Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

I rode a Greyhound across the USA for three days. Aside from worrying about crazy people licking me while I slept, I brought tons of books. I ended up not reading them, and had more fun staring out the window counting all the out of state license plates and being fascinated by all the places that were different from home. I was alone on that trip though. Its probably a lot easier to think of something to do when you have someone else to do things with.
I recently went to a party, and the hosts had some little book out on the coffee table. It was filled with useless brain teasers, quick fill-ins, trivia, math questions, logic puzzles, mazes, and black spaces to draw. It was the best thing ever. I think it was invented for long car rides.

I usually just read on long trips.
Or consistently tell my little sister to shut up. That's fun too.

Read, play travel versions of your favourite board games, play word games/hangman, do puzzles, sleep and have plenty of snacks

We play the alphabet game too, but we always played where you couldn't get letters from license plates, just on signs and stuff.

All I do is play Mad Libs, read and play hangman with my brother.
