The first batch of Moderator positions for 2009 are now officially open! Are you an active member of this community who wants to help shape it and grow into something bigger and better? Come here and read the application form. (Serious applications only.)

As Moderators are expected to log into the oekakis every weekday and into the private staff forum, the position of Moderator will require a significant time investment on your part so make sure you are in a position to commit approximately 1 hour per day.

The Oekaki Rules Have Been Updated

The oekaki rules have been updated into a few simple easy-to-remember rules. To make things even more simple and easy-to-remember, the updated rules apply to all three oekakis. Come on over and read them here.

Included in the rules are our strike policies; what will happen if a rule is broken and what repercussions the offender can expect. Thanks for making this a great community everyone and keep on truckin'.

diva_brat Steps Down as Administrator and Changes to the Oekaki

diva_brat has stepped down as Administrator. While her time here was short, a big thanks go to diva_brat for overseeing the oekaki during its time of transition.

I will be taking over the administration of the Pink Poogle Toy oekaki until further notice. Rules will all be revised based on feedback received from the membership to date. Comments and feedback can be sent to kym@kymhuynh.com for anyone who wants to have their input.

There were loud protests against the current rules at this oekaki which many perceived to be "too harsh". The rules will be revised over the next few days and a fresh set of rules will be uploaded to the oekaki.

The next 4 weeks will be a time of change and revision so I hope you're all ready for a shake up.

The Oekaki Gets a Makeover!

Howdy PPTers. I had a random burst of inspiration today and went ahead and updated the design of Oekaki Main, Oekaki Advanced and Oekaki Sketch to bring these oekakis up to the next level. All the original oekaki templates can still be accessed by going to "Edit Profile" so have a play around. Enjoy!

Safety Saves

From now on we require that you use the Safety Save feature built into the Oekaki. It can only hold one SS per person, and it will delete that SS in 14 days. If you draw a second picture, while you have one in the SS, and you choose to SS your newest picture it will delete the older one, so make sure you only have one SS at a time. Any safety saves that show up on the board from this point on will be deleted! - Wednesday, 28 April 2009

Anywayy this is number 1 I guess.

Purposely disformed arms and small legs/feet.
and simple shaded everything but the skin.
I think this style of things is too simple orz. But it still took me awhile to get everything clean and how I wanted it to look.

The small feet and heavier top is also an interesting perspective.

i believe that a simple style can be just as 'advanced' as a super duper realistic one. A photorealist just needs to put all the details in, but a cartoonist has to know exactly which details to include and which not to, for a tiny dash can change the whole feel of a picture.

What were you going for in this image? I would have to agree, a floating head seems to make little sense. As far as anatomy goes I would suggest looking at pictures of yourself and your friends and use them as references to practice with. Believe me, it really helps with getting features to look right. I see potential, but I also say no. With some practice I hope to see you try out again!

I too must ask what the white things are? I will suggest the same thing I did on PC's last tryout, try for a greater definition in your character-- the best way to do this is with lineart. This also needs to have more of a background, the blue is very boring.

Oh honey...well your color scheme is beautiful, yellow and blue work very nicely together, but most of this picture is very blurry and there isn't much distinction between subject and scene. Try some lineart or a better definition of character (avoid the blur tool for large areas). Keep practicing though! A no for now. smiley

i agree with shanks. just a tip, airbrush isn't good for drawing. its basically good for making like, background gradients, or making highlights, blush, etc. to make your character more definitive, try using watercolors or solids and make a sketch before you draw! don't blur stuff together. smiley

The effort you put into this is stunning, all I can suggest is just keep studying human anatomy and you will see progress~

Also, I find that un-tapered 1px lines look a lot neater (for some reason) than tapered ones like you did for your mushrooms.
It might make em look a bit more realistic and less 2D.
All I can really suggest is practice practice practice and say In~!
Lets hope someone else comes to judge you too XD;

Whoa inactivity. Apologies for delayed review.

You have definitely improved since your last tryout! I think this is lovely, I especially like the sketchy quality, it's sort of like a childrens book. Your figure drawing is much better as well, and the clouds and details are all very nice, but I agree that it is a little simple for a tryout. Try for a full background instead of just a pattern, and add even more detail to the main subject. I would like to see more of your work and continued improvement. smiley

Wow, this is all solids right? That's some seriously awesome hatching, I don't think I've seen solid shading this nice for a really long time. The only thing that bugs me on this is the background, but Saget himself turned out marvelous. Good job!
