Who Dies in Harry Potter 7

Written by: Moongewl

We're less than three weeks away from the seventh book, and death predictions are so common, you'd think we worshiped Professor Trelawney. I think that the world deserves the benefit of my opinion, so without further ado, allow me to present the chances of survival for nine characters I consider important.

Harry

While he will probably have multiple near-death experiences that bring him closer to death than anyone should get without dying, I just don't believe J.K. Rowling would do it. It's not really got anything to do with what's in the books. I just don't believe Rowling went into the series knowing that if she finished her series, her character would be dead. Many respected authorities disagree with me (or would if they knew me personally), but they can write their own articles for Pink Ink if my opinion bothers them. It's just what I think.

HOW HE WOULD DIE: Tragically, emotionally, and longwindedly. The entire penultimate chapter would be him dying. Then the final chapter would be about the immediate aftermath of him vanquishing the Dark Lord and other characters dealing with his death. See why I don't want him to die?

Hermione

Maybe, but probably not. Sometimes it feels like she's simply a walking library, but sometimes she has to make the great revelations plain for Harry and Ron.

HOW SHE WOULD DIE: Cut down by a Death Eater while fighting alongside Harry and Ron.

Ron

Of the Trio, Ron has the greatest chance of dying. He's got almost even odds, in my opinion, but is slightly more likely to stay alive than not. There are, however, good reasons for Ron's death if he does die--some have suggested that the chess game in the first book was a prediction of the war against Lord Voldemort.

HOW HE WOULD DIE: Sacrificing himself to save Harry. His death would shake Harry to the core, but would make him strong against Voldemort.

Ginny

Possible but unlikely; what purpose would her death serve? It's still a chance, as it would display Voldemort's ruthlessness, but at the same time, this isn't Spider-Man and Ginny isn't Mary Jane. Thank goodness for that.

HOW SHE WOULD DIE: Unexpectedly. Everyone's sitting around the table in the Burrow and they get word from McGonagall or another member of the Order that Ginny's been poisoned or stabbed or Avada Kedavra-ed.

Neville

The most likely youngster to die. Rowling has described Neville as a "tragic might-have-been" to set alongside Harry. And while he has shown astonishing improvement since the fifth book, I could easily imagine him dying in battle.

HOW HE WOULD DIE: Nobly fighting a Death Eater in one-on-one combat. He's earned that death, and I believe Rowling would grant that nobility to Neville, who has often been considered a disappointment by so many people.

Draco

Probably not. I see him as the penitent mini-Snape, who switches sides before the end and gives Harry valuable advice about Voldemort. Then again, Voldemort might kill him for exactly that reason.

HOW HE WOULD DIE: Hunted down by Voldemort or another Death Eater. He'd also probably get tortured along the way.

Snape

Oh, please let him die. I really, really, really want Snape to be on Voldemort's side, even though I expect us to find out he's not. I've never liked Snape, and I want that dislike justified. But I figure we'll probably discover he was working against Voldemort and only killed Dumbledore because of the Unbreakable Vow, no matter how much I want to believe otherwise, so he won't be killed by the Order, and his double-agentness is still believed by Voldemort and his bunch.

HOW HE WOULD DIE: Accidentally killed by his true allies, right before they discover he's on their side.

Peter Pettigrew

I see Pettigrew doing one of two things: suddenly repenting and coming to Harry's rescue, or trying to come back to the good side and being called a coward. I lean toward the latter, because Pettigrew sometimes seems like the most despicable character of all. He's the coward who sold his friends out to Voldemort for his own protection. However, there is still a chance that he could suddenly find some previously-unknown bravery and leave the Dark side to help Harry.

HOW HE WOULD DIE: Either side could kill him, because he isn't at all that trustworthy and his death wouldn't trouble too many people. His would be a quick, painless death because there's no point in seeing someone so pathetic suffer.

Voldemort

Now here's one character who has absolutely no chance of dying. Oh, wait.

HOW HE WILL DIE: Now this is a fun one! He could be killed by Harry, but I don't think he actually will. Harry will take care of the remaining Horcruxes, but I can't see him actually killing Voldemort, especially not with Avada Kedavra. Instead, I see more of a, "Harry destroys Voldemort, but can't kill him," scenario of some sort. Maybe this is where Snape (or possibly Pettigrew) will step in and take Voldemort out, thus redeeming himself.

So there you have it: who dies, how they die, and how incredibly lame I think it would be to see Harry die.

Moongewl has her cloak ready and her copy of Deathly Hallows reserved.

Paul is the one who kills Voldemort.
