The Pile of Soot is a Petpet that is only available from the Petpet Laboratory. According to the item description, a Pile of Soot is the result of a Petpet Lab Ray malfunction. Because Petpets that have been zapped by the Petpet Lab Ray revert back to their original form when removed from their Neopet, the Pile of Soot can not be placed in a user's inventory and thus cannot be sold or traded.
Colours[edit]
The Pile of Soot cannot be painted normally with a Petpet Paint Brush. It currently has three colours.

If your Petpet turns into a Pile of Soot, you will receive the Petpet Laboratory avatar.
Trivia[edit]
- A Neopet with a Pile of Soot attached to it cannot be put into the Pound.
- A Pile of Soot Petpet was once spotted in the Trading Post as a rarity 98-99 item.
- On December 9, 2008 a Christmas Pile of Soot was released as an Advent Calendar prize. This is probably the only way to get a Pile of Soot without access to the Petpet Laboratory.
