The Ill Uni from the NeoHospital

A Disease is any type of sickness which can come over a users Neopet. Pets do not simply recover from a disease with time, instead, each disease has its own unique cure, a certain item that must be used on your pet in order to cure it. While sick a Neopet will continue to lose hit points, be unable to fight in the battledome, and become more misreble until it's cured. They can be diagnosed at the NeoHospital, and the cures can be bought at Neopian Pharmacy or other such stores. A disease can also be cured at the Healing Springs in Faerieland, but may several visits as all effects of the Healing Springs are random.

Diseases can occur as Random Events, or may be triggered by an item such as Rotten Omelette. Chance-based areas of the website can also affect a users Neopet, such as the Wheel of Excitement which features a different Disease your Neopet can be afflicted with every few months. Also, some weapons of the battledome have been known to cause sickness, as have 1-Player Challengers.

As of July 25, 2006, there is a current total of 35 diseases, but new ones are always being added to the game.

Disease Causing Items

Disease causing items are either food or battledome weapons. Some people enjoy making opponents pets sick with weapons in the battledome. Infecting a pet with food is usually a newbie mistake, but is sometimes practiced as a way of giving a pet a different disease with a cheaper cure.

Foods

Ferocious Negg

May give your pet a random disease. It is available from the Negg Faerie. Probably one of the most commonly used disease causing items, because it can also increase a pet's strength. Only price effective for pets that can no longer use the training school. The Strength Serum is also recommended for this purpose.

Poisonous Jelly

May give your pet Neomonia. Just buy another jelly if you get it from the Giant Jelly, they are plenty and cheap.

Poisonous Lollypop

May give your pet floppy tongue. Given out by Jhudora sometimes for completing a level one quest.

Poisonous Mushroom

May give your pet Neopox. This is a retired and rare item from the apocathary, which means keep it, because it's a collectable. It costs about 10-12 thousand NP, so users who buy it likely know not to feed it to their pet.

Rotten Omelette

May cause Ugga-Ugga. If you get this at the Giant Omelette, don't feed it to your pet. Buy another omelette off the Shop Wizard if it is hungry.

Weapons

A pet gets a disease from a weapon not by equipping it, but by having an opponent attack them with that weapon in the battledome. Most disease causing weapons include poison in their name, but a few do not.

Buzz Poison Blaster

May cause blurry vision. It is multiple use, but is a species weapon andvery over-priced for its icons. It is unlikely to be seen in the battledome.

Coral Cutlass

May cause fuzzy fungus or itchy scratchies. This weapon is unavailable to the Neopian public and was used by the Cannon Master in the War for New Maraqua. The Cannon Masters use of this item caused cure prices for fuzzy fungus and itchy scratchies to skyrocket.

Darkness Scarab

May cause Itchy Scratchies. Does block all light but is in the price range of superior items like the Sword of Skarsden. Will be in a gallery before it's in a weapon set.

Mistletoe Potion

May cause Hoochie Coochies. A once per battle weapon that does 7-8 icons of damage. Weaker than Illusens Potion, but in the price range of Honey Potion. Too expensive to be seen in the battledome.

Mysterious Hemlock Dart and Super Hemlock Dart

May cause bloaty belly. The only difference between the two is icon variety. A single use six icon weapon that costs about 600 NP. You may see this used occasionally by a mean-spirited battler.

Poison Dart and Super Poison Dart

May cause cricky neck. Icons are exactly the same for the Super Poison Dart. A single use four icon weapon that costs about 300 NP. Doesn't do as much damage as Mysterious Hemlock Dart, but may still show up occasionally.

Poison Muffin

May cause illness (unverified disease). A single use fifteen icon weapon. Two expensive for iconage, especially for only one use, unlikely to be seen in the battledome.

Poison Snowball

May cause hoochie coochies. A weak single use weapon that can be bought for 1 NP. A classic among battledome irritants.

Poison Tipped Dagger

May cause Neowarts. The only cheap multiple use poisoning weapon. (It can be bought for about 2000 NP.) Many battlers keep one in their Safety Deposit Box for battles where they want to get back at friends or irritate strangers.

Poison Snowflake

May cause hoochie coochies. Sells for about 200 NP, over a hundred times more expensive than the Poison Snowball for less icons. Don't expect it ever to be used in the battledome.

Portable Cloud

May cause watery eyes. A very solid battledome weapon that is given by Jhudora at level 47, and is therefore virtually nonexistant.

Vile Swamp Water

May cause watery eyes. A multiple use six icon weapon that would be great for beginners, if it didn't cost over a million NP. If bought, it will be for a gallery, not battle.

Species Specific

Some Neopets species can become sick by eating certain foods that otherwise do not make a pet sick at all.

  • Kyriis can get Itchy Scratchies from apples.
  • Quiggles get neezles from eating ice cream, and other "cream" foods, because they are cold blooded and their blood changes temperature according to their surroundings.
  • Tonu can get sick from a Melted Chocolate Negg.
  • Skeith can get sick from cheese items.
