My avatar won't work!

I put in the URL, and it's not a broken image, but it's not appearing! It is only about 52x49 in size and is a GIF, so why won't it appear?

It could be that the URL you entered is incorrect, or the actual picture is bad, or something. Have you uploaded it to a good image hoster (Photobucket is a good one, if you get a chance to register.)

If you have uploaded it to a image hoster, then the site may be down.

I don't know... other than the things I have suggested.

I already said that the image is OK and the URL is correct. I didn't make the image, though (I'd have nowhere to upload it anyhow) but I don't think that makes a difference. And I just checked, the site is up and running. That's why I'm asking, because the normal reasons aren't applying.

Are you trying to use the link from the site?
Some sites don't allow you to use images directly from them.
If you want to save it to your computer and send it to me, I can host it from my photobucket account.

Also, be sure that the filename ends in ".gif" versus ".GIF"... the boards are quite case sensitive in that regard.

Out of curiousity --- what's the URL for the avatar... maybe I can see what I can do.

The image IS saved to my computer. I'll send it if you'll tell me how. Anyways, to check and see if it can be directly linked, I'll see if I can use the "image' tag to attach it to this post.

Okay, that was weird... I just saw it, and when I refreshed, it was gone. I don't know what happened to it though, but it was definately there for a second.

EDIT: And... it happened again. Weird.

You may need to upload it somewhere else -- it looks to me that the server isn't allowing direct linking.

Yeah, I dunno why it does that and other times it doesn't. Guess this means I'm going to have to get some outside help.

It would seem that the site you're trying to link to it from doesn't allow outside linking. Go to http://www.photobucket.com and click "Sign Up" create a free account, and then upload the image from your computer. Then use the new photobucket URL of the image to add it here as your avatar.
Or, if Chao or someone else would like to upload it to their own account for you (I would myself, but I can't) they can go directly to the URL of the image (by typing it into their address bar) and save it from there, and then upload it for you.
