The term Plot refers to events on Neopets or stories in Neopia in which users can participate for prizes or experience something different from normal Neopets play. Plots first began to appear on August 15, 2000, with Arrival of Virtupets.

Overview
In the ever growing world of Neopets, it's through plots that it's expanded the most, by introducing new characters, worlds and facts/history of Neopia which each new plot. There are many different examples of plots in Neopets, but the basic premise behind every plot is the same: a story taking place in Neopia is told, and users can participate in some way to receive prizes. Participation is different for each type of plot, which can include puzzle solving, fighting in the Battledome or a combination of both. Sometimes participation can only happen at certain times of the plot as well, either while the plot is being presented, or at the climax of the story.

One of the more popular participation methods in plots is fighting in the Battledome, in which users fight a series of special 1-Player Challengers for points to be collected for prizes. Sometimes there is an official "war", in which users join with the army of a warring party in the story to fight against another, or even choose opposite sides to fight a users opposite side.

Plots almost always have lasting impressions on the world of Neopia, the most common of which being new worlds for users to explore. Characters new and old are also more defined by plots, and are the driving force by how we understand them. Depending on the world in which the plot takes place, characters make reappearances now and then, the most common of which being Dr. Frank Sloth, the most notorious villain in Neopia.

The majority of plots today are presented through a comic book format, yet plots of the past have included animations, plain images with text, and sometimes no images at all, leaving users to use their imagination as to what is happening in the story.

Food are items which can be fed to a users Neopet to reduce their hunger. Food is a basic need for Neopets, and the first shop in Neopia is the Food Shop.

Food items are one of the most diverse kinds of items. There are the the cheap, (omelettes and jelly), the expensive (Gourmet Food), and the odd (Gross Food).

Food Types
Besides the basic Food category of food items, there are many differnet categories of food which come from different worlds and shops.

Baked
...to be added...

Candy
Basically, this is your chocolates and a few fruity candies here and there, or both. Buying a gourmet item from the shop will earn you an avatar.

Pizza
...to be added...

Gross Food
Gross food is a special type of food that you dont see too much of in the regular shops. However, they can be obtained in many different ways, like in the dailies. Due to their easy to get nature, gross foods are often extremely cheap, especially on the shop wizard. An odd quirk is that when searched, gross foods do not have a "see if this item is in stock" or "find this item in the shop wizard" sign. But dont let that deter you from getting one if you need it (may be a kitchen quest requirement). You will usually find these under 100 np in peoples' shops. If you feed your Neopet with Gross Food, they will gross out, saying gross words such as "Yuck!" of "That was horrible :(".

Coffee
...to be added...

Healthy Food
...to be added...

Smoothie
...to be added...

Tropical Food
These foods are sold on Mystery Island and are the centerpiece to Gadgadsbogen. There are quite a number of tropical foods, with new ones released every year around March 4th. Usually, there are a number of tropical foods retired on Gadgadsbogen, replaced with the new ones released on that day.

Space Food
...to be added...

Aquatic Food
...to be added...

Slushie
Slushies are foods that come in different sizes, such as small, medium, large, and mega. Several slushie flavors are very gross yet not considered a gross food.

Snow Food
...to be added...

Tyrannian Food
...to be added...

Spooky Food
Spooky food is one of the more important foods in Neopets. The Esophagor and even the Kitchen Quests may need some of it, and it is important to the Brain Tree quests as well. Spooky food pretty much comes in 2 types: the cheap mass consumption types that are available in user stores for 100 np or less, and the super rare foods that sell for tens of thousands of Neopoints. Spooky foods may be bought in the shop at the Deserted Fairground, or bought on the Shop Wizard.

Hot Dog
...to be added...

Desert Food
Desert Food was released on June 21, 2001, along with the release of the Lost Desert. They are bought from Foods of the Lost Desert and also given by Coltzan's Shrine, and the Fruit Machine. Some Desert Food is damaged, burned or lowered in value in some way, and are therefore sold at a much lower price.

Faerie Food
...to be added...

Jelly Food
Jelly food, unlike many other types of food, can only be bought in Jelly World. These incorporate many foods that are just made of jelly, and a large portion of it consists of jellies that you can take for free, just like the giant omelette, once a day. These jellies are 2 servings, and can become a stable food source for a pet.

Medieval Food
Medieval food usually consists of gruel, stones, etc.
and can be purchased at (usually) low prices at Meridell Foods.

Brightvale Fruit
...to be added...

Kiko Lake Food
Kiko Lake food usually consists of edible flavored rocks.

Kreludan Food
...to be added...

Qasalan Food
...to be added...

Altadorian Food
...to be added...

Exotic Foods
The newest food category to Neopia as of 2007, with Asian-themed foods like wasabi, or a variety of sushis, and so on.

Soup Faerie
For those too poor to afford food for their pet, the Soup Faerie will fill their needs. People with under 3000 NP can visit the Soup Faerie in the Neopian Marketplace and have their pets fed for free. The Soup Faerie can't be fooled, she knows how much money you have in the bank as well as your shop till.

Gourmet Food
Gourmet foods are expensive foods that count for the Gourmet Club. Gourmet foods that a pet has eaten are automatically kept track of. Pets that have eaten the most gourmet food get a trophy or an honorary member card on their user page.
Remember, gourmet foods must have a rating of 90-100 and are consequently very difficult to get, although there are a few that are cheap.

Eating For Free
It is quite easy for a user to feed their Neopets from dying to bloated without spending much NP, due to the fact Neopets creates more food each day than is actually feed to Neopets. there are also places which feed your Neopets without having to use any items or very little NP.

Free-Food
*Islandberry Crunch has been removed from Neopets.

Maraqua is an underwater land discovered on October 6, 2000. The name is given to two underwater kingdoms, one of which was destroyed and is currently in ruins. In order to distinguish between the two cities, the historic city is referred to as Old Maraqua and the modern New Maraqua. Maraqua is not the only underwater settlement, but it is the only salt water one as of yet discovered.

Old Maraqua
The Destruction
:Main Article: The Destruction of Maraqua

Was destroyed by a whirlpool on August 18, 2001, following a flash movie released the previous day (17th August 2001) in which the Pirate Captain Dread, a skeletal Kiko, sailed to Maraqua in a submarine known in fanlore as The Revenge. Here, he demanded his annual 'protection money' from the then King Koi, who refused to pay (giving reasons such as a 'poor Kelp Harvest'). From the tone of this conversation, it can be presumed that Captain Dread regularly came for this money. The whirlpool is believed to be the result of a curse from this Pirate. The whirlpool, said to be ten miles wide, lasted until the 31st May 2002, where is finally subsided to reveal the Ruins of Maraqua.

Attractions of the Original Maraqua
Maraqua once housed the Underwater Kitchen Quests, later relocated to Mystery Island, and was the sole supplier of Utility Fish, which are now all retired and very expensive. TNT stated once that they originally planned for Utility Fish to be used as NeoHome utilities. Maraqua also sold Aquatic PetPets (most of which were redesigned and are being sold on Mystery Island). The Aquatic Foods Shop also disappeared, retiring the shop items, only to be replaced by The Kelp in New Maraqua, with new foods.

After the whirlpool ruined the city, the Ruins began to be populated again, first by a gigantic Slug Monster, then by a Mysterious Statue (believed to be of the Darkest Faerie), then by a Bubbling Pit (listing all the available Maraqua-coloured Neopets), then by an Underwater Fishing area. The discovery and open trade with New Maraqua has promoted people re-entering the ruins, and it remains to be seen whether more will be made of this area.

New Maraqua
After the whirlpool destroyed the original city, King Kelpbeard set about building a new, more splendid city, with a strong army to protect it from its enemies. However, information of this was learnt by an armada of pirates, who set out to conquer the nation.

History
As part of the Curse of Maraqua plot, Maraqua was rebuilt with the intention of being stronger than its predecessor so as to withstand any future Pirate attacks. New Maraqua has a standing army lead by Swordmaster Talek, something Old Maraqua didn't appear to have. When Captain Scarblade learned that there were surviving Maraquans, he lead another attack (this time with an army of pirates). They were fought off, however, in the plot.

Maractite
The Curse of Maraqua plot introduced the mineral maractite, capable of travelling effortlessly through water as though it was in air. Information provided in the CoM plot suggests that supplies of maractite are running thin. According to the Maractite Axe card (of the Neopets TCG), maractite slowly decays when exposed to air.

Attractions of New Maraqua
In addition to having shops selling maractite weaponry and furniture, Maraqua is also the sole supplier of collectable Sea Shells. There is a shop selling Maraquan PetPets, although, interestingly, none of the PetPets that were sold in Old Maraqua and now Mystery Island are being sold.

The restaurant Kelp, much like the Golden Dubloon on Krawk Island, sells highly priced meals, and an avatar is obtainable from it. It is frequently very busy, making entering the restaurant difficult.

Maraquan Architecture
Visually, Old Maraqua's structure was very different from New Maraqua's. Old Maraqua was built out of transparashield, and had the look of a futuristic ocean colony. The smooth, bubble-like windows seemed to imply that there was an atmosphere inside the buildings. New Maraqua has a very coral-like appearance, is made out of Maractite, and is open to the oceans.

Plot Replacements
In the Curse of Maraqua plot, several replacements were made to the characters from the original destruction movie. Captain Dread was replaced with Captain Scarblade, Captain Dread's unnamed sidekick Blumaroo was replaced with Benny the Blade, King Koi was replaced with King Kelpbeard, and The Revenge submarine with a boat of the same name.

The original destruction movie was removed after the Curse of Maraqua (the page it was found on now only redirects to the About Us page) due to these inconsistencies, but the movie file still exists on the servers.

Yooyuball
Maraqua's Yooyuball team could be described as "a house divided," due to the antics of their star forward Elon Hughlis is more concerned with his personal accomplishments than actual wins and losses, making him a headache to the team. He looks down on his teammates who aren't as talented as him, and they endure him due to his tremendous ability. Maraqua would love to trade Hughlis to another team, but no other team would give them as equal a player in return.

After getting beaten in the first round of Altador Cup 2006, fans thought Maraqua would cut its losses and get rid of Elon Hughlis. When it became apparent that Hughlis wasn't leaving, free agent forward Jair Tollet accepted an offer from Roo Island. Considering Hughlis insisted on scoring most of the team's goals, Maraqua decided having three defenders in the lineup worked best for them, adding hefty defence man Oten Runeu to their starting unit. As a result, Maraqua now has one of the toughest squads in Neopia to score against.

*Barit Jowes - Right Defender
*Elon "The Black Hole" Hughlis - Centre Forward, Team Captain
*Filo Desenz - Left Defender
*Jair Tollet - Left Forward (2006)
*Oten Runeu - Centre Defender (2007)
*Tonie Plessix - Goalkeeper

Colour
A citizen native to Maraqua is called a Maraquan, yet this can also mean the special colour of a Neopet. Maraquan Neopets are shaped and designed to be native to the water, and despite this Maraquan Neopets can even be seen out of the water moving about. As of January 2007, there are 33 Neopets which can be coloured Maraquan:
*The Neopets Team gave a hint Maraqua would return in the Advent Calendar of December 27, 2004, which showed all current bands of the Concert Hall playing to a version of Feed the World with the words "Rebuild Maraqua - Let them know Neopia loves them!". A Rebuild Maraqua Poster was given out as a prize on the same day.
Petpets (sometimes PetPets) are pets for a user's Neopet. A class of items created on September 27, 2000, they can be attached to a Neopet much like Battledome Equipment. Most Petpets can be purchased in official Neopian shops, but some are gained only by other activities, such as using the Cooking Pot.

For a long time, Petpets could not be painted, but this was changed on October 2, 2001 with the introduction of the Petpet Paint Brush, which is used at the Petpet Puddle. Later, on August 3, 2005, the Petpet Lab Ray was introduced. Like the Neopet Lab Ray, the Petpet equivalent can alter a Petpet's colour and other statistics, such as species, level and name. The Petpet even has a chance of being completely destroyed.

A Petpet can also gain levels at the Petpet Battledome and by waking the Turmaculus, but its levels will not be retained if the Petpet is ever removed from its Neopet. In turn, these levels can help the Neopet in the Battledome, acting as an attack multiplier.

There are also Petpetpets, parasites that live on Petpets, which are a pet to the Petpet.

Petpet Protection League
:Main Article: Petpet Protection League

The Petpet Protection League (PPL for short) is a group of Neopians who reward Neopets for taking good care of their Petpet. Each week they select a random Petpet and reward users whose Neopets have had them for the longest by paying 10 Neopoints for every day they have been owned. Users who have the oldest of that selected Petpet receive a Trophy as well.

Neopets who take their Petpet to the Petpet Laboratory are exempt from the PPL, as it's viewed as a form of cruelty against Petpets.

A Rebuild Maraqua Poster was given out as a prize on the same day.

Exotic Foods
...to be added...

Free-Food
These jellies are 2 servings, and can become a stable food source for a pet.

*Islandberry Crunch has been removed from Neopets.
