:Littlemac? My apologies for not getting to this right away. you are right, it is biased, and should be changed in accordance with being fair. i created it as such in the past because i was being overly paranoid, seeing a page of a program i knew so little of, with the information that it was controversial in what it could. but yes, this should be changed, because all programs outside of neopets are to be used at a users own risk, and ImproveNeo is no different, right?

:Btw, i noticed you have joined up with NeoItems.net. I think this is fascinating, as neoitems is praised as being the best of the best (or at least that i know of). I congradulate you. I also "favorited" your youtube movie on showing ImproveNeo in action (at least i think that was you). :)

Well, considering it is still in dispute how far ImproveNeo contradicts the terms and conditions, while it is pretty much cert that the others don't, I don't see there being a problem with commenting on how it is controversial... --Macbeth 05:50, 15 Aug 2006 (CDT)

:I disagree. It is true that it may go against the T&C, but the others may too. Specifically the IDB Toolar. Even Neodaq/shop.xls probaly go against the T&C. Unless you want to put the statement on all of those, I think a sentence reading, "Some of these programs may be against the Neopets Terms & Conditions (link). Use at your own risk." put at the top of the page is sufficient. Littlemac 16:49, 17 Aug 2006 (CDT)

The IDB Toolbar does not violate the T&C... It allows you to search the IDB, which is not part of Neopets.com, and links to areas on Neopets.com.... And Neodaq's .XLS tool does not interfere with the game at all, it is the same as you writing down your stock prices on a peice of paper, effectively. It does not tell you what to do, or do it for you... It just reads...

You say you disagree with me when I say I think there should be a note saying the ImproveNeo is controvesial, but you don't propose to do anything different to what I do...

Although, as the Neodex should be as detailed as possible, it would be logical to be specific in refering to which tools are in dispute as to whether they violate the T&C or not. --Macbeth 18:04, 17 Aug 2006 (CDT)

:The IDB Toolar also allows you to search the shopwiz from it, therefore allowing you to perform certain actions faster. If ImproveNeo is breaking the T&C, I can see no way that IDB is not.

:"And Neodaq's .XLS tool does not interfere with the game at all, it is the same as you writing down your stock prices on a peice of paper, effectively. It does not tell you what to do, or do it for you... It just reads...". Firstly, ImproveNeo does nothing 'for you' either. Secondly, Neodaq.xls does provide buy recommendations to you.

:Apologies, I didn't disagree with you on the controversial point, but on the T&C point.

:Thanks, mac
Most of the departments of PinkPT have been spawn from PinkPT itself, rather than taken by mutual agreement (IDB being the obvious exception) or 'force', as too are all the dozens of guides... and all the stuff on the forums... etc. Of course, I could be missing something here (PinkPT may have bought up all the shares in Time Warner AOL, for all I know), but that's just my opinion... --Macbeth 23:34, 29 Jul 2006 (CDT)
::I think Yukio is ugly...There, now it's in dispute. ;)
Basics
After creating an account, players can have up to four different pets. Multiple accounts (up to four, according to the rules) can be created in order to have more pets, but using these accounts to gain an unfair advantage is prohibited.

As of July 2005, there are 50 Neopet species available, with most being fictionalized versions of real animals. For example, the Nimmo is a stylized frog, the Blumaroo is kangaroo-like, and the Pteri is a bird-like species. There are also Neopets versions of popular fantasy creatures, such as dragons (Draiks) and unicorns (Unis). Users can customize their pets by selecting gender, colour (with initial choice of red, blue, yellow, or green for most Neopets, with the exception of the Grundo, which can initially be purple, brown or white, as well), personality, and name (which must be unique, that is, all Neopets must have names that are different from all other Neopets).

Players must care for and feed their pets (although Neopets will never die). They can also read books and battle each other in a Battledome in a style akin to popular Computer role-playing game such as Pokémon. Neglecting a Neopet will result in their unhappiness, which may have consequences such as turning blue.

Neopians can give their pets a different colour past the basic choices, such as purple and grey, if they purchase or find (in a rare event) a paint brush. Paint brushes can also change pets into different styles such as "Pirate" or "Royal". Some colours cannot be obtained from a paint brush. Robot, for instance, can only be achieved by using the Secret Laboratory. The Fountain Faerie can also paint a pet almost any colour, but first the player must complete a quest that is given randomly on rare occasions.

Neopians gain the Neopoints to care for their pets and purchase items primarily by playing games. Items are then purchased in either main shops, which are automatically restocked by the game, or in user-owned shops (which are maintained by many players as another way to earn Neopoints).

If a Neopian is caught breaking the rules as stated in the Neopets Terms and Conditions, their account will be "frozen". If an account is frozen, it means that the account is not at all accessible by the user. If wrongfully accused, there is a response form to contact Neopets. Unfortunately, the Neopets team does not always respond promptly, and may sometimes take up to a month or more to reply.

Neopets has announced a premium service, which gives some additional options.

Once Neopians become comfortable with the basics, they can begin spending their Neopoints on items beyond caring for their pets. Popular goals include obtaining Paint Brushes and other items which can change a pet into another colour (which, in the Neopets world, includes completely different styles). Petpets (pets for your pet) are also quite popular. There are even Petpetpets, small critters attached to a Petpet. Any of these goals can cost an enormous amount of Neopoints, and dedicated users will devote months to their acquisition.

Part of the reason why Neopets is so widely-used is that it is continually changing: new items, games, and plots (such as Hannah and the Ice Caves or Curse of Maraqua) are introduced almost every day. The ability to amass large amounts of Neopoints and rare items is a challenge for competitive players, and someone who keeps up with the latest news has a greater chance of being the first one to obtain a rare item (and sell it before it drops in value) or to earn a top score in a new game.

Neopets has also installed "Neopets Jr.," a basic version of the site catering to those new to Neopets or to the very young.

Environment
See also: Neopia

The entire game takes place on (or in orbit around) the fictional planet of Neopia. The main setting is Neopia Central, a city where the main stores are based. There are also different themed settings, called worlds: Tyrannia (prehistoric), Faerieland (faeries), the upcoming Altador (alternate faeries/Ancient Greece), Mystery Island (Polynesian), Haunted Woods (Halloween/spooky), Krawk Island (pirates), Lost Desert (Ancient Egypt|Ancient Egyptian), Terror Mountain (winter/Christmas), Virtupets Space Station (Space Station), Kreludor (moon), Meridell (medieval), and Brightvale (medieval with an emphasis on knowledge and enlightenment, à la the Renaissance).

There are also mini worlds and sub-worlds, such as Roo Island, Kiko Lake, and the newly added Lost City of Geraptiku. Each of these worlds (which are, in reality, more like regions or settings) has unique shops, games, and activities pertaining to its theme.

These worlds are generally introduced through in-game plots that involve their discovery or destruction. For example, Maraqua (underwater) was originally destroyed by Captain Dread and his pirates in one plotline, but has been rebuilt and reopened as a result of the "Curse of Maraqua" storyline.

There have also been hints of the other side of Neopia, since only one side of the planet is shown. It is believed this is where Jelly World and Altador are located. It is possible that it will be revealed in Winter 2006, as that is when the Jelly World movie will be released, which may lead to the 'official' release of Jelly World, and so on.

Gameplay
There are many activities a Neopets player can perform to advance towards a goal. They can train their pets to become fighters to participate in the occasional wars that occur, usually when new worlds are discovered. They can also become merchants, collecting and selling expensive items. People can also send in their drawings or stories and become known for their creative skills.

Most of the games on the site are divided into three categories: puzzle, action, and luck/chance.

Flash/Shockwave games
Most of the games on the site are Macromedia Flash or Macromedia Shockwave games, which require certain software to be installed on the player's computer. Many are similar to older games&mdash;for example, Meerca Chase II is very similar to Snake while Korbats Lab is like Breakout.

The action games are arcade-like games. They include games like "Hannah and the Ice Caves," a multileveled game where you guide the characters Hannah and her sidekick Armin through increasingly difficult icy caves while collecting treasure and avoiding snow beasts. Puzzle games are games requiring some thought during gameplay. Luck/chance games include various slot machine games such as Brucey B Slots and other gambling themed games.

Scores from these games may be sent three times a day, for up to 1,000 Neopoints per game, proportional to the score. Highly skilled users may earn a Trophy or an Avatar.

Other games
There are also numerous PHP games (which are more accessible to players with slower computers), such as "NeoQuest" and "Plushie Tycoon," as well as card games like "Pyramids" and "Scarab 21". NeoQuest and NeoQuest II are classic RPGs where players fight monsters and defeat villains. Plushie Tycoon allows the player to simulate running a business which sells Neopets plushies. Also in this category are a daily crossword ("Faerie Crossword"), a dice game ("Dice-a-roo"), and a version of Minesweeper, ("Neggsweeper").

Plots
:Main Article: Plot

Plots are presented in a comic book format which results in some kind of climax that players can participate in (such as a war or a series of puzzles). For those plots that have involved wars, players are sometimes given the option to choose a side to support. Fighters are given a series of enemies to fight in the battledome in order to gain points for their side, and "supporters" could collect items or play games instead of fighting. The Lost Desert Plot which began in September of 2005 did not have a war. players were instead invited to solve a complex series of puzzles to help save the day.

The Neopian arch-villain, Dr. Sloth, is prominently featured in several site-wide stories. His greatest achievements were the enslavement of the Grundos, an alien-like race, and his creation of the Transmogrification Potions, which change the appearance or species of a Neopet into a Mutant version.

Collections
Many players choose to collect certain items&mdash;often those that are rare or expensive&mdash;and place them in a gallery. Other types of collections include virtual trading cards (not to be confused with actual TCG cards), stamps, and coins, all of which can be collected in albums. Neohomes can be bought for a certain number of Neopoints for each room, allowing players to collect items for their homes. Furniture may be placed in the Neohomes, and additional amenities (lights, insurance, etc.) can be purchased. The goal is usually to try to win a spotlight award or to show off items and collections.

Extra things to do
Writing and art contests
Neopets also offers different writing and art contests. One such example is the Neopian Times, a weekly newspaper that includes short stories, a question-and-answer editorial, comics (animated and traditional), story series, and articles. There is also a Poetry Competition which runs approximately twice a week and a Storytelling contest where users submit the next part of a short story. Players can also contribute pictures of their pets for voting or display in a gallery or create their own levels of certain games.

Shops
In addition to the regular shops, every player can sell items at his or her own shop, sometimes at a profit. As in real life, the goal of dedicated sellers is to buy items for a low price (either at other player shops or at the game-run shops) and sell them for a high price. (There is also a Trading Post that can be used to trade expensive items and an Auction House.) Buying items at the main Neopian shops in order to resell them is called restocking (since it involves waiting until the shop restocks) and can be very profitable for a player with luck and a fast internet connection.

Neoschool
Neoschool is a place you can send your Neopets. They will choose which classes they take and recieve a report card to tell you how well they are doing.

Currently Neoschool is still being written, it is not on any of the maps.

Community
Neopets, throughout its past, has always had a community in which users can chat and contact each other, either by Neomail (on-site email) to send private messages or "Neoboards", the Internet forums, which are often treated more like chat rooms than internet forums.

As with all internet communities, there is possible danger in giving personal information to strangers. Therefore, players who register as under 13 must submit a document by fax or letter with a parent's signature to the website's address in order to access any of the site's communication features, in compliance with COPPA.

Guilds
Users with similar interests can create or join Guilds, which are basically clubs. These usually have a theme, such as the "Faerie Guild" or the "Nimmo Lovers Guild." Guilds dedicated to certain causes, goals, or mutual interests such as helping the poorer Neopians and/or new players, collecting Avatars, getting more Neopointss, or real life interests. There are forums inside of the guilds, only accessible to members of that group. Guilds may also offer certain advantages to members such a guild Shops and lotteries to provide free food/items, "Newbie packs", and helpful tips. Different guilds also have different requirements for advancing in rank, usually accompanied by the appropriate increase in benefits and status.

Neoboards
:Main Article: NeoBoard

Another aspect of Neopets is the community that develops on the 24 NeoBoards. Some of the more popular ones include:

*Avatars/Neosignatures: Discussions include the method of obtaining new avatars, help on obtaining avatars, designing a font compatible with certain avatars, scattered Font discussion, and games.
*Battledome: Many announcements regarding recent accomplishments in the battledome, due to the fact that it is the home of some of the wealthiest users and strongest pets. Usually, if there are any problems with hackers or with duplicated items, the members of this chat are the first ones affected.
*Evil Things and Monster Sightings: This board consists mostly of users identifying themselves as 'emo' or 'goth', and is typically used for general chat
*Fan Clubs:This board replaced General Chat in popularity upon its deletion and covers a range of topics.
*Help Chat/Newbie Chat: This is the place to go to get help using an account. Help Chat is more likely to be on topic.
*Trading Post/Auction:: the board consists mainly of people who spend their time trading for profits.
*Jelly World Chat: This board is "hidden", and how to access it is a well-known "secret".
*Roleplaying: The main purpose of this board is a venue for the players to roleplay.
*Shop Ads: This board contains people selling and buying things in their shops, and working out prices with other people.

Several regular players named "Moderators" moderate the board. Users can self-moderate as well, by reporting a message they deem unsuitable for Neopets. There is also a filter which prevents a user from using profanity or lewd conduct on the site. However, many users often use symbols or spaces or a combo of them to use profanity, and it isn't filtered.

Controversy and criticism
While some educators and parents affirm the value of Neopets as a place for children to learn the basics of things like supply and demand, economics, stocks, and even HTML, others criticize it for its liberal placement and promotion of their sponsors' products, a technique they have dubbed "Immersion Advertisement".

Much of the company's revenue is gained through promotion of sponsors and their products and they have long accomplished this without a single banner or pop-up advertisement. However, in October 2004, a considerable number of banners that link to external websites such as eBay (instead of linking to various areas on the Neopets website itself as they had previously) were introduced. These banners are displayed on many site pages in three places, one at the top of the page, one at the bottom, and the other on a sidebar, making avoidance of advertisements increasingly difficult. However, the creators of Neopets have promised never to allow pop-up ads on the site.

The primary method of advertising is still through creating items based on sponsor products (such as "Baby Bottle Pops", a real candy found in many American stores) or offering rare items, Neopoints, or, in one case, a special pet (the "Ice Bori") in return for signing up for sponsors' services. Neopets also features many games for sponsors, such as "The Incredibles Split-Shot".

While immersive advertising is doubtlessly effective, some believe this constitutes subliminal advertising and is therefore immoral, particularly considering the target demographic is children. Others disagree, pointing to the fact that not only are many of the sponsors' offers now grouped on one page and are somewhat avoidable, but that no user is ever required to sign up for these offers. Neopets claims these offers and sponsor ads are only to keep the site free.

The introduction of a premium service in which advertisements are removed and special gifts given for sign-up has also sparked controversy, with users stating that Neopets has started "selling Neopoints", something prohibited under the site's terms and conditions.

In October of 2004, while McDonald's Corporation was promoting Neopets plushies in their Happy Meals, a story on the Australian news show Today Tonight featured a nine-year-old boy claiming that the site requires one to gamble in order to receive enough Neopoints to feed one's Neopet, or else it is sent to an orphanage. While much of this is factually incorrect (gambling is not required, nor are pets ever sent to an orphanage if they are not fed), it is true that the website has a number of games of chance that are directly based on real-life games like blackjack, poker, and even lottery scratchcards. Neopets had prohibited users under the age of 13 to use most games that involve gambling.

This article sparked a nation-wide controversy as concerned parents voiced their complaints about the website, prompting McDonalds to pressure Neopets into temporarily blocking Australian accounts from accessing games of chance for the duration of the promotion, which ended on November 5th. When this happened, countless complaints appeared on Neopets itself when even Australians able to legally gamble could not access any game of chance on the website. Complaints quickly died down after users realized that by merely changing the country setting on their user preferences the temporary ban could be bypassed.

Still others believe that the users of Neopets are poorly treated and considered nothing more than mere statistics, that the site has lost its friendliness over the years, and that the level of customer service has degraded considerably. Many users believe that the Neopets staff freeze accounts too often and without good reason; data from Yamipoli.com, which rates virtual pet sites, shows the frozen user amount is 45%. Users are allowed to report one another; some of these "reports" are not thoroughly checked and thus, unnecessary freezing occurs. Bugs and glitches on games can also account for some of these freezings.

Accounts are also often frozen because of the actions of someone else&mdash;other than the original account number&mdash;using the account. Because many Neopets players are young or relatively new to the Internet, they can be particularly vulnerable to "scams" that attempt to trick them into giving out their passwords.

Some dispute Neopets' registered users count, which has reached over 99 million, a figure Neopets often cites in promotional campaigns. A large percentage of these users are multiple secondary accounts owned by one person, frozen accounts or accounts no longer in use. Such accounts are never deleted, and even accounts that have not been accessed since the creation of the site linger. The actual number of active accounts is around 11 million and the number of individual users is almost certainly less than this.

And because Neopets is based in America, playing certain games like visiting the Snowager becomes difficult because they are based on Neopets time (which is the same as , the current time in California where Neopets Headquarters is based). Because of this some users feel cheated out of the full Neopets experience, while other users around the world take advantage of the time zone differences, playing Count Von Roos Deadly Dice in the morning, while it take place at midnight Neopets Time.

It has also been rumoured that Neopets is closely affiliated with the controversial Church of Scientology through CEO Doug Dohring . The impact of his beliefs on the site itself is not apparent, though Dohring has been quoted as saying "Having used his technology in every business activity... Mr. Hubbard's organizational concepts are always with me" (according to the Hubbard College of Administration).

Groups of people believing that Neopets treats users poorly and who are also against the immersive advertising have formed anti-Neopets websites expressing their views. These groups have bought domain names for their movement, talked about their movement on the Neopets forums, and have even reported Neopets for what they believe to be potential copyright violations.

On March 31, 2006, Neopets released their April Fool's joke called NeoCharge, a new system which would keep inflation down. For every page view users were charged up to 12 NP, which accumulated to a point of 10,000 NP. At this point, users would have to pay, or would lose their property and eventually their account. It made certain areas of the site almost implayable, such as the NeoQuest games and NeoMail, because of the constant refreshing needed to use them. Those who saw NeoCharge for what it was began to make it into a game to see what happpend at 10,000 NP, and how high they could get it. Others users felt it was a cruel joke on Neopets part as users trust and believe what they say, and were betrayed at the expense of a good laugh.

Neopets Premium
:Main Article: Neopets Premium

Neopets Premium is an extended version of the site, for which members pay $7.99 a month, or $69.95 a year. There are also different packs that include Premium such as dial-up service. With this Premium membership, external ads are completely erased, and certain "perks" are added, such as bonus Neopoints, rare items, premium users only boards, webmail, more Random Events, and testing unreleased games. Some groups voice the opinion that the Neopets staff members are transferring some free features to Premium.

To go Premium, a player must first be invited by another Premium member. There is then a 15 day trial. There are even prizes (an Avatar, Sidebar, and Trophy) for referring people to Premium who have remained after their trial has expired.

Merchandise
Neopets now produces a range of merchandise, including plushies, stickers, and hand-held video games. The merchandise retails at many mainstream outlets such as Wal-Mart, Target, and Limited Too. There are also exclusively online retailers involved, such as 99dogs.com, which was the first outlet for Neopets merchandise.

In September 2003, Wizards of the Coast released the Neopets Trading Card Game, a collectible card game, based on the online characters and setting. It is distributed by card shops, as well as Wal-Mart and Target. To date, there have been six individual "sets" of cards (a base set and five expansions), with the sixth set recently released. Most of the card releases are associated with "plots," or stories, on the site. This is another controversial marketing move, which has at once managed to endear and estrange players from the site.

In 2004 Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced the upcoming release of Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, available for the PSone game consoles. However, in March 2005 they confirmed that they had already began remaking the game for the PS2.

In March 2005 it was confirmed that the Neopets team had also begun work on a Neopets film (which the creators of the site had kept secret from their own staff until it was confirmed). When informing the users of this, they also implied that there may be more than one Neopets film in the future (although, of course, this will depend entirely on the success of their first film).

Pop culture references
Aside from the fact that Neopets has its own vibrant user culture, there are many references in the site to movies, video games, and more. The List of references in Neopets article contains an extensive list of such references.

Neopets Premium is a feature that was added in 2004. It includes many different features, including the BOSS button, beta testing, a Space Faerie Scratchcard, and more.

Neopets Premium is an extended version of the site, for which members pay $7.99 a month, or $69.95 a year. There are also different packs that include Premium such as dial-up service. With this Premium membership, external ads are completely erased, and certain "perks" are added, such as bonus Neopoints, rare items, NeoBoard available to premium users only, webmail, more Random Events, and testing unreleased games. Some groups voice the opinion that the Neopets staff members are transferring some free features to Premium. Another Charter Board can also be accessed once you have been a Premium user for 3 Months.

To go Premium, a player must first be invited by another Premium member through the Premium referral system or take one of the places that Neopets offers for limited times. There is then a 15 day trial. There are even prizes (an Avatar, Sidebar, and Trophy) for referring people to Premium who have remained after their trial has expired.

Some people complain that this will create a two-tier system...
The Premium referral system is similar to the Neopets referral program and is one of the ways users gain access to Premium. Existing Premium users send out invites, and if the person stays on after the 15 day free trial, the user will be rewarded:

* 3rd referral: Your choice of a Snow, Electric, Starry or Disco Paint Brush
* 4th referral: A Premium-only avatar, listed among a users default avatars and does not count on the High-Score Table. Lasts as long as the user stays Premium.

What?
"The theory that the more times you perform certain actions, such as donating to the Money Tree or taking care of your pets, your chances of receiving beneficial Random Events increases. Karma is mainly theoretical but does exist to some extent in Neopets. For example, if you refuse a Faerie Quest, the chance of you getting another one is decreased. In fact, for 10 minutes after you refuse, it is non-existent. However, that statement is a unique case, as it is directly stated that a limit will be placed. It is currently unknown whether other activities will increase luck."

We just defined karma as doing certain actions to INCREASE the chances of receiving BENEFICIAL events. How does refusing Faerie Quests fit into this definition? At the very least it should be re-worded.

Littlemac: spelling grammar

Introduction
Neopets has always been strict about multiple accounts. However, they've never really given us a definitive answer on what is, and isn't allowed. Hopefully this page will shed some light on this. If you personally have any information, please add it to this page.

Official Neopets' Statements
Your main account must be the only account you use for daily Neopoint-gaining activities such as flash games, Tombola, Coltzan's Shrine, Fruit Machine, Snowager, Kiosk, Mystery Pic etc...

You may have up to 4 other accounts for guilds, galleries, storage, and extra neopets (which we hope are fed on a daily basis!)

If you already have more than 4 accounts, but do not use them to make Neopoints, don't worry thats fine - just please don't create any more.

Thanks for playing Neopets, and we hope you understand that we make these rules to make Neopia a fairer, and a more exciting place for everybody!

Just to re-iterate, creating multiple accounts to gain extra Neopoints with is NOT allowed. It is unfair to people who play by the rules, and heavily scorned upon by the Neopets Team. Please don't do it, and when your accounts are frozen please dont email us asking for them back, because they will never be unfrozen..
Just a quick warning, we are getting VERY strict with multiple accounts. We will freeze anybody who creates multiple accounts in order to gain a financial (neopoint) advantage over others. Basically, if you have a couple of extra accounts to store neopets, or items, or a guild that is fine. However, if you log into multiple accounts on a daily basis and use Coltzan's Shrine, Tombola etc. to get neopoints... then wave bye-bye to ALL your accounts.

You are allowed to have up to 5 accounts if you want to own more than 4 Neopets or run a gallery, guild,<s> or a second shop</s>, (no longer allowed: see below) but freebies that give out prizes like Tombola and Coltzan's Shrine can only be used once per person, regardless of how many accounts you have. So just alternate between accounts each day you use the freebies. You may switch items between accounts once in a while, just do not turn your second account into an account that gains Neopoints for your main account. You may also <s> play games for Neopoints</s> (also no longer allowed), use the Healing Springs (still alowed) and <s> get Omelettes </s> (also no longer allowed!) on the other accounts as long as you keep them in that account. **thanks to vastluvr for this information.

New Rules as of 7th day of Sleeping Y7 7th November 2005
<blockquote> You May Only Have Five Accounts Because Your Pets Need Your Attention. It is important that Neopets users are responsible for their pets and play the game in a fair manner. Therefore, do not create more accounts or Neopets than you can maintain. You are allowed a maximum of five (5) accounts. One of these accounts, your main account, can do everything on Neopets. The other four accounts (except if one is a guild account as explained below) can adopt Neopets and maintain a gallery but cannot have a store, play games or any other activity that earns Neopoints or participate in any voting activities. You may freely transfer items among your accounts but they should be on the same e-mail address as your main account. If you are the head of a guild, you may use one of your five accounts as a guild account and it should be named as such (for example, Abandoned Computer Chips Orphanage guild account). In addition to your main account, a guild account can have a store but cannot earn Neopoints in any manner other than through the store, auctions and trades (and anything that happens on that account could impact your other accounts). If you maintain a guild account, you will be held responsible for that account. You are permitted only one guild account per guild.
</blockquote>
This means that the previous rules permitting more than one shop are no longer valid and that you may only have one shop unless it is a guild account. You also may no longer alternate which account you use for the dailies as you should only have 1 main account and up to 4 spares.

<small> this section added by dasy2k1 13 Dec 2005 </small>

Questions Left Unanswered
Myself, my wife and our daughter all play Neopets and we all have our own account which is each individuals main account. Therefore we each play games do the Dailies and so on. Currently due to some nasty bugs on the net we are down to one computer. So on some days we each may get a "shift" on the computer to deal with our own account. Will this lead to one or all of our accounts being frozen? When they were set up over a year ago we had 3 computers but as stated only one remains alive.

*I have a classmate who plays Neopets, and, because of studying, he cant play it now, and he asked me to make the daylies, Will one of our acoounts be frozen???, because I also use my account for the daylies..., OH!, and I have two little brothers, each one of us has a different account, and they sometimes give me some useful items, because I'm kind with them. The question is: Will one of our account be frozen???
** At one stage this would have been no. However Neopets has suffered a little since it was sold. I would advize emailing the staff and telling them what the situation is that you could be in and asking them thier opinion in advance then if anything happens you can say "but you said". As they say "...if you log into multiple accounts on a daily basis and use the shrine, tombola etc.. to get neopoints... then wave bye-bye to ALL your accounts." --Lord Matt 10:23, 6 Nov 2005 (CST)

This is the current answer reported in the Neopian Times in the editortial on teh 9th Celebrating Y7 (9 december 2005 in the normal callender)

"A few of my friends who are not able to get on Neopets every day have asked me to get on their accounts and get their advent calendar prizes for them. I've been doing it, but I'm terrified that I'll get myself, and all my friends, frozen for "having multiple accounts". Can you assure me that you have a way to know that I'm not on multiple accounts? ~ [removed]
Whoa whoa. Yeah, stop now. PUT THE MOUSE DOWN!

You CANNOT log into another user's account to play Neopets for them, and getting someone their dailies (including Advent) is indeed playing the site. It's not the multiple account thing you have to worry about... you're all cheating and that's definitely not allowed. They're cheating by asking you to play for them and giving you their account information, and you're cheating by playing the site for someone else. Tell your friends to stop being slackers and get their own freebies, and for Fyora's sake, stay out of their accounts so you don't get frozen."

this alsong with old versions of the terms and conditions states that all shared accounts are strictly prohibited and will result in the shared account and all accounts of the holders of the shared account being perminantly frozen! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The owner of Avatar (the Darigan Eyrie) was frozen for "having multiple accounts and encouraging others to do the same." (What the owner of Avatar said TNT told them) They were frozen for having only TWO accounts. This is COMPLETELY unfair.

*It has been my experience that if all the accounts from different family members use the same email addresss they are prone to automatic freezing. Whereas if they use different addresses, it is less likely (still not impossible) that they will be frozen.

* My 3 best friends and I share an account. Will all of our accounts get frozen just because we use dailies on this account and our mains?

* TNT does not allow you to share accounts with friends (or anyone for that matter) for your own good! If there was an argument between the account holders it would be easy enough for one of them to change the accounts email and password and take the credit of BOTH or ALL of your work for themselves. Even if you know you can trust the person it is still against the rules. Your account represents your OWN hard work and effort so for this reason you may NOT ask others to do dailies for you.

The following is a collected list of programs/tools for Neopets which make it easier to navigate the website or help you understand the game better.

Neopets
Neopets Premium
Not a program, but a whole new login and playing experience. Neopets Premium is a paid service provided by Neopets.

Neopets Toolbar
A toolbar Neopets provides to users, offering quicklinks.

Outside Neopets
While there are programs you can use outside of Neopets, it should be noted no user is allowed to use outside coding to play the game for them, or to gain an unfair advantage. Players who do so will either be suspended for a period of time or Frozen.

Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox is a web broswer. It has gained popularity with it's easy to use interface, and more advanced options than other Internet browsers. Extensions, or add on programs, can be added to it to change how Firefox displays web pages. For example, some extensions can block banner ads and pop-ups placed within websites, including Neopets.

ImproveNeo
(( The NeoDex does not endorse the following program, its creators, or what it will allow you to accomplish on Neopets. This is merely here for historical purposes, and nothing more. --Jacob 19:01, 17 Apr 2006 (CDT) ))

ImproveNeo began as a Greasemonkey script being developed by a user within the Neodaq Forum. With the script, users can remove ads, have stocks recommended to them, dynamically look-up Shop Wizard prices, have the script alert them to under-priced items, and delete user's shop descriptions so as to make buying items easier.

The first version of the script, 0.1, was released to the general public on February 19th 2006. Since then, it has been updated many times, with 0.6 being the latest version.

At this point, the legality of the program is up in the air. The creator himself mentioned using the program is risky, as it could get you frozen. (and the TNT knowing about the project would get him in trouble). Until more word is brought forth on how Neopets feels about this, use of the program should be held with caution.

http://www.improveneo.com

The first version of the script, 0.1, was released to the general public on February 19th 2006. Since then, it has been updated many times, with 0.5.1 being the latest version.
Using an outside script to influence your playing of the Neopets site is against the Neopets.com T&C. In particular, inflating stock prices by directing groups of users into buying specific tickers is breaking a particularly golden rule in the Neopets.com T&C.
:Does this project go against Neopets "Rules"? Yes. I've got little doubt about that.

:However, IMO there is a very large difference between rules, and what is morally right. Yes, ImproveNeo probably breaks one or two rules. It does not infringe on the intent of those rules. Do you understand? ImproveNeo does not in ANY way cheat for you, automate tasks for you, or in anyway gives you an un-fair advantage over other players. So, while it may go against the rules, it is not a project that is morally wrong.

:Hence why I requested you not to contact Neopets. Hope that makes sense.
Littlemac 13:59, 16 Apr 2006 (CDT)

----

The PinkPT NeoDex project is perfectly within the T&C of Neopets.com. Neopets.com allows non-profit fansites, and allows images and characters from the Neopets.com site to be used, provided that the disclaimer of the site reads:

<blockquote>"Copyright 2000-2006 Neopets, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Used With Permission"</blockquote>

This project is not against the Neopets T&C. It doesn't so much as brush up against the rules. You, in advertising your script, are not only inviting someone to inform TNT (being as this is a public website), you may also tarnish the respectability of PinkPT.

Using a script to find stocks of a certain price is against the rules, as it is using a machine to play neopets.com for you. Similarly, it will cause people to buy specific stocks as it recomends stocks fulfilling certain propeties over those not fulfilling them, and whether or not number of purchases has an effect on stock price, this has been emphasised many times by TNT that it is against the rules. Having a code that "builds on" neopets.com violates the T&C directly also. From the official neopets.com T&C under Miscellaneous:

<blockquote>You acknowledge and agree that you are not permitted under any circumstances or for any reason to cheat or utilize third-party games or code in order to win at, or gain Neopoints or Items from any Neopets game. You agree not to design, disseminate or use any third party programs designed to change the game play on the site including, but without limitations, programs such as autobuyers, flash game cheats, autofreshers, and snipers.</blockquote>

I emphasise, you are not allowed to use third party programmes designed to change the gameplay of the site. Which is exactly what your programme proposes.

We must be on really different wavelengths here, Macbeth. I never said that PPT went against the T&C of neopets. I apologise if you thought I did, but I certainly didn't intend to.

You mention that finding stocks of a certain price has the machine play neopets for you. I am strongly against that idea. It is not playing Neopets for you. The script does not buy the stocks for you. It merely shows you stocks that you may have interest in buying. No different than me posting on PPT forums which stock I bought for the day.

Secondly, you accuse me of "Tarnishing the respectability of PPT". How so? This is an encyclopedia of all things neopets is it not? Are we going to choose on what to report? Maybe we shouldn't mention scammers or cookie grabbers? In fact, why don't we extend this to the forums. Here on out, nobody can ever mention scammers or cookie grabbers.

Thirdly, to respond to almost everything else you said. I've already acknowledged that this goes against the T&C. I really don't know who you are trying to convince here.
My point, is just because something is legally wrong, doesn't make it morally wrong. Copying and pasting also goes against the T&C, did you know that? My guess is, you will say that TNT is crazy and will continue to do it anyway. Same thing here.
Having something be illegal does not make it wrong, in the moral sense. (EXAMPLE: Slavery??)
Having something legal, does not make it right in the moral sense. (EXAMPLE: Racial slurs)
ImproveNeo, while it goes against the T&C is not wrong, in the moral sense, because it does not give an un-fair advantage to the player. It does not buy items for you, or buy stocks for you. It CANNOT in anyway make money for you. Because of this, I don't feel it is wrong to distribute it.
No need to alert them to it. I've said this before (Not here) but by downloading it, you should know that you are taking the risk of being frozen.
:And you're very right. Only time will tell.

Indeed? Then I apologise for misinterpreting "Does this project go against Neopets 'Rules'? Yes. I've got little doubt about that". What did you in fact mean by it?

TNT have stated many times that it has to be you, the account owner, not a programme, piece of sticky tape, friend, or 'cat' playing neopets through your account. To me, a script that makes neopoints for you would be covered under this (and this script would make neopoints for you, in the same way a financial advisor makes money for their company by advising decisions).
And the law does not quibble over moral wrongs versus legal wrongs. It may not be morally wrong, to you, to switch off the life support of someone whose quality of life has been restricted so much they ask for you aid to die, and yet this is wrong in the eyes of the law and you will still be a criminal for doing this. You may think abortion is morally wrong, but in countries where it is legal women who abort (and indeed their partners who advise them to, if applicable) are not criminals. Please note, I am NOT inviting discussion of these issues given in example.

However, I do, to some extent, see where you are coming from, but ImproveNeo will remain against the T&C and thus should not be listed here in my eyes until we get some word from TNT that it is allowed/is not allowed. I suggest for the time being we agree to differ.

TNT have stated many times that it has to be you, the account owner, not a programme, piece of sticky tape, friend, or 'cat' playing neopets through your account.

Hi Jacob,

I am the lead devleoper of ImproveNeo. If you have any questions regarding the validity of my claims, visit our forum. (I won't link to it. Google it.)

If you register, I am willing to PM you my email and we can discuss things further there. --unsigned by littlemac on 21:11, 15 Apr 2006 --

<blockquote>"ImproveNeo, the greasemonkey script, is a script that, among other things, deletes ads, recommends stocks, and facilitates easier look-up of shop wiz prices. It also makes browsing the site easier in general."</blockquote>

Using an outside script to influence your playing of the Neopets site is against the Neopets.com T&C. In particular, inflating stock prices by directing groups of users into buying specific tickers is breaking a particularly golden rule in the Neopets.com T&C.

Whether or not your facility is 'valid' or not is neither here nor there. It is completely against the Neopets.com T&C as much as autobuyers and programmes interfering with the Flash games. In the new Neopets.com T&C, such breaches can cause a $5,000 (USD) fine to be issued.
