Revision as of 06:23, 24 June 2008

Makes sense?

"The item categories that Neopets uses aren't the most inclusive. For example, all of the concert freebies (posters, plushies, mugs, etc.) are placed into the "Concert Swag" category. You can't find these special groupings on Neopets, however. ...to be added..."

Is it just me, or does the above paragraph not make any sense at all? o_o --Macbeth 23:24, 5 Jul 2007 (UTC)

I believe what is being referred to is the Special (item type) article...in which case, that paragraph should not be here, but there. --Jacob 04:17, 6 Jul 2007 (UTC)
After another revision, it seems the section is supposed to refer to items with have the "special tag" on them when seen in a users inventory. Will update it properly. ;) --Jacob 19:17, 8 Jul 2007 (UTC)

Item status

My last edit to the "Item status" section seemed to make the most sense to me, but now it's been reverted to its former version (in a way). Active? Searchable? Not Announced? These are not terms used on neopets, but used by Neopets item databases to help sort items in their database. Instead, listing reasons why an item isn't accessible on Neopets yet makes much more sense. --Jacob 14:11, 9 Jul 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, people don't think like that...they think the way the databases talk. I agree, it doesn't make much sense, but since when did sense have anything to do with anything? --Freefalldreams 23:16, 3 Dec 2007 (UTC)
An encyclopaedia must be accessible... So, yes, sense has a lot to do with it. --Macbeth 18:21, 4 Dec 2007 (UTC)
Except that, as I said, people think in the terms they read all the time. Therefor, I think that using those terms makes an article more accessible. --Freefalldreams 18:18, 26 Dec 2007 (UTC)
This item status section is not only ridiculous because of its use of classification that was created by NeoItems.net (and then not used, like your listing of the item types but not giving them a name), it is ridiculous because some of what it says regarding the NeoItems' terminology is incorrect or at very least, poorly worded. If you are going to insist on including them, get them correct. Might I add that putting the total number of items in each category is a waste of time, as it changes daily. Might I also add that you've omitted a couple categories, like Paint Brush Clothing... which does not have a ID number. As far as Neopets is concerned, every item that is released for user use (other than the previously mentioned PB clothing which can not be removed from a user's closet), including Mall items, have ID numbers. The status of the items is only valid as an external definition, as every item from TNT's point of view is named, has an ID number and image. I will correct this section if it is deemed to be included. --Cath 23:01, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

The "Item status" section is merely to speak of the item creation process for new items, and where old ones have gone. There are no official names and titles for them, and while NeoItems has created such names for them that the collective can agree on, using them seems a little off in my eyes.

I agree with the number of items bit. Needs to be taken out, because there is no way to properly gauge how many such items are corresponding to certain times.

On NC Mall items and clothing from paint brushes, it think they can be excluded from regular items, because they are never placed within a users inventory. --Jacob 21:07, 16 Jun 2008 (CDT)

Technically, users can remove NC items from their closet into their Inventory... doing so is a bit pointless, as the only thing one can do with the item is put it back into the closet.
I'm not sure that I understand what you do think should be discussed in this section... simply that, despite the fact that TNT announces items, they are not always actually purchasable on the site because TNT hasn't activated them to sell in shops? That once an item becomes searchable in the sidebar or Shop Wiz, that means it has become possible to buy it in shops? and that the true name of an item can not be known for sure until it does so?
I'll add that a similar thing happens to newly-released petpet colors. Users can't actually paint a petpet the color it is announced in until it has been listed in the Petpet Puddle. --Cath 22:08, 16 Jun 2008 (CDT)
