they set out writing off each name from the indices one by one.

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter7_2s9jsj83.gif
They eventually found the name Jubart Igig and they all returned to Sophie's shack where she read up on a ways to summon the Spirit of Slumber. After reading the proper spell, Sophie slammed the book and said it wouldn't work, explaining the only way to summon the Spirit of Slumber was for someone to drink it a special potion and allow him to inhabit their body. Bruno volunteered, to which Sophie objected, saying she didn't want to lose him again. But Bruno reasoned with her, pointing out Gilly was too small and she was needed to create the potion, making him the only choice to bring their family back.

Sophie began making potions, two of which Bruno drank and became really hairy and shrunk in size, but upon drinking the third potion, he dropped the flask to the floor and a sinister gaze was fixed upon his face, signifying he was possessed by the Spirit of Slumber. When asked why he was summoned, Sophie asked him to reverse the spell he placed on Neovia, to which he smiled and agreed.

Sophie and Gilly followed the possessed Bruno back to Neovia. Along the way, Sophie reassured Gilly werelupes weren't normally seen in the woods around Neovia, while Ginny reassured Sophie the town and her family would be cured as Sophie looked at the charred remains of the locket her mother gave her.

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter8_fo3wds43ls.gif
the Spirit of Slumber led them to Neovia's town square, and he raised his hands and said, "Let the spell be undone!" In an instant, the inhabitants of Neovia and Sophie’s family were restored to material form as Bruno fell unconscious. As Sophie tried to wake Bruno saying their family was cured, Gilly was trying to get her attention as she stared at the Neovians. Annoyed, Sophie turned around and watched in horror as the Neovians began to transform, realizing the Spirit of Slumber only reversed his spell and not the potion. They returned to their cursed forms and mutated even more monstrous, including her mother, father and brother. Sophie ran in horror at the sight, and Gilly and Bruno tried to chase after her, but were surrounded by the mutated Neovians.

Into the fray
Mayor Thumburt pointed to Gilly and Bruno, saying they were to blame for the way they were now, and the Neovians attacked. Bruno scanned the angry crowd and saw lurking at the edge Mr. Krawley. He began to run away after he was noticed, and Bruno urged Gilly to chase after him as he fought back the crowd. Gilly ran after Mr. Krawley into a graveyard, whose gravestones turned to life and attacked her. Grabbing a nearby shovel (perhaps left by a gravedigger), Gilly defeated all the gravestones, after which Mr. Krawley used his magic to bring the surrounding trees to life, which Gilly needed to defeat as well before continuing her chase of him.

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter10_di239dksi3.gif
Chasing Mr. Krawley to the front of Meepit Oaks, Gilly confronted him and he revealed himself as Mr. Krawley for the first time, but said it was not him she needed, but what was inside the asylum. Calling him a liar, Krawley said he led her there for a reason. Just then, Zombie Neopets moaning for brains walked into the courtyard, blocking escape. Krawley said she needed to make a decision, as the way out was closing, and Gilly hesitantly walked inside.

Meanwhile, Bruno fought against the crowd of Neovians being herded by Mayor Thumburt, and hid in a cellar when the danger became too great. From the safety of the cellar, he saw his parents cursing him, and mourned at the fact he couldn't help them.

Sophie ran all the way back to her shack, and on the inside finally collected herself and began to make a potion to cure Neovia, which she tested on her Meowclops who went through many side effects before becoming a safe potion. After completing the concoction she left for Neovia but couldn't help thinking there was something still missing.

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter13_ew832isu3i.gif
Back at Meepit Oaks, Gilly walked through the corridors of the vacant asylum and fought off zombies and pieced together the mystery of what happened there, eventually finding an unwilted, glowing purple flower in a jail cell containing a long dead nurse named Lucy. Taking the flower and sneaking past the zombies on the outside, Gilly ran into Sophie who saw the flower and realized it was the final ingredient of the potion. Placing the flower in the potion, they set off to pour the contents into the well of Neovia.

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/towchapter15_so329s3lk2.gif
At Neovia, the residents were waiting for her, but she blasted away all of them except Mayor Thumburt, who told her to go home and pretend nothing happened, sparing herself the heartache she would feel if the cure failed. Saying she would take her chances, she blasted the Mayor with her magic, who easily deflected it and hit her to the ground. Bruno pounced upon Mayor Thumburt and pulled him off her, realizing he was much stronger than he appeared. All three of them gathered together and fought against Mayor Thumburt, who began to mutate and become more powerful, until he was turned into a Moquot by Sophie.

With the Mayor finally defeated, Sophie urged Bruno to drink the potion, who instead told her to pour the contents into the well to cure Neovia. Returning the next day after all the residents had a drink from the well, they were greeted warmly by everyone, including Sophie and Bruno's family. Returning to the well, Bruno quickly drank from its waters, only to realize he was cursed too long. This didn't bother him, however, as he was used to his form now. Edmund rejoiced in having the family together again, but Sophie said she didn't feel home in Neovia anymore, and was used to being alone. As she bid them goodbye, Gilly saw Mr. Krawley smiling as he watched from a dark alley, who then disappeared in a puff of purple smoke.

The end
With the Tale of Woe finished, the Pink Elephante bid the children who were listening good night, and said it was best not to wander into the woods after dark, as you never knew what would swallow the unwary. Later, when users and their Neopets came to visit the Elephante again, they find he had disappeared, and when they asked a Red Wocky gypsy where the Elephante who told The Tale of Woe was, she said there was never an Elephante part of their camp.

Plot participation
Plot participation put the user in the role of the lead characters of the plot, helping them in certain situations as the plot progressed.

For an in-depth look at what users needed to do to complete the plot, see The Tale of Woe plot completion.

Quest inventory
This plot brought in a feature called the Quest Inventory, where items discovered in the plot are stored. Items in this inventory cannot be used, traded, or stolen in the way items in the Inventory can, like previous plot quest items in the past.
At the same time, the official plot solution was released.

Overall plot points were not given until March 2, 2007, when a new trophy for a User Lookup was given showing the total number of points given based on the overall participation in the plot. Visiting Sophie's Shack awarded the user with the Tale of Woe sidebar theme and the Tale of Woe - Krawley avatar, providing the user had participated in the plot.

Additionally, a selection of 32 prizes was provided for users to 'purchase' with their plot points. 'Spending' the points did not result in the player using the points that had earned them their rank. Most of the plot prizes were references to the activities of or user responses to the plot.
*The plot appears to be based off the book/movie Something Wicked This Way Comes.
*When part 3 of the plot was released on October 13, 2006, the new section of the plot came upon many database issues (such as Ghost Meepits appearing in the users plot inventory at random), requiring The Neopets Team to move the database, replacing all pages relating to the plot with the following texts (as the errors were happening more than once)
*Sophie's saying of how she had a "bad experience" with the Brain Tree and Esophagor probably refers to the Brain Tree Quest, which a user must complete tasks for the Esophagor to fulfil the Brain Tree's request. The rewards for completing the quest are almost always lower in value than the cost it is to complete them, which is probably why Sophie is upset about them.
*On October 23, 2006 around 6:25 NST, the following message appeared when any user tried to access the graveyards or any other related pages along with an image of a glowing bone...<blockquote>heavenest found the Spirit of Slumber's bones!<br><br>The bones glow with an unearthly silver light.</blockquote>It is currently believed the user heavenest found the bones, and as such there is no reason to continue searching graves. About 1 hour after this, users who roamed around the Haunted Woods received the following Random Events, with different Ghost Neopets:
It's unknown what will come from this, and what the ghosts of the defiled graves will do in the Haunted Woods.
*There are considerable differences between the plot's information and the flavor text of the Haunted Woods Expansion Set for the Neopets TCG; while characters, names and settings remain constant, the "plague" mentioned on the card, "Curing the Plague" (which depicts a slightly-altered Spirit of Slumber, who appears to be a mutant Lupe with an earring) is nowhere to be found. Likewise, Ilere is a Villain in the TCG, but a reluctant aide in the plot. Also most notable is the lack of a TCG card of Gilly.
*The Caretaker in the plot bears a resemblance to The Foreman of the Lost Desert Plot and Altador Plot, the difference being The Caretaker is a blue Yurble, while the The Foreman is an Orange Yurble.
*Upon the closing of the name-finding activity, a dialogue appeared at the Caretaker's Shack in which Gilly revealed the name to Sophie: Jubart Igig. "Doesn't sound like most of the other names we found. Maybe it's an anagram of something...Nah." This is an inside joke reference to the game The Castle of Eliv Thade which Gilly originated from.
*The user marina_87 is credited to defeating the 3rd form of Mayor Thumburt, receiving 100,076 points to her battle score.

Sophie commented that this might not work, but zgilly objects, saying that she knows they will.

While running, Krawley brings a couple of grave stones to life, and Gilly defeted them with a shovle, probley left over from the grave digging.

Trivia
On January 4, 2007, Gilly was featured in Better Than You, scoring 600 in Sophie's Stew. Prize was a Cauldron. Quoted as saying...<blockquote>Ever since I helped Sophie to rid Neovia of that curse she's been letting me assist in the making of her stew. Well, at least occasionally, anyway... and only if I don't speak at all while doing so -- but still! I'm really good at it, so if you want to prove yourself to be a better assistant, then you're going to have a rough time!</blockquote>
*Gilly is featured in 3 items: collectable card, plushie, and book
===Victory speech:=== The faeries shrink back to their normal size. "You were a fool to try and defeat us!"

===Defeated Speech:=== The Faeries each shrink to their normal size as they die, and suddenly their tiny bodies all vanish in an eyeblink. Balthazar shakes his head and sniffs the air, as the trees around you begin to change and wither. Within moments, Balthazar's grove has become its normal, evil self, no longer enchanted by happiness.

They decide that the best way to find the Spirit's name is to go to the caretakers house, look through the books storing the names and crossing out everyone until they're left with one match. The Spirit's true name was Jubart Igig. Gilly coments that this could be an anagram of somthing, but then dicided against it. This was probley a memery from her experences with the castle of Eliv Thade.

Balthazar is a Lupe bounty hunter who captures Faeries with magical bottles, selling them for huge profits. Balthazar was abandoned by his family on the edge of the Haunted Woods as a child. He crawled through the twisted forest hungry and thirsty until he came upon a clearing where the purple lights of Dark Faeries could be seen. Asking for help, they laughed started picking up stones and twigs, throwing them at Balthazar as he ran away yelping and crying. He somehow managed to survive in the woods after living many years alone, and he never forgot what the Faeries did to him that day.

Plot Summary
NeoQuest II
:Main Article: II
spoiler
It was believed Balthazar cast a spell with the Spider Grundo and Hubrid Nox (despite the fact they would never work together) which kept the sun up over the Haunted Woods. When Rohane and party come upon Balthazar at his grove, they find it bright and cheery unlike the rest of the Haunted Woods, and find Balthazar actually liking the presence of Faeries. After visiting The Brain Tree, Rohane finds out The Four Faeries which Balthazar claims are his friends placed a curse on him, and needed to be defeated.

After killing the Faeries, Balthazar and his grove return to normal, and assumes Hubrid Nox is behind his and the Spider Grundo's curse. When Rohane asked why he didn't come with them, he said he needed to take a bath to wash the smell of Faerie off him.

Balthazar will challenge users via Random Event at the Deserted Fairground. He is fought in Stone Dome. Lacking any healing skills, he makes up for it with a large hit point count, making for a lengthy battle.
Nurse lucy
Nurse lucy is the head nurse in The Meepit Oaks Sanitorium for the Psychologically Fragile. She is thought to be a pink-eyed, orange-haired red acara wearing an old-fashioned nurse's hat, with a green cross on it. She was introduced in the Tale of Woe.

The tale of woe
Nurse lucy was working in the The Meepit Oaks Sanitorium for the Psychologically Fragile, with Dr. Valus,Miles (the janitor), and his pet Zomutt. She tried an attemt at the anagram puzzle in the weekly newspaper. The next day, she becomes worried because none of the other staff had returned from neovia that day, probley because they were under Mr. Krawley's curse. 8 days later, Dr. Valus returned from a trip to neovia, reporting that all the town inhabitants had vanished into thin air. Miles had to help keep the insane neopets that live in meepit oaks under control, and several times an inmate had almost broke free. The staff sent for help, and that night Dr. Edward Alexander came, who is belived to be Mr. Krawley. He gave the inmates a potion that calmed them, and nurse lucy seemed to be in love with both Dr. Alexander and Dr. valus. Dr. Alexander gave her a magic flower, which in the future would serve as the main ingredant to cure the mutated townspeople. The next morning, Dr. Valus noticed the flower nurse lucy had and asked her were she had gotten it. She told him it was from Dr. Alexander, and that got him jealous, destracting him from his work. While feeding one of the inmates, he must was not paying attention and the inmate broke free of his restraintes. Dr. Alexander was nowere to be seen. Before they could exape, the inmates got them, and lucy was thrown into a cell. Still holding the flower, she died of hunger and thirst.

Ten years later, Mr. Krawley led gilly to the old Sanitorium, were she found the skeleton of lucy, the unwilted flower Dr. alexander gave her in her torn shirt pocket. Gilly takes it and Sophie reconizes it as the final ingredant to her potion to cure the townspeople.

Users had to get all five of lucy's jornal pages from the Sanitorium and read them. They also had to get a key from the pocket of doctor Valus' shirt pocket, and destract Miles Zomutt before reaching the cell door, which TNT claims is covered in <font color="AB812C"><b>RUST</b></font>, they could grab the last piece of the jornal entry.

* There is a neopets TCG Card intitled "Acara Nurse", but there is no proof if this is lucy or not.
* Lucys skeleton is one of the rotating footer images in the Tale of Woe theme.

Mr Krawley was the elephante? --Macbeth 10:40, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)
:Yes, he was...or i would believe it is so given the information (Neopets isn't outright saying it as with a lot of things). Take a look at the eyes of Mr. Krawley and the Pink Elephante. Also, click on the Red Wocky gypsy of the image where the Elephante used to be, and you will find there never was an Elephante part of their group, i.e. someone (Mr. Krawley?) was posing as one.

:Complicated? It adds a new depth to the story, and makes you wonder why Krawley did what he did (as he was the cause and the cure of the events). Will only learn in the future why it all worked out as it did... --Jacob 11:09, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)

::Jacob, just a question: May I use the ideas (not the exact text) given in the article for our German wiki with giving you and the Neodex credit for these? The idea Mr. Krawley might have been the elephante sounds interesting.--Demon 11:22, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)
Feel free to share the information. I can't make any claim to the "discovery" of the connection between Krawley and the Elephante, as it's simply an observation from what TNT presented us...though i would be surprised if i was the first one who saw it (don't think i am). Again, feel free to spread the information, as it is something to think about. --Jacob 11:53, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)
:I agree, it would add an interesting level of depth. Could we move this to an 'aliases' section, or something, though, to expand on it in the article? There is a very good case for him being the Elephante.

:And for the record, I believe Mr Krawley did it to teach the Neovians to be happy with what they have. --Macbeth 11:54, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)
::Hey, this could explain why Bruno didn't revert; he has accepted the bad sides of what he had become while the others were not at peace with themselves... --213.39.195.44 06:12, 8 Jan 2007 (CST)
I think it's deeper than saying Mr. Krawley wanted them to be happy with what they have. he manipulated and ruined the happiness of Sophie, making her bitter and reclusive. His methods also made the inhabitants of Neovia monsters, something they must hold with shame for a long time, and he set events which released all the inmates of Meepit Oaks as well, killing off all the staff in the process. And back to Sophie, he seems to enjoy the idea of her living alone from her family (as it seems he was smiling in that scene). There is so much unexplained, because while he caused so much pain, it was also him which lead Gilly to the cure for the village. It's like he was in control of the situation the whole time...his drama. *sigh* i doubt we will know why he did what he did any time soon. The mystery TNT left us will surely be good fuel for a plot of the future. --Jacob 19:41, 8 Jan 2007 (CST)
Article image
The current image which has been uploaded for this article is the Neopets TCG card of Krawley. While that's fine and all, if a better image should come around (one that doesn't show it to be a TCG card), I think it would be best to use that other image. No, this does not mean take the image down. Just saying it's fine till another one comes along. *winks at editor who uploaded it* --Jacob 21:46, 17 Dec 2007 (UTC)
Acctully, neopets was down for about 5 minutes on the 21st of november. But I don't recall seeing the Down for Maintenance pteri anywhere on the page. --Xweetok 08:24, 18 Dec 2007

Seeing as the page was under construction needing battledome quotes I fought balthazar and managed to snag a few. (and got killed in the process!) The only problem is that BD opponents say the quotes together, so some of the smaller quotes may be one big quote. More information on this would be helpful. :See my recent edit of Down for Maintenance Pteri for example, or even Kasuki Lu for a better example. At the beginning of a fight, an opponent will say two different things, depending if they lost or won last time, along with another quote (labeled "during fight"). then they will continue to say "during fight" quotes until the fight is finished.

Trivia
*As of December 2006, Balthazar is featured in 12 different items, one of which is called Circlet of the Air Faerie, which is said to have been stolen by Balthazar long ago.
*Balthazar will sometimes decide to put 100 Faeries in the Money Tree, called Balthazar's Mega Faerie Giveaway Bonanza.
*Balthazar is one of the few villains whose Gallery of Evil image is coloured.
*Balthasar or Balthazar is the name often attributed to one of the anonymous Biblical Magi. The Magi, or The Three Wise Men, visited the baby Jesus bearing gifts. Balthazar may have been named so as an ironic reference to this. It is also noted as an alternate form of a Babylonian king called Belshazzar, and Balthasar was the manservant of Romeo in the Shakespearean play Romeo and Juliet.

Mr. Krawley is a blue Krawk usually dressed in a suit, and identified by his bright yellow eyes. He is a creator of powerful magical potions, which are not only capable of affecting the physical body but the reality around a person as well. He also has very powerful magic, able to animate non-living objects such as stone and trees. Also capable of posing as different Neopets, such as a pink Elephante gypsy and Dr. Edward Alexander.

Plot summary
The Tale of Woe
:Main Article: The Tale of Woe

Mr. Krawley appeared in Neovia (unnamed at the time) before Bruno, offering him a potion to give him what he desired. Soon after, everyone in Neovia was taking his miracle elixer. It was soon revealed the potions were cursed, and the inhabitants of the city were turned into monstrous forms of their own desires, and sought revenge for what Mr. Krawley did to them. He disappered before this could happen, however, and they moved their anger to Bruno and his family instead.

After Neovia's inhabitants went under a different curse from The Spirit of Slumber, Mr. Krawley appeared to the suffering staff of Meepit Oaks in the guise of Dr. Edward Alexander. Giving the inmates a potion which seemed to calm them, he left a flower in nurse Lucy's care before leaving the upcoming chaos he left behind.

10 years later, Gilly arrived at a gypsy camp where Mr. Krawley (disguised as a Pink Elephante) told her The Tale of Woe and the fate of Neovia. Weeks later on Halloween when the cursed Neovia was about to attack Bruno and Gilly, Mr. Krawley was spotted and Gilly gave him chase to Meepit Oaks, where she discovered the flower left to Lucy, the final ingredient to cure Neovia. When the village was cured, Gilly spotted him watching as Sophie said her goodbyes to her family and magically disappeared, leaving purple smoke behind.

Trivia
*Mr. Krawley remained unnamed in The Tale of Woe until Chapter 11, but his name could be found in the Neopets TCG card of the Haunted Woods Expansion Set months before the plot was released.
*The character Mr. Krawley is believed to be influenced by Mr. Dark of the book/movie Something Wicked This Way Comes. The name Mr. Krawley can also be related to Aleister Crowley, due to Aleister's occult nature and the name relation they share (Alexander Krawley = Aleister Crowley)
