Star Wars Special Edition DVD Box Set
Star Wars. The movie that has spanned over 30 years, made billions of dollars and spawned a new religion in Australia is coming to an end, soon, with the up-and-coming release of "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith". But to mark the end of an era, the Star Wars Special Edition 4 Disc Box Set has been released, containing digitally remastered versions of the original three films and one bonus disc. I myself own it, and let me tell you, it's fantastic! Let's start from the beginning:
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Before I start, here's a tip: go to the toilet, grab a glass of juice and some popcorn and put the cat out, as you will NOT want to be distracted. Now that you have that tip, let's move on.
This film is simply a masterpiece. From the bright yellow logo to the awards ceremony at the end, it's a rollercoaster ride of love, deception, justice, Bigfoot's cousin, a princess' strange hairstyle, and a space station that can blow up planets. The digital enhancements are very noticeable in this film, from the Mos Eisley Space Port to the space shots, you will absolutely love these new features. Unfortunately, the film is still a bit fuzzy, but that's just what makes it Star Wars. With an all star cast of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Alec Guinness, this is the movie that everyone remembers.
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
To me, this is the best movie in the whole saga, and after you've seen it, I'm sure most of you will agree. This movie starts out the way the first did, with the yellow logo and the back story about how they went to the ice world of Hoth. In this movie, there's all kinds of stuff. Visions from dead people, Yeti's, giant machines that could destroy your house in an instant, someone getting frozen, another, their hand cut off, and then the truth about Luke and his father. Now, I won't spoil it for you. I'll just let every TV program that's parodied it do that for you. Introduced in this film are two important characters: Yoda, the small, strange talking green Jedi master and Lando Calrissian, the smooth talking leader of Cloud City. Lando only appears again in the next movie, but Yoda is in the three prequel movies, with 'two having a lightsaber duel that'll make you burst out laughing. Anyway, ON TO EPISODE VI!!!
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Well. The final part of the saga. The movie that ended an era. In this special edition, the scenes on Java's barge have been edited, as has the speeder chase sequence. But the film doesn't have that many edits as the first two, which makes it a bit more enjoyable.
Yet again, big yellow words floating in space. But this time we find out that there is another Death Star being created, and the rebels know about it. We also see the Emperor in real life for the first time. We discover some more of Luke's family secrets, plus an intense lightsaber battle and some cute, furry, bear-like creatures called Ewoks. For those that haven't seen the movie before, I won't spoil the ending, but I will say they have added two extra scenes at the end, when they are showing the different planets. They now show scenes of Coruscant and Naboo.
So, after having watched these three DVD's, most of you will be thinking, "Oh, that was great! But is that all?" Well, I can tell you, that that is NOT all! Like I said before, it's a FOUR disc box set. Yes, it has a bonus fourth disc, which has (among other things) an exclusive "Making Of…" documentary and an exclusive Behind-The-Scenes look at the big lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan-Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
Well, I hope you enjoy these films and bonus disc as much as I did and that you spread the word on to others, just as I have to you.
"May The Force Be With You!"
