There was a bad 7.8 earthquake. The death toll from today's earthquake in China's Sichuan Province has risen to 7,651, state-run Xinhua news agency reports.

This is bad. Tornados are killing people in my state. Every few days another bad storm comes through and kills more people. I know it has nothing to do with Earthquakes though. Some people might argue that, and say they view the whole Earth as sort of a living entity that is getting revenge on it's inhabitants who have been treating it wrongly too often and too long. I'd almost believe that these days.

Then we have the Myanmar situation and now this.

Also, I know volcanos and earthquakes are part of a related system so we also have seen the volcanos erupting in parts of the world, like the one that happened in Chile.

There have been small quakes in the US, some in unusal places that don't seen much activity, but still have their fault lines.

Just the other day I was thinking the Earth is building up for something big some place. Maybe this is not the end yet. Now we see the quake in China. Well, I still don't think it is over yet. I still fear something bigger is going to take place, because of all the activity happening all over the world.
I don't want another Tsunami or anything bad, but I am just saying that it seems like pressure is building up in lots of places in the world, and when it blows, I don't want to be there.

Iran's already had theirs (The Bam earthquake in 2003), and Pakistan had their 2005 quake, and of course Indonesia and the surrounding countries had their 2004 tsunami. There's a volcano in Chile that's looking ominous right now, too.

I don't think the Earth is building up for anything spectacular - although of course I could be wrong. I just hope it's somewhere near the middle of nowhere.

Well, if you believe the Discovery Channel, the earth is building up for something spectacular -- the eruption of Yellowstone or one of the other calderas around the world (which erupt every 150,000 years or so -- guess how long it's been?).

Of course, if you follow the link to the U.S.G.S., you can see that the probability is actually exceedingly small. Still, I'm glad to have a prairie and a mountain range between me and Yellowstone.

(and for those talking about the earthquakes in Asia, you have to remember that that part of the world is one giant fault line. While many hit underwater (and create devistating sunami's) its catastrophic when they hit land. But I do agree, with all the natural disasters lately, something big is building.)

Oh, I saw that Mega Disaster show about Gamma Rays. That scared me more more than the other ones in the series. Well, except for the oil shortage one, but that's scary because the disaster part is the human behavior if that were to happen.

Here in the UAE we felt the aftershocks of both Iran's earthquake AND Pakistans earthquake. Everyone here was seriously surprised by the pakistan one, but I remember there were warnings and everything for the awaited aftershocks after the Iranian earthquake
