|}
Food are items which can be fed to a users Neopet to reduce their hunger. Food is a basic need for Neopets, and the first shop in Neopia is the Food Shop.

Food items are one of the most diverse kinds of items. There are the the cheap, (omelettes and jelly), the expensive (Gourmet Food), and the odd (Gross Food).

Food Types
Besides the basic Food category of food items, there are many different categories of food which come from different worlds and shops.

Baked
...to be added...

Candy
Basically, this is your chocolates and a few fruity candies here and there, or both. Buying a gourmet item from the shop will earn you an avatar.

Pizza
...to be added...

Gross Food
Gross food is a special type of food that you don't see too much of in the regular shops. However, they can be obtained in many different ways, like in the dailies. Due to their easy to get nature, gross foods are often extremely cheap, especially on the shop wizard. An odd quirk is that when searched, gross foods do not have a "see if this item is in stock" or "find this item in the shop wizard" sign. But don't let that deter you from getting one if you need it (may be a kitchen quest requirement). You will usually find these under 100 NP in peoples' shops. If you feed your Neopet with Gross Food, they will gross out, saying gross words such as "Yuck!" of "That was horrible :(".

Coffee
...to be added...

Healthy Food
This is a pretty straight forward category. It includes veggies like broccoli and leeks. What you find at the health food shop is for the most part (except for Neopets food) is much what you may find in a health food store--lots of fresh fruits and veggies, vitamins, veggie burgers, granola bars, etc.

Slushie
A slushie is basically the same thing as a smoothie except that it looks different and does not come in different sizes. Some slushies look very odd.

Tropical Food
These foods are sold on Mystery Island and are the centerpiece to Gadgadsbogen. There are quite a number of tropical foods, with new ones released every year around March 4th. Usually, there are a number of tropical foods retired on Gadgadsbogen, replaced with the new ones released on that day.

Space Food
...to be added...

Aquatic Food
Food which is bought from Maraqua. As of July 2008, the only store which sells Aquatic food is Kelp, though there used to be an official store in Old Maraqua, and some food items are given out as prizes for such things as the Advent Calender. Food of this type is sometimes confused with food which comes from Underwater Fishing, though food from there is of the basic subtype "Food".

Smoothie
Smoothies are foods that come in different sizes, such as small, medium, large, and mega. Several smoothie flavours are very gross yet not considered a gross food.

Snow Food
Snow Food is basically food that looks like it's been sculpted from snow or has snow in it or on it. Snow Foods can be bought from the Super Happy Icy Fun Snow Shop. Beware of that Lenny though, if you haggle with him over something for too long he will eventually say something rude like "BEGONE!" Just how is that supposed to be a way to attract customers?

Tyrannian Food
Tyrannian Food is usually prehistoric/dinosaur-themed and most of it can be bought at the Tyrannian Foods shop. Omelettes from the Giant Omelette also fall into this category.

Spooky Food
Spooky food is one of the more important foods in Neopets. The Esophagor and even the Kitchen Quests may need some of it, and it is important to the Brain Tree Quests as well. Spooky food pretty much comes in 2 types: the cheap mass consumption types that are available in user stores for 100 NP or less, and the super rare foods that sell for tens of thousands of Neopoints. Spooky foods may be bought in the shop at the Deserted Fairground, or bought on the Shop Wizard.

Hot Dog
sold by hubert inthe bazzar in neopia central.

Desert Food
Desert Food was released on June 21, 2001, along with the release of the Lost Desert. They are bought from Foods of the Lost Desert and also given by Coltzan's Shrine, and the Fruit Machine. Some Desert Food is damaged, burned or lowered in value in some way, and are therefore sold at a much lower price.

Faerie Food
...to be added...

Jelly Food
Jelly food, unlike many other types of food, can only be bought in Jelly World. These incorporate many foods that are just made of jelly, and a large portion of it consists of jellies that you can take for free, just like the giant omelette, once a day. These jellies are 2 servings, and can become a stable food source for a pet. A weird thing about jelly food is that if you search for them in the search bar and then click on them and then click the "See if this item is in stock!" button, an error message comes up.

Medieval Food
Medieval food usually consists of gruel, stones, berries that you can get from Pick Your Own, etc., which most can be purchased at (usually) low prices at Meridell Foods with the exception of the Pick Your Own berries.

Brightvale Fruit
...to be added...

Kiko Lake Food
Kiko Lake food usually consists of edible flavoured rocks.

Kreludan Food
...to be added...

Qasalan Food
...to be added...

Altadorian Food
...to be added...

Exotic Foods
The newest food category to Neopia as of 2007, with Asian-themed foods like wasabi, or a variety of sushis, and so on. They can be purchased at the Exotic Foods shop in Shenkuu.

Soup Faerie
For those too poor to afford food for their pet, the Soup Faerie will fill their needs. People with under 3000 NP can visit the Soup Faerie in the Neopian Marketplace and have their pets fed for free. The Soup Faerie can't be fooled, she knows how much money you have in the bank as well as your shop till.

Gourmet Food
Gourmet foods are expensive foods that count for the Gourmet Club. Gourmet foods that a pet has eaten are automatically kept track of. Pets that have eaten the most gourmet food get a trophy or an honorary member card on their user page. Remember, gourmet foods must have a rating of 90-100 and are consequently very difficult to get, although there are a few that are cheap.

Eating For Free
It is quite easy for a user to feed their Neopets from dying to bloated without spending much NP, due to the fact Neopets creates more food each day than is actually feed to Neopets. there are also places which feed your Neopets without having to use any items or very little NP.

The NC Mall is a Neopets feature released into open beta on July 3, 2007, and officially launched . Its located in Neopia Central. It's operated by a Green Scorchio.

Using this special online shop, users could spend real life dollars to buy Neocash (NC for short). Users transfer money through Paypal. All items bought from the NC Mall had an expiration date of 180 days (90 during Beta), yet an update occurred on December 14, 2007, in which the majority of items no longer have a expiration date.

Neocash
:NeoCash is the system of virtual currency accepted by the NC mall. NeoCash can be obtained through PayPal, or by neocash cards. (see below) There has been controversy about spending real money over neopoints, but the neopets team insists this is purely an extra feature, not nessecary to use the neopets website. Every $1 equals 100 NeoCash. You can win neocash from the Qasuellan Expello box.

Neocash Card
On October 17, 2007, the Neocash Card began their circulation in Target stores. The cards were sold for $10 or $25, each giving their respective amounts and eight different designs. For every Neocash card redeemed, a virtual item is given which couldn't be received anywhere else, and with all $25 cards an additional 150 NC was given when redeemed. In the United States, Neocash Cards can also be purchased at 7-Eleven, CVS Pharmacy, and selected Walmart stores.
Controversy
Many users disliked the idea of paying real money for items that expire in 180 days. The Neoboard subject NC mall is often full of people protesting this idea stating it breaks the promise that Neopets will be a free site.

Trivia
*During the official opening of the NC Mall, the image link in Neopia Central had animated flood lights and a giant float of the Green Scorchio as a large line strung out from the shops entrance.
*The most expensive item to buy from the NC Mall is the Down With NC Flag, pricing at 5000 NC points, while the cheapest is I Heart NC Flag, priced at 25 NC. This is an obvious joke on the part of The Neopets Team, requiring users who want to proclaim their dislike of the NC Mall to buy the most expensive item.
*Category and images descriptions were added to the item categories on September 15, 2007, in order to better explain their content to users.
*On September 18, 2007, the NC Mall became available to English users in Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom and other countries.
*A special giveaway for Neocash Cards began on October 17, 2007.

A Morphing Potion is a magical elixir which can change a Neopet's species and colour into those specified in the potion's name. They are sold at the Neopian Magic Shop.

Once a Neopet has taken a Morphing Potion, they acquire all the traits of the new species and/or colour, but can be morphed again with a new potion, repainted, or exposed to the Lab Ray.

A Transmogrification Potion is a foul-smelling Morphing Potion which morphs a Neopet into a Mutant. Created by Dr. Frank Sloth, Transmogrification Potions first emerged on February 5, 2001, being sold by Kauvara, who had received them from Dr. Sloth in disguise. Thinking they were innocent concoctions, she put them for sale in her Magic Shop, until she discovered their horrifying results. Since then, Transmogrification Potions only enter circulation when they are given to users via Random Events. This factor, coupled with the appeal in many circles of the Mutant colour, makes Transmogrification Potions very expensive. The effects of a Transmogrification Potion on a Neopet is effectively the same as a regular Morphing Potion. This makes Transmogrification Potions for rare species in even greater demand, as they are typically cheaper than normal Morphing Potions for Neopets.

The NeoHospital only lists one cure for each disease, but there are currently almost 2 cures for every disease as of December 2006.
The Darkest Faerie (also known as The Sleeper, The Betrayer and Mistress of Nightmares) is a powerful Dark Faerie who was one of Altador's 12 great heroes before she betrayed them. She was so powerful she was sealed away at the bottom of the sea for 1,000 years by Fyora after she tried to force the kingdom of Altador under her rule. Since then her name has been forgotten, and is now simply referred to as the darkest and most evil of all Faeries.

Plot summaries
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie

During Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, The Darkest Faerie escaped from her imprisonment under the sea when Jerdana's Orb fell from her neck. Soon after that, she washed up on the shores of Meridell, claiming she was going to make everything dark and twisted. After Illusen's charm was stolen by the Werelupe King, nothing could stop The Darkest Faerie from taking over the land, and she quickly covered Meridell in a dark purple cloud, tainting all inhabitants under them with her evil. Thanks to Tormund and Roberta she was imprisoned in stone.

Altador Plot
Altador Plot

In the Altador Plot, users were required to find The Darkest Faerie's contellation, known as The Sleeper. Finding her constellation began to break down a spell that was cast over Altador to cover up it's history.

On the 28th of March, a new link was discovered on the Altador map that led to the Restive Tomb. Clicking one of the holes in the center of the door would reveal the pattern of the first constellation. Go back to the Archivist then to the observatory. Find the constellation and report back to the Astronomy Club. The gems above the Darkest Faerie statue now glow and The Sleeper chapter in the Book of Ages is filled in.

Book of Ages: Chapter 1, The Sleeper
<blockquote>Just as a hero must perform a heroic deed before he can be named as such, a villain must also do something terrible in order to earn such a title. The Betrayer was not always an evil being and was once even respected for her deeds. Long before the Great Betrayal, (in fact, before the founding of Altador), she earned her place among the twelve Founders by saving the life of King Altador himself.<br><br>

A terrible menace was plaguing a peaceful farmland, and a hunter (the future king of Altador) journeyed forth to slay the beast. He tracked it back to its lair in a cave at the base of a mountain and there cornered it. Though the beast roared viciously, Altador did not falter.<br><br>

Rather, he notched an arrow and let it fly, striking the beast squarely in the head. Even as the vile creature slumped to the ground, another of its kind snuck up on the unsuspecting Lupe. The noble hunter would have fallen then and there if not for a purple blast of magic. Startled, Altador spun around, just in time to see the other creature collapse. There, standing behind it, was a dark faerie... the Betrayer.<br><br>

Altador thanked her graciously for saving his life. He had never witnessed such compassion on the part of a dark faerie before, so he bid her to return with him to his village, where they would feast and be praised as heroes.<br><br>

Each carried the head of the beast they had slain to the village, and a grand celebration was held long into the night. Altador, realising what a unique ally he had acquired, asked her to stay and join him and his companions in fulfilling a dream he had of founding a great city. The Betrayer agreed, and though she would ultimately help to build the kingdom's august capital and serve the council well, nothing can make up for her terrible betrayal. She broke the king's heart, for no sword strikes as deep as the one wielded by a friend....</blockquote>

Trivia
*Random Events involving the Darkest Faerie...
**The Darkest Faerie appears to be deep in thought and doesn't notice you. You'd better run before she finds you and... well, you don't want to know what will happen.
*It was long thought that the name of the Darkest Faerie was Jennumara, the Dark Faerie who had stolen the name of a Grey Faerie in her Neopedia article. However, this speculation was cleared in the editorial of issue 239 of the Neopian Times, stating they were two separate Dark Faeries.
Psellia (also known as The Dreamer) is an Air Faerie which doesn’t come down to Neopia often, preferring to spend her time in the clouds. Instead, she sends messages below through her Harris, giving them little gifts to bestow to those worthy of her attention.

Not much is known about Psellia who aided Meridell during their war against the forces of Lord Kass, whose efforts whisked away the dark clouds and let the sun shine through on the knights of Meridell as they attacked Darigan Citadel. While she isn't widely known around Neopia, Psellia is popular in Altador, being one of Altador's 12 heroes.

Psellia is one of the 12 founders of Altador, a fact discovered during the Altador Plot. Her constellation is The Dreamer.

On March 28, 2006, a group of clouds on the top right corner of the Altador map were clickable. Once there, clicking on one of the gaps in the clouds would reveal a pattern. After visiting the Archivist, players could head to the Observatory to find The Dreamer. The gems above Psellia's statue now glow and her chapter is added to the Book of Ages.

Book of Ages - Chapter 2, The Dreamer
<blockquote>Though she lacks the worldwide fame of other Neopian faeries, Psellia is well known and revered for her kindness in Altador. She always does her best to encourage others to achieve and is always there to catch them if they stumble in their lives. A rather inspirational figure, Psellia is known throughout Altador as "the Dreamer."<br><br>
One day, long before the founding of Altador, Psellia was relaxing on the clouds of Faerieland when a Blumaroo bounced too close to the edge of a cloud and slipped off. Psellia watched in horror as the Blumaroo plunged toward the sea far below.<br><br>
She knew the poor creature would not survive the fall, so she leapt off the cloud and darted downward, fluttering her wings as fast as they could go.<br><br>
The turbulent sea grew closer and closer, and Psellia could see the Blumaroo's terrified eyes as he desperately flailed his arms toward her. Though her muscles burned with the effort of flying faster than she ever had, the air faerie was determined to catch the falling Neopet before it was too late.<br><br>

Using the last of her strength, Psellia let loose an amazing burst of speed that only an air faerie could manage and grasped the Blumaroo's outstretched hand. With his paw firmly in her grip, Psellia tried to slow their fall, straining at the air until they landed in the ocean with an almost delicate splash. With the last of her energy, Psellia swam to a nearby shore, dragging the Blumaroo safely onto dry land, where they could recover.<br><br>

This heroic tale spread quickly, and soon thereafter Altador requested that Psellia join him in forming the Kingdom of Altador.</blockquote>
*Psellia's Gallery of Heroes article was added on October 25, 2004.
*On August 30, 2007, Psellia was featured in Better Than You on the game Faerie Bubbles with a score of 2370. Reward was a Sword of the Air Faerie Stamp. Quoted saying...
