'I, Robot' Review

Written by: Bno

'I, Robot', starring Will Smith is a film about (if you didn’t guess from the title) robots. The movie revolves around the greatly emphasized use of robots in 2035 and portrays them as being an every day experience for most people, much like computers are used today. They deliver packages, save people's lives, help around the home and perform many other jobs that were once performed by human beings. The robots are controlled by a “three law safe which stop them from being able to harm humans allows them to defend themselves, as long as in doing so they does not attack a human being.

The main character, Spooner, played by Will Smith, is a detective who is investigating a case where the possibility that a robot (who goes by the name of Sonny) violently murdered a human is the case. This character is not a fan of the robots, and it is very clearly seen by his behaviour with them, he finds himself continually at ends with them.

The Movie overall

The special effects team has created the look of these robots, and this has been portrayed well and in a somewhat futuristic way. They all appear the same: human shaped with brown eyes. If you look carefully, you’ll see that Sonny actually has blue eyes, rather than brown, which shows some he is from the rest of the robots.

I enjoyed how the robots spoke all in unison, it made me laugh, but, as some of you may know, I’m a bit of a nutter and laugh at a lot of things.

Plot

The plot has been laid out well. It has been made clear how the corruption of the robots came about. Spooner is the only person that we encounter who believes the robots are bad and thus it makes it challenging for him. It is interesting how he uses different skills and strategies to work things out.

The deleted scenes, that can be seen on the DVD, show one scene of a hologram with the doctor. This is a cleverly done scene, but sadly, was taken out of the film. Spooner follows a “trail of bread crumbs, set out very well within the film and an interesting use of holograms and CGI were used.

A very enjoyable film to watch and I would recommend it for others to watch. Some unexpected things happen within.

Overall, I felt 'I, Robot' was a good movie: good stunts, brilliant use of CGI and excellent acting. It was interesting and I was drawn into the plot. 'I, Robot' gives us an interesting perspective on the possible future (plus, who wouldn't want one of those Robots!). I would recommend it to everyone.

Now I feel like watching it again, but alas, it's too late, so go and check 'I, Robot' out and send me money to buy one.
