The Segacorn's Jewel: Part One

Written by: Twizzler0171

We think of Earth as a single layer of life. Sure, we class such things as earthworms and moles as living underground, but still, they live in our layer. And we are wrong, for there is not just one layer, but three. Each can see the other layers, however, not the inhabitants in it.

The bottom 'layer' calls itself Ambar. Dwarfs live here, as well as few humans. Humans, however, are very rare. This is the most dangerous layer, as creatures that would normally only lurk in the dark recesses of our minds make their home in this dark place. However, with danger comes its good side – should you work hard enough, you could make a fortune, for gold and silver are not rare in Ambar.

We are the middle layer. At one point in time, we might have called ourselves something, but it has been lost for many centuries. Perhaps one point in time it may be found again, but until then, we shall remain Earth. We are the most technologically advanced of the three layers, and as a result, have lost control of the magic we might have.

The top layer is called Aranth. Most of the Mythical creatures we have heard about live here, such as Elves and Griffins. Magic is not scarce here, and most beings have it. This layer is generally peaceful, as most of the beings in their spend their time moving away from the clouds.

The easiest way to explain clouds is quicksand. If they stay in them for too long, they get pulled through. However, instead of continuing to be pulled down until the sand ends, the cloud keeps pulling you down until it ends, and then drops you, down to the second layer... Earth.

The blue part of the sky is like their earth – for them, it is solid. A little unstable, perhaps, as the clouds are always pushing their way through the clear blue sky. But it suited their purpose, and most of them were quick enough to move out of the way of the clouds before they arrived.

A young Elf by the name of Karina was experiencing the wrath of the clouds. Well, not entirely, as only her foot was stuck, but it was still a frightening experience for her.

She was basically just a normal Elf. She was of medium height, had blond hair and brown eyes, and she wore a plain brown tunic. Like all Elves, she had a high sense of adventure, however, she didn't always listen to logic.

She breathed out deeply, slowly trying to pull her foot back out of the cloud. After a few minutes, she frowned, realizing it was a losing battle.

She gasped in surprise as something started to tug at the collar on her neck. She struggled for a few moments, before realizing that whoever was pulling her wasn't trying to harm her, but help her. After a few minutes, Karina was freed.

“Young ones! her rescuer proclaimed in distaste. “Third one I've freed this week! When will you youngsters learn to listen to your elders?

Karina turned around slowly, not quite sure what to think. She was quite surprised to see what her rescuer looked like.

She looked like a horse, and was about the size of one, too. From her shoulder-blades, a large pair of wings extended, folding back at mid-point. A medium-sized horn was on her forehead, curling neatly up to a sharp point, a rainbow of colors. Her hooves were the same colors, and those were the only things that disrupted the creamy-white coloring of her hair and mane, other than her eyes, which were a deep brown. Underneath her horn, a diamond jewel was hung, held on by a small chain of silver.

“My name is Nikarin, and I am a Segacorn. she stated, lightly pawing at the air as if it was a fact everyone should have known. She snorted out lightly, staring at Karina. “And you are?

“Karina, and I'm just an Elf, I'm afraid. Karina stated. She had heard of Segacorns before, but they were believed to be myths. They were, basically, a special Pegasus-Unicorn who originated from the sea.

Nikarin snorted once more, trotting a few steps back in surprise. She shook her head, then looked up at Karina once more.

“Perhaps not, she stated softly. “If you would come with me, please?

“Where are we going to go? Karina asked. She was confused, everything was happening far too fast for her to understand. She frowned, looking up at the Segacorn.

Nikarin looked away. “To my home, she stated after awhile. “Not many are allowed there. Consider yourself lucky, Elf.

Karina nodded. She would probably learn more about what was going on later. Until then... it would be best to follow the Segacorn's commands.
