Evanescence: Like or dislike?

I think their ok, not my fav, but not too bad. Its a little annoying when their songs are over-played on the radio though. My friend at school absolutely loves them!

I can't believe think that only 'goths' Listen to this sort of music, and I would like you please to think before you write something that may insult people. There are alot of people who listen to rock heavy meatal and punk music Eg:
Punks, skaters, moshers etc evan some chavs listen to it but they probably wouldn't tell their mates...

They rock! A lot of people say they're overrated because most of them probably only listened to Bring Me to Life and My Immortal, and possibly Going Under and Everybody's Fool. If you judge them by those singles, then it's sort of like, what's the word... judging someone by their outer appearance, I guess. You should listen to some of their other good songs before deciding.

Off-topic to my post above, but I saw someone could play My Immortal. I bought the Fallen piano book and I can play Bring Me to Life, My Immortal, Haunted, Tourniquet, Imaginary, and Hello.

I do think you must be qiute stupid to think that only 'goths' Listen to this sort of music, and I would like you please to think before you write something that may insult people. There are alot of people who listen to rock heavy meatal and punk music Eg:

I can play the first parts of them But you have to stretch out for Everybody's Fool and Going Under which annoys me >.<

There is no reason to poke fun at one another's typographical errors.
I hardly think CD was lecturing you, he was merely responding to what you said and giving an opinion about it. But I am lecturing you.
Is it impossible for us to even have an intelligent discussion about music without fighting and calling eachother names. Cut it out, all of you. This goes for you too CD, you could've been slightly more curteous in your response.

It's of my opinion that the majority of people that identify Evanescence with Gothism and Depression are really only looking on the surface. That's like looking at a tiny bit of ice sticking out the water and saying "Oh, that's just a tiny bit of ice, it can't hurt me." And then your giant unsinkable ship runs into it, and the massage iceberg beneath the surface of the water punctures lots of tiny holes in your hull, and then Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio go down with the ship, and he freezes to death while she gets lives to be an old lady that throws an extremely valuable necklace into the Atlantic ocean...
Ok... moving on from that. Let's take an in-depth look at some of Evanescence's songs, and not just the ones on Fallen, which aren't my favourites.
While Amy Lee does dress gothic, and some of the songs are dark and carry that depressed theme. Not all of their songs are like that, quite a few are about love, and several seem to have been inspired by the story of Romeo & Juliet. I'll just name a handful here: Even In Death, So Close, Anywhere, Before The Dawn, Anything For You. While others are quite religious in nature: October, Give Unto Me, Lies, Forgive Me.
Though the band may've gained popularity for their other songs, these are the ones I like.
And while we're talking about me, let me say one thing. I am a poser. I won't deny it. I can dress sporty, goth, punk, preppy, hippie, all in one week. I listen to every type of music, from Eminem to Metallica, from Linkin Park (yes Linkin Park) to Britney Spears, from Madonna to U2. And I love it all. I refuse to tie myself down to one sort of style of anything, be it clothing, music, or lifestyle. If that makes me a poser, then fine, I'm a poser, and a damned proud one at that.
(and I'm not even gonna respond to the thing about Linkin Park, because no one wants to hear that)

Yes, the band has an acceptable sound, and Amy's voice is decent. My whole point is that the band gets too much publicity for what they do, and their theme isn't exactly original. It's just too bad that they're being so...what's the word I want to use...commercialized. I don't want to see them go the way of some other bands. Oh yes, I also found it funny that most of the people in this topic replied to my original post as if were evil, and hinting that I would be jumped on, because that doesn't bother me in the least. Oh yeah, I don't think you're a poser.
