Put an End to Commercialization - Boycott Christmas!

Written by: Dragonfire

Over the years, Christmas and wintertime in general have become less traditional and more commercialized, with companies such as Hallmark cashing in on consumers’ growing need to spend more and more money. Well, I say it’s time someone puts their foot down and stops this poisoning of a holiday, and that someone is me.

Now, obviously, the commercialization of Christmas is too far along and too widespread that nothing can be done about it. As a result, I propose a boycott on the Christmas holiday itself. Now, this idea seems extremely absurd and ridiculous, but my reasoning is legitimate.

Christmas is a holiday for spending time with friends and family, but many companies have commercialized the holiday to the point that it’s solely for determining whose lawn has the most flashing lights, moving elves, blow-up Santas, and other random decorations. In order to make this boycott successful, you must not, under any circumstances, put up or buy any Christmas decorations (this includes inside your home). You also must not put up a Christmas tree or have Christmas dinner. You can, however, give gifts as long as they are not wrapped with Christmas wrapping paper because, as everyone knows, the point of Christmas is to give/receive gifts.

Now, if you just have to celebrate Christmas the “old fashioned” way, you may do all of the things I have pointed out not to do, but you must do them on a much smaller scale. This means that you may put up a miniature Christmas tree, have a Christmas breakfast, and switch your porch light out to a Christmas-y color. After all, the companies who have ruined Christmas will only realize what they’ve done when their miniature trees are out of stock.

Another reason why I want to boycott Christmas is the jolliness that erupts out of the holiday. People are too kind to each other around this holiday, while only a few months earlier they’re scaring everyone to death with their realistic-looking costumes. Winter is the season to become a hermit; to hide away in your home, keeping the cold air in and other people out. We must bring the cold heart of winter back to the world, and shun the jolliness of Christmas!

Of course, just because we’re boycotting Christmas does not mean we’re boycotting the season of winter, because Mother Nature has to make some profit out of spreading snow and cold air across the world. You can all go out and build snowmen, roast chestnuts over an open fire, and make your home look desolate, cold, and wintery, as long as there is nothing to hint at Christmas.

Let us hope that the corporations who ruined Christmas for everyone will finally see what horror they have done, and switch to commercializing Halloween instead of Christmas.
