The VMA's 2004 (MTV Video Music Awards 2004)

Did anyone see it last night? I for one, am a little dissapointed. Here's my two cents:

Nominees

Most of the Nominees were very repetitive (Usher, No Doubt, Jay Z etc...) however it's not suprising as they all had hit songs. One thing that bothered me, is that the winners were all the same (Usher, No Doubt). I personally thought artists such as Beyonce and at least Britney Spears deserved something. One category had a few bands I have never heard or seen (Breakthrough Video).

Winners

As stated before, the winners were the same (Usher, No Doubt). However one thing really bothered me, The Best Rock Video winner. Honestly, how is Jet's video the "best" out of all those nominees?!

Performances/Appearances

Were honeslty, very well done. Alicia Keys/Stevie Wonder/Lenny Kravitz had a wonderful performance. Although Hoobastank was a little...bad.

Best Rock Video

This deserves it's own title because I am very suprised at who won. I for one, thought that Evanescence, Linkin Park or Hoobastank would win. Let's compare shall we?

Evanescence, "My Immortal"- Filmed in a gothic part of Italy. Black and white effect. Peaceful, roses/leaves falling everywhere.

Linkin Park, "Breaking The Habit"- Animation. All animation which was drawn very beautifully.

Hoobastank, "The Reason"- A crime scene. A scam. Well thoughout and planned. A great video.

The Darkness- I apologise. I do not know the name of the video. It was, odd but cool in a way.

Jet- I apologise as I do not know the song. However, this was a video in one room (by the looks of it). They were simply playing instruments and singing. Should not have won.

My pick: Evanescence, Linkin Park or Hoobastank.

Finally...

I'm not only ranting about how bad this show was (although it may seem that way) because I truly liked it. Besides the nominations and repetitive winners, I thought it was amazing. So many memorable performances and many cool celebrities.

I saw it. I was hoping something would go wrong. Something I would remember. Nothing went wrong. I barly remember anything. Except it went on past 12:00AM

Clay was not nominated. Naturally I didn't watch it.

Was Kelly Clarkson or anybody like that nominated?

i didnt watch it. for one, i didnt like any of the bands that were nominated or appearing. for two, i dont watch mtv. but i watched last year cause AFI won and i was happy.

I haven't watched it either. I'll probably catch up at a later date but I can never sit through entire award shows. If the performances are as good as you guys say they are I'll watch them at somepoint. I'm not really in any great rush to see them which is just as well because nobody else in my family likes MTV. I would be overruled.

I dislike most music played on the radio. Evanescence is..eh-eh, but I LOVE Coldplay.

I watched a bit of it. Christina looked a bit of a mess, as usual.

Usher is cool! Jay-Z is a sell-out (have you seen the Reebok advert?)

No thanks. It's pure crap to me. It's MTV's wanna-be teeny-bopper awards. I'll stick with the real award shows, thank you. ;)

I didn't watch it, it looked boring. I don't really like MTV anymore. My dad watched it, he said it wasn't very good. I don't think I missed much.

I never watch MTV, but I made an exception to see if Modest Mouse or Franz Ferdinand won anything.

Yeah I watched it. And I was very disappointed at how boring it was, last year was way better. I was very happy to find out that Jay-Z, Maroon 5, and Linkin Park won awards, they deserved it.

I agree with Hey Ya winning special effects, Hey Mama winning choreography, an a couple of others, however as the rest of you have said I'm finding the same group of people keep winning, and not with superior work IMO.
