PPT Wiki

Sun Jun 26, 2005 2:38 pm

I think it would be a good idea to have a PPT Wiki.

For those that don't know what a Wiki is, here's a definition. "A wiki is a web application that allows users to add content, as on an Internet forum, but also allows anyone to edit the content. Wiki also refers to the collaborative software used to create such a website."

It's sorta like one huge online encyclopedia that anyone can update on a certain subject.

I think it would be good for PPT to have one. Members could make a page about themselves, anyone could post the results of a contest on a page, someone could post about a certain forum event, crash, whatnot.

I think it would be a great way to make PPT even more community based.

For a link of free Wiki services, I found this-

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wiki_Science:How_to_start_a_Wiki#Free_wiki_hosting

We'd just have to decide what service to use, and who would start it (after it's created, everyone can update the pages).

What do you guys think?

That's an unofficial wiki page. It's quite complete.

I know that there is an entry in Wikipedia, however at that site you only get one page per subject. So you only get one page to talk about all of PPT.

What I'm thinking is a Wiki just on PPT- where we can have tons of pages on different subjects. Here's some stuff I'm thinking-

1) Each member can make a page about themselves, maybe with all their sets, a history of themselves, etc.

2) If someone is running a contest, they can put up a page with a recap of how the contest went

3) A page can be made for certain events- such as the forum crashing or whatnot

Theres lots of other stuff that I'm sure people can think of. It would just be a big expansion of the current Wiki entry.

People can learn all about PPT. It's a great way to document PPT history. It's a community driven project- and PPT is all about community.

I sense this thing taking up a lot of space.
As well, I do believe thats what the forums are.
Basically this is PPT history, members talk about themselves here. I don't see the need for individual pages on everyone and 'important events' they're talked about here enough.

If you put it on one of the Wiki sites, then it wouldn't take up any PPT space.

A Wiki is like an encyclopedia. It's meant for people to have an archive of everything that's happened. I don't know what's happened at PPT since I've just restarted a few weeks ago.

This is a way to keep track of it all.

We do have an archive. As Inrun said, it's PPT History. (Which I swear, I'll get around to getting Yukio to update...even if it involves stealing Rune's pan). And to see whats happened at PPT, you ought to read some of the news in the News Board, or skim some of the threads in this very board. They pretty much outline everything.

A full wiki would effectively be a second forum.

Yea. I mean, think about it this way. If everyone was to write down their whole history on PPT then we would probably need a whole new server to contain the data! And anyway, the forums are basically a big history page. I mean, we all refer to our history here at one point or another.

It looks like someone deleted the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia: ... ion/PinkPT

Too bad; I wanted to see it.
