:It's probably not entirely necessary, I think it would work just as well open, I just tend to make nav boxes collapsed by default for some reason, I would have nothing against it being changed. =) Though I do feel having just "Neopia" on the top line makes it look very spacey. :Yes, there certainly has been! There are several captcha options we can look at - [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit ConfirmEdit] and [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ReCAPTCHA ReCAPTCHA] extensions - and certainly will do if this keeps up in the long term. I don't have server access myself, but I've e-mailed Kym about disabling account creations temporarily. I might ask him if I could have server access to /neodex to speed up dealing with this sort of thing in the future, though. --[[User:Macbeth|Macbeth]] 07:37, 29 January 2011 (CST)

The '''Virtupets Space Station''' - later referred to as Virtupets Orbital Space Station #4 - is an [[Wikipedia:Space station|space station]] brought into Neopia [[wikipedia:orbit|orbit]] by [[Dr. Frank Sloth]] during the course of the [[Arrival of Virtupets]] [[plot]], using it as a stronghold and from which he intended to fire a mutation ray in order to [[Morphing Potion#Transmogrification Potion|transfigure]] [[Neopets]] into his slaves.

After Dr. Sloth's plan was thwarted, the Space Station remained in orbit, abandoned. It was re-inhabited by Neopians where it became much like a futuristic arcade. It became a popular tourist destination, despite the re-emergence of one of Dr. Sloth's old projects, [[Neopet Version 2]], which kidnapped four visitors until the machine was deactivated.

The '''Lost Desert''' is an [[wikipedia:Arid|arid]] region in [[Neopia]]'s [[wikipedia:Southern Hemisphere|southern hemisphere]]. It was discovered by the rest of Neopia as part of the [[Brucey B and the Lucky Coin]] [[plot]], when [[Brucey B]] managed to travel south through the [[Haunted Woods]]. The Desert is shared by two kingdoms, the second of which was introduced following the [[Lost Desert Plot]].

For the most part, the Lost Desert has an [[Wikipedia:Ancient Egpyt|Ancient Egyptian]] theme, but also shows [[wikipedia:Arabian Peninsula|Arabic]] and [[wikipedia:Persian Empire|ancient Persian]] stylistic elements.

There are two cities in the current Lost Desert. There is the city of Sakhmet, capital of the most prosperous area of the Desert, and the newly rediscovered city of Qasala, which is in ruins but currently being repopulated. The Sakhmetian Royal Family went through a time of turbulence after the Lost Desert was discovered. Following the poisoning of [[King Coltzan III]] in a move to usurp the throne, and the Royal Family held an investigation in which it drafted in the users to analyse the case, with the promised reward of items from the Royal Treasury (priceless Battle Scarabs). After the case was closed, a shrine was erected in the King's honour, in which was placed his Crown, which was said to be inhabited by the ghost of Coltzan. As the shrine was unveiled, however, it emerged that the cunning [[Malkus Vile]], a [[wikipedia:Organized crime|crime lord]], had had the crown stolen - [[The Hunt for the Crown]] was on. Since the crown was returned, the Ghost of Coltzan blesses Neopets who mourn at his obelisk.

The Royal Family of Sakhmet went under another turbulent time, when the [[Princess Amira]] (who had inherited the throne from Coltzan III) received [[Prince Jazan]] IV of Qasala who demanded her hand in marriage based on some document of betrothment he had gathered from somewhere. He believed that marrying a Sakhmetain Princess would restore his lands and people, so when the Princess refused, he stole the City away with dark magic, where it became plagued by his demons. When he fell in love with [[Nabile]] (who could be seen as a princess of thieves, though her mother was Princess Neera so technically she is a real princess, as a matter of fact, she's Princess Amira's cousin), they married and Jazan restored Sakhmet, but his land did not prosper again and in fact the prophecy he fulfilled brought back to life his wicked, power-mad father [[Razul]] who attacked the Lost Desert until he was stopped.

A once-beautiful city that fell on hard times and is now mostly in ruins after being obliterated 200 years ago by a sandstorm. Amongst the ruined buildings lie caches of histories and magic. One of the more notable buildings is the '''Temple of 1,000 Tombs'''.

This once thriving city had a very well respected Royal Family, until Razul cursed his own people, and his own son, Jazan, and laid down a prophecy that would enable him to live again after his death. Both Razul and Jazan controlled considerable sorcery. Since then, it has been haunted by the [[Spirit of the Ruins]], a Grundo-like spirit.

In addition to the tribes of Coconut People, Mystery Island is also where the [[Kougra]] species originates from. Mystery Island is home to [[The Techo Master]] and [[Ryshu]] of the Training School, as well as the [[Tiki Tack Man]] and [[Island Mystic]]. The inhabitants of the Lost City of Geraptiku, however, have never been discovered.

The island has also become the adopted home of [[Petpet]] refugees that came to the [[Rock Pool]] following the destruction of [[Old Maraqua]], and is one of the destinations that can be chosen to build a [[Neohome]].

Further more, [[Island]] is one is is one of the many [[colour|colours]] that users can paint their [[Neopet|Neopets]] and [[Petpet|Petpets]]. Island pets have tan skin with white markings. They are dressed with an assortment of tropical themed accessories, such as flowers, shell necklaces, and grass skirts. The Island colour for Neopets was released on June 26, 2002, and the Island colour for Petpets was released on October 1, 2003

Maraqua once housed the Underwater [[Kitchen Quest]]s, later relocated to [[Mystery Island]], and was the sole supplier of [[Utility Fish]], which are now all retired and very expensive. [[TNT]] stated once that they originally planned for Utility Fish to be used as [[NeoHome]] utilities. Maraqua also sold Aquatic [[PetPet]]s (most of which were [[Old Neopets|redesigned]] and are being sold on Mystery Island). The Aquatic Foods Shop also disappeared, retiring the shop items, only to be replaced by [[Kelp]] in New Maraqua, with new foods.

After the whirlpool ruined the city, the Ruins began to be populated again, first by a gigantic [[Slug Monster]], then by a [http://www.neopets.com/water/statue.phtml Mysterious Statue] (believed to be of the [[Darkest Faerie]]), then by a Bubbling Pit (listing all the available Maraqua-coloured Neopets), then by an [[Underwater Fishing]] area. The discovery and open trade with New Maraqua has promoted people re-entering the ruins, and it remains to be seen whether more will be made of this area.

After the whirlpool destroyed the original city, [[King Kelpbeard]] set about building a new, more splendid city, with a strong army to protect it from its enemies. However, information of this was learnt by an armada of pirates, who set out to [[Curse of Maraqua|conquer the nation]].

As part of the [[Curse of Maraqua]] plot, Maraqua was rebuilt with the intention of being stronger than its predecessor so as to withstand any future Pirate attacks. New Maraqua has a standing army lead by [[Swordmaster Talek]], something Old Maraqua didn't appear to have. When [[Captain Scarblade]] learned that there were surviving [[Maraquan]]s, he lead another attack (this time with an army of pirates). They were fought off, however, in the plot.

The Curse of Maraqua plot introduced the mineral [[maractite]], capable of travelling effortlessly through water as though it was in air. Information provided in the CoM plot suggests that supplies of maractite are running thin. According to the ''Maractite Axe'' card (of the [[Neopets TCG]]), maractite slowly decays when exposed to air.

Visually, Old Maraqua's structure was very different from New Maraqua's. Old Maraqua was built out of ''transparashield'', and had the look of a futuristic ocean colony. The smooth, bubble-like windows seemed to imply that there was an atmosphere inside the buildings. New Maraqua has a very coral-like appearance, is made out of [[Maractite]], and is open to the oceans.

'''Faerieland''' is the home of the [[faeries]], ruled by [[Fyora]], the Faerie Queen. It formerly floated in a gigantic cloud 10,000 feet above [[Neopia]], where it was free to move around the skies. During the events of [[The Faeries' Ruin]] plot, however, it fell and a crashed east of the [[Haunted Woods]], and is currently under repair.

When Faerieland was first released, users could only enter if they had a special Faerie Totem [[item]]. This requirement was quickly dropped however, and today users do not need a totem to enter Faerieland.

Faerieland was the location of the second act of the video game, and the climax of acts three and four. [[The Darkest Faerie]] had planned to crash Faerieland into [[Meridell]] so as to destroy both kingdoms, but her scheme was foiled by [[Roberta]] and [[Tormund]]. After she was turned back to stone, the Darkest Faerie was kept in Faerieland.

===The Faeries' Ruin===

After the faeries had been turned to stone, most of the activities in Faerieland became unavailable as their operators had turned to stone. Faerieland also began to descend, beginning on 10 November 2010. As [[Xandra]]'s ritual continued - ostensibly an attempt to save the city, but in reality intended to accelerate its crash - it continued to fall until it had crashed by 24 November.

Xandra revealed that the destruction of Faerieland had been symbolic of her mission to remove the faeries from Neopia, who she saw as "winged tyrants" because they rarely intervened in Neopet affairs despite their power to do so.

When the curse was broken on 23 December, the activities involving faeries opened up again - except for [[Faerie Quests]] which would not return until 7 February. The map was also redesigned to show the city grounded.

When it was first released on August 11, 2004, users could only access Brightvale by clicking on a special signpost in [[Meridell]]. However, on June 24, 2006, Brightvale became directly accessible from the main map of [[Neopia]].

Unlike the neighbouring kingdom of [[Meridell]], Brightvale is best known for its well-educated populace. The kingdom is ruled by [[King Hagan]], who is brother to [[Meridell]]'s ungainly [[King Skarl]]. King Hagan feels embarrassment over his family ties and therefore does not have a close relationship with Skarl.

Although close to Meridell, the two kingdoms have very little else in common. The citizens of Brightvale celebrate knowledge and learning above all else, treasuring their fine literature and history. From the outside, many other Neopians seem to look down upon the residents of Brightvale, thinking them snobbish, though Brightvalers appear to neither notice nor care.

Before this time, it was isolated from the rest of the planet by a bubble of slow time.

The city operated the [[Altador Cup]] annually before its disappearance, and has resumed this since 2006. It was accessed before the other side of Neopia was charted by a magical portal in [[Fyora]]'s chambers in [[Faerie City]], discovered by "two brave Neopets" - believed to be [[Tormund]] and [[Roberta]].

Much of the history of Altador is shrouded in mystery, while pieces of it have been revealed in The Darkest Faerie video game and in the [[Altador Plot]].

Altador was originally a peaceful and prosperous land, ruled by 12 protectors, one of which was a [[Dark Faerie]], now only known as [[The Darkest Faerie]]. As the other leaders aged, The Darkest Faerie believed she should be the sole ruler of Altador because of her immortality, and began plotting against the other protectors to take over. [[Jerdana]], the one of the 12, banished the Faerie from Altador when she learned of her plot. Outraged at her banishment, she planned against Altador from afar, and returned wreaking havoc on the city. To protect the city, Jerdana placed it within a spell of slow time. [[Fyora]] then used ''Jerdana's Orb'' to trap The Darkest Faerie in stone, and where she fell to the bottom of the [[Maraqua]]n ocean.

1000 years passed for the rest of the world, while little to no time passed in Altador, and The Darkest Faerie eventually broke free, forcing the remaining 11 (who blended into the world of Neopia) into action to find two heroes to fight against her. [[Tormund]] and [[Roberta]] were separately selected, and eventually came to Altador to discover a way to stop The Darkest Faerie and release Altador from the time spell, both of which were accomplished.

Altador is a city south of [[Shenkuu]] and west of [[Haunted Woods]] designed in the theme of ancient Greece and Rome.
