Ugh. Norovirus? Does not sound fun. I hope you get better soon, and you don't get kicked out of your appointment!

No fun on the virus. :( I hope you get over it quickly! I've been taking lots of extra vitamins, trying to NOT get sick again this season. I've got too many commitments in the next two weeks.

It must have been a strain I had before, because I was only sick for half the day and made it to my appointment (and then told everyone to sanitize extra well behind me). It gave me today off, so that's a plus.

Glad you're feeling better, Siniri!

I have upped my Vitamin C intake significantly since it started getting a little cooler. Thankfully, C is one of those vitamins that the body flushes out any extra it doesn't want so overdosing on it isn't possible ;)

I do actually know someone who was hospitalized for OD'ing on Vitamin C. She took WAY too much in too short of a time and her body couldn't handle it. So...it is unfortunately possible. But...you have to take a LOT to do it. O.o

Oh dear. Good to know. How much did they take in that short time? I do know that taking a bunch of Vitamin C on an empty stomach can cause some serious nausea. It is better to spread out the intake throughout the day, but I never remember to do so. I have brought a tablet with me to work to take at lunch...99% of the time, it was in my pocket when I get home so I no longer bother with that.

You can check the upper limit of any vitamin or mineral here (some supplements don't have one). This article was last reviewed for medical accuracy by a doctor in September.

The UL for vitamin C is 2,000 mg/day, but that includes from all sources, including food.

When I take meds with me to work, I pack them in my lunchbox(/breakfast/dinner -box), or in the same compartment as my phone charger, where I'll remember to take them out and put them somewhere else where I'll see them at meal time. If you're buying lunch, maybe put it with your payment method?

I don't know how much she took at once. This was several years ago at this point.

Thanks Siniri. I upped my dosage during COVID and again when masking was no longer a thing. I am convinced it works for me, so I will stick with it... for now. I used to a little, but a little didn't do it so the little got more and more. I just keep trying to get a little better - a little better than before.

Digging a little deeper, it looks like the biggest issue with higher doses is nausea and/or diarrhea. Makes sense. I have found for me that it doesn't matter if I take 500, 1k, 2k or 3k mg; The nausea is real and will start after about 15-30 minutes and will get worse by the minute unless I eat something within that 15-30 minutes. It completely stops almost immediately after eating. Eating something within that 15-30 minutes completely prevents the nausea even at the higher dosage level. YMMV

I add a little sprinkle of vitamin C powder into any greens I eat (to enhance iron absorption), or produce I don't want to brown or want a little acidity in (since I've become allergic to lemon), plus a daily multivitamin. I probably also get the full RDA just from my food already, so I don't want to risk taking any additional in supplements.
